It's a sweep that doesn't feel like a sweep.

Props to Backe for the Astros' best start of the series.

Yeah because the Stros should have won almost all of the games but they can't fucking hit in the clutch and Lidge fucked up too much.

I dunno about Jermaine Dye being the winner. I think the pitchers should be the MVPs.

The MVP of that series was tough to give out.

Dye won it mainly on his RBI tonight and him hitting 438

Great year for the Astros. It sucks to end on a somewhat sour note, but they still made the Series. Let's all remember that as we read stories about how they "choked" and whatnot by people who like to make sports a forum for manhood analysis.

This was just the White Sox' year to win it. Congrats to them. I hope to see the familiar faces back on the Astros next year for another run, but we'll see. On to basketball...

What clutch hitters are realistically available? That's a good place to start.

Lidge is still one of the greatest closers in the league, but hes been overworked the past 2 years. This just goes to show why Mariano Rivera is THE greatest of all time

I agree Ice, Lidge is great, I just think hes been overused. TOo many 2 inning games this year.

The Astros had several opportunites to put runs on the board during game 3's extra innings and during game 4. How many times were the bases loaded and the batter struck out? Come on...offense people. I believe a total of 18 runners were stranded on bases for the entire series. :depressed

And yes...Mariano Rivera IS one of THE greatest closers of all time.

dye was a brave and when he left their clutch hitting left to

the manager was a fucking idiot to pitch to dye. He should have walked him. HE WAS ON FIRE LAST NIGHT. I was watching the game and BEFORE he got the rbi I said you walk his ass. The manager FUCKED houston last night

There's no way people can say the Astros "choked." They had problems with hitting all year long.

A big chunk of these baserunners they stranded got on base with walks and HBP and advanced into scoring position on sacrifice plays.

But this was one of the worst offensive teams in baseball. That they won the pennant anyway, even after starting 15-30, is impressive enough. They ran into a White Sox team that demolished all three opponents in the playoffs. Chicago only allowed 34 runs in the entire postseason in 12 games.

The Astros offense overachieved in the first two rounds of the Playoffs, IMO. As I said befoire the World Series started, I was amazed that they were able to get as far as they did without relying completely on pitching. They just regressed back to the norm at the wrong times (and overall, their offense wasn't bad in the WS, it was just extremely unreliable at crucial points of the game.)
