View Full Version : The Kawhi/DeMar trade is one of the most lopsided trades of the decade

I could understand if the Raptors played hardball and put a red line at Anunoby or Siakam. Fine...Spurs were in a position of weakness. Any trade partner would have all the leverage with the clusterfuck conditions that Kawhi's group laid out there. But to also include Danny Green and not take back any wing players...even scrubs like CJ Miles. It's beyond stupid. And they threw in $5 million on top of all that. If you're going to lose Kawhi, use it as a chance to salary dump Mills or Gasol at least.
Mostly right:
This automatically rules out the Tobias Harris + picks Clippers deal, since he was just under 19 ppg last season. Would have been much better for the Spurs but they reallly wanted that 20 ppg scorer. SA made a be-mediocre-now move instead of trading for a package of young players or draft picks. As a fan it's disappointing to see Pop put his own interests(not retiring on a lotto team) ahead of the team's.
Toronto wasn't taking Mills or Gasol.
I really wonder what if anything the clippers really offered. Especially they knew he want's to be in SoCal and will be FA in a year. If they really offered Tobias and their two picks- on first glance that seems a better deal- but odds are you will loose Tobias next year and so far neither of the picks is a home run. In retrospect- I'd probably go far the Clipps deal if it was offered. However it was far from great. I guess the Spurs got more than OKC got for Durant....

Like I said before I don’t buy into your BS. You are a troll and have zero credibility with me.
I don't care, just know that you're completely wrong and absolutely clueless when it comes to how Raptor fans will feel if Kawhi leaves.
Honestly I don't consider this a trade. This was a farm team losing talent to a major team. It's just part of the process. We laughed at the grizzlies losing Gasol , now we're the grizzlies (we even kept Pau lol). This happens in lots of sports. Soccer mainly. But baseball is full of cheap ass teams letting talent walk away.
20 years of Duncan and pop hasn't really bought the Spurs any lastingd goodwill in the league. We're one of the many. .

this move was genius, not just for getting Kawhi, but also for salary dumping DeRozan without having to deal with the stupidity of homer fans..
In fairness, there WAS a lot of stupidity with homer fans, fueled by the poorly informed media who was pushing whatever was fed to them by Demar himself and others with an agenda (Sharpe, Carter, Haynes, Bayless). In hindsight, almost all of it was hot air.
You're totally right though, that trading DD for a star instead of the usual salary dump made it a lot easier. Masai would have taken way too much heat for simply trading Demar for a normal package ond moving on. There was people that wanted him to play his whole career here (which is a nice sentiment), without thinking what that really meant. It would have been seeing the money of his existing contract through and then the expectation of another max tier extension. Masai knew what Demar was and had to have been overjoyed at the chance to get Kawhi at a severely depressed value due to the situation.
This was Karma paying Toronto back for losing Vince Carter in much the same way.
And to those like daslicer and Trainwreck trying to speak for how Toronto fans will react... get a grip. You're trying to project your own hostility into the reaction of a completely different fanbase and looking like clowns in doing so. Of course some fans will be unhappy and a large number of them hope and want Kawho to stay, but your claim that they will turn on him, hate him, boo him, etc... is way off base. You really just don't know the Toronto fanbase - we're not as short sighted and petty as you two.

:lol Actually you do care since you originally responded to me in defense of raptor fans but then again I'm not surprised since you are not a real spur fan. Anyways realgm is the gauge I used when it comes to Raptor fans since they are one of the largest fan bases over there.

:lol you guys were pretty petty when Vince bailed on your squad back in the day. Also Karma doesn't exist. If it did then the Hornets and Magic would have been largely compensated by now for losing Kobe Bryant and Shaq to the Lakers.

kobe wouldn't have been that great in Charlotte. Let's not forget he averaged only 7 in his first season and would have been playing behind Glen Riice and Curry in Charlotte. They simply wouldn't have had the team that he could grow into the player he became in LA. I mean, we saw what Kobe did for 3 years after Shaq was traded until Gasol(another big man in his prime at the time) was dropped in his lap.

My point was Karma doesn't exist. Anyways how do you explain Orlando not ever getting over losing Shaq? They have never come close in getting a player of Shaq's talent.

I said I could see it happening if he gets close and then bails, if, the good Lord willing he goes out this round it's same old shit, and he leaves, and Toronto goes back to being ass. I'm sure the fans cheer him next year. Your fanbase has never been to the Finals if they get there, lose and just accept mediocrity afterwards then I just expected more from them. Oh and yes i'm a very petty person for example, first I wanted Kawhi to stay so he'd be stuck in Frozen Tundra for 5 years, but then your fanbase talked so much shit about the Spurs, like it was their fault, because that's what they have do to convince themselves, because they need him to be the victim so he stays. That I can't wait to see him gone to temperate conditions, enjoy overpaying Danny Green.

Excellent post and I feel the same way about raptor fans. I hated them way before the #2 trade. They are by far the most insufferable fans on Realgm. Even worse than Warrior and Laker fans. The trade just increased my hatred by 100X for them.

Orlando fucked themselves and then fed bullshit to the media to disguise the fact that it was all their fault. Sound familiar?
