One of our great stories is black. The slave trade which gave us HBCU schools, them blues, jazz, Motown, rap, hip hop, funk, R&B, soul,reggae EBONY, BET.

I have a small library on the black in America, all the classics are there by all the great black authors, but nothing compares to Julius Lesters "To Be A Slave" he has found letters written by the slaves (yes many could write) it will yank your heart out, those poor poor people. The first great black athletes here in America were jockies, with Isaac Murphy being Da Man, jockies and plantation fighters, Tom Molineaux the most famous of those. He actually gained his freedom and fought in Europe for the World Title.

When it comes to recorded music you will start in the 20's with blues and jazz, names like Bessie Smith, Papa Charley Jackson, Louis Armstrong, Ma Rainey, Blind Lemon Jefferson.

Obviously if blacks had played pro football from day one everything would have been totally different. And guys like Big Ben Stevenson who played eight seasons at Tuskeggee would be right there with Marion Motley.

Imagine if the blacks had never left Africa, think about that. No LeBron, no Muhammad Ali, no rap, no Bloods vs Crips, no Ray Charles, no Miles Davis or Jim Brown.

I once said.......slavery was a blessing in disquise.....and I think it really was. YES YES YES...it was terrible, horrendous it's self but where would Samuel L.Jackson, Wesley Snipes, Nina Simone, The Temptations be stuck in Ghana, Namibia, Ivory Coast, Nigeria?

Women like Ma Rainey, Bessie Smith, Clara Smith, Alberta Hunter were the first to record (early 20') what would be called..."blues". But, they recorded with jazz bands so...hmmm? That "country" blues, had a few men record a few records but the first legit "STAR" was Texan Blind Lemon Jefferson who first recorded in 1925.
