Don't really know what to make of it.
Personally not a fan of him, and I'm all honestly I don't see the Spurs going for that kind of player "character wise", yet there had been some rumble before, around June 2018, that the Spurs were looking to trade for him.

We don’t need Porzingis since we have Davis MVBertan

The Spurs could offer the Knicks Gasol . . .

I'm in the NY market and I can't stand Porzingis, he's Bargnani soft and I hope the Spurs stay far away from his entitled, injured, over-hyped behind.

Gasol isn't going anywhere and everyone else on the roster besides the last 3 rosters spots are overachieving and all on good cheap contracts, they all found their confidence playing with each other and they all have that counted out chip on their shoulders, the last thing they need is to add some entitled brat who thinks he is gods gift to a basketball court, skipping exit interviews and what not...big time no from me

Only concern but its a big one, its his injury, other than that of course we should be interested in KP.

I'd rather they just go after Kawhi tbh, imo, fwiw.

I assumed this at the beginning of the season. Here's why:

1. Pop loves Euro-bigs

2. Coming off an ACL tear he should be relatively cheap (in relation to his on court value)

3. Fits the DJ/Lonnie/White timeline of the future core

4. Bertans team mate at the national team

5. Is apparently critical towards the Knicks franchise

the only issue I would see is, how do you find minutes for him and LaMarcus? We'd probably have to move him, but maybe not. It's definitely not a bad idea to go after him though, it's already a miracle if any All-Star caliber players want to sign here to begin with

Why does everyone think the Spurs are trading for him? I thought O’Conner believes the Spurs are going after him as a restricted free agent this summer?

free agent signing. I can only see this happening if he gets lowball offers. He's not worth paying 30 million per year

Yea but can he play SF?
It's actually pretty funny cause he's 7'3,but yes,in Europe he was playing SF and PF.
Anyways, this isn't as a non story as it may look like cause if you've seen the man play, especially in his NT,he obviously values winning more than anything..
He's suffered through,what,3 years with the Knicks,tanking seasons,Phil Jackson's incompetence,Melo Drama,an ACL..
The Bertans connection is there, there has been interest in the past,i wouldn't be surpriced if the real story was "..and Porzingis is also interested in joining the Spurs"

I don't see it either. I just don't see the path to get him. He's going to get a max offer that the Knicks will match.

I doubt it. Like I'm sure they'd feel happy to have him, but they have made no indications what they planned on making any free-agent run. Just smells like bullshit.

Seriously though, they won’t trade him. I’d be down depending on who had to be given up. He can be a complete player.

Meh... on this side of the coin, PATFO doing their due diligence, like other organizations, to contact him this summer, just as they may with No. 2, & perhaps other big name free agents. Bertans can be the bait to lure him here, since, of coarse, they are from the same country, & played together on the Latvian National team. But on the flipside of the coin, this could be a possible move to sure-up the future for the organization. I'm sure there's question about his injury, but remember, Bertans also suffered simular injuries, & has proven to be a productive player. Now with Porzingis being a much bigger person, could his injury come into play as an issue throughout his career? But I can see NY throw BIG $$$ at him, & he ends up staying... unless The Unicorn isn't happy there & decides to go elsewhere. This will be a popcorn moment to see how this will play out this summer, but won't be holding my breath though. GSG!!!

He's a restricted free agent, the Knicks are matching any kind of offer he's getting. This isn't even news.

Maybe it IS still cool to mention the Spurs in connection with any free agent discussion. Heck, we were supposedly on Lebron's short list by most accounts.

Somebody needs to hike up his price then. Just shoot him a contract for 30 mil. Because they’re gonna try to get Durant and build the next superteam. I actually don’t hate the Knicks, unlike most of my friends. But I’d rather they get good the right way instead of just getting free agents

Ringer is a poor source, their “rumors” aren’t based from things they hear from the spurs organization, they’re from other GMs or fans or their own thinking

Would be nice, but not happening unless Porzingus forces his way here and even then I feel like its a stretch.

Yeah, I think these writers and sports news publishers use the Spurs name, for instance, as click bait to get the fans to read and then stir up stuff, in my opinion.

Forbes and Gasol plus a few second rounders for him. Gasol is an attractive expiring contract while Forbes has quickly established himself as a Steph Currys heir. It might be too much for us to give up but I'm willing to gamble. Do it RC

He's the only Knick draftee in years that has any superstar potential which generates fan support and excitement. They have to keep him if possible. Unless King Lebron asks him to come to LA to match up with Kwahi.

he's very obviously one of the 3 best talents in the nba, but he's getting maxed 100% so moot point.

RC_Drunkford
01-08-2019, 08:17 PM
I think it's a huge risk to sign him to a max for 4-5 years. If he stays getting injured that basically takes away your chances of winning for half a decade

Have you run through 1000 simulations yet? That's what all competent GMs do before making big trades.

Porzingis doesn't want to be with the Knicks, If we seriously go after him there is a good chance that he forces his way out and he is friends with one of my own who will also be a free agent a couple of years after this summer and an unrestricted one and Bud who is his coach right now might be Pop's succesor, just saying. Pure speculation though.

What surprises me is last rumors about Spurs were PF/C...First rumor was about Vucevic and now Porzingings. No wings/power forwards. Weird.

Well one thing, people may disagree but just because he’s a restricted free agent doesn’t mean to much. In todays game if a star player wants out from his team then he’ll find a way out
