View Full Version : Should Tony Parker really start for the Spurs?

Even though I'm a HUGE TP fan, do you guys think he deserves to start for the spurs? I mean, I honestly feel that NVE or Finley would be better at starting up as guard.... Parker's pretty good, but not always. He isn't a reliable player yet, he has his times when he's really good but then he also has lots of times where he really sucks...
What do you guys think?

Yes, TP should start. He needs that confidence, and NVE has the joints of an 85 year old and will not hold up to the demands of starting. And Finley would not play point, and has the same joint issues.

The idea of NVE is a clutch players in clutch situations, a vet who can take over when needed, but otherwise sits and rests for those moments, a la Steve Kerr or Robert Horry. You don't want to run them ragged in the regular season.

Futhermore, Tony is a great pg who just needs work, which he won't get on the bench.

Tony averaged 16.5 and 6 last year, while shooting 48% from the floor and playing good D. Yes, he has some off nights. But try to name a point guard in the league that doesn't. I watch enough of the other teams in the league to know that Kidd, Marbury, AMiller, and just about everyone else in the NBA has similar ups and downs to Tony. I've seen the seasoned vets have 0-for turnover filled nights themselves.

No it should go in classics. To embarass said person later in season.

Like the who in NBA smokes bud string.

I don't think so. Beno and NVE could easily start as PG on certain teams. Does he deserve to start, of course but there are other players on this team that certainly have the talent to start...

I think it's because there are about 20 some teams in the NBA that would trade to have TP be their starting PG in a hearbeat. Plus, I highly doubt Pop would start NVE/Beno over Parker.

Parker deserves the start for now. He knows the system much better. But it's going to be interesting to see how long of a leash Pop puts him on now that we have Van Exel. I'm guessing that it will be a very short one. I also wouldn't be suprised if VE is getting most of the crunch-time minutes come playoff time.

Tony is a must start for the Spurs.
He is the key to their success through the highs and lows of his game.
This team's chemistry is what scares the other GM's in the league and makes the Spurs such a major threat to repeat their championship season of last year.

:lol The only true PGs we have are Beno, Tp and Vanx. Out of those, Tp is the obvious choice. Finley is not a PG.

I'm sure we'll see Manu as PG, and Finley in on important 4th quarters when Tp is not showing.

Why should this even be a question for this forum?
