View Full Version : 40yd vs 100m

There are five phases of the 100m

reaction to the gun
accelleration
hit topend/max velocity
maintain/sustain the highest % of that TE/MV as possible (speed endurance or SE the key here, over distance training a must)
decelleration

The 40 is just get out and acceleration, nobody hits TE/MV in 40yds

A fast football player like a Joey Galloway, Kyler Murray, can hang with world class sprinter in a 40yds, both are running around 4.2ish. The 40 simply too short for legit sprint talent to start to surface.

Football players don't train for...speed endurance, while all world class sprinters must, their game is that 4th/5th phase, that ability to sustain/maintain SE/MV and decellerate slowly, the longer at TE/MV the better.

Usain Bolt was unique, he didn't hit his TE/MV as soon as everybody else (60ish) so he had a lesser time in that decelleration phase, far more time in his TE/MV phase.

Soon we'll be seeing all those combine 40's, while nobody there will be on a world class sprinter level, all the 4.3 guys could hang out of the blocks and up into 45ish of a 100m before...............see ya.

Christian Coleman did play HS football, but track was his thing. He is the current world record holder in the 60m at 6.34, which is sizzlin'. He is the current fastest man in the world and has beaten Bolt (latter stage of career, no in his prime) his 9.78 100m puts him in with the fastest of all time.

So, he was asked just what could he run the 40 in, this was after John Ross and his 4.22 (still don't buy it he did nothing that warrants that)

This is what went down.

Trivia. No googling. Which MLB team hired which world record holding sprinter as a designated pinch runner?

I’ll wait for our resident track expert, SpursforSix (https://www.spurstalk.com/forums/member.php?u=49684), to weigh in on this.

SFS knows absolutely nothing about track. He can't talk anything having to do with it.

I have asked the guy 100 questions he has answered...0.

Just more silliness.

Not being a baseball fan I don't remember the team.

Herb Washington was histories first 5.8 60 man,(erased about 20 5.9 WR holders, Bob Hayes one of them) his start was the best we;d ever seen. He totally exploded from the blocks.

But.,....he lacked that SE I talked about, he couldn't sustain/maintain his TE/MV. He was...ok....in the 100m but nothing like he was in the 60.

I saw him in Fresno, that night Steve Williams blew by him and Jamaican great Don Quarrie to tie the 9.1 WR,

Yep. Team was the Oakland A's. He was also a rather terrible pinch runner. Couldn't get the timing right to steal bases.

He was too skinny for football, the Colts did think about it.

While not into baseball I do know the Cool Papa Bell story, he was so fast he once hit a grounder between first and second, while rounding first for second he had to jump over the ball. Cat was fast,

TCU has had 8 sprinters among the alum that have ran the 100m in under 10.00.

In the entire history of the Big10 conference no sprinter from all those schools has ever ran a legal sub 10.00. This is hard to believe.

Wiki

A track phenom from an early age, Love posted a remarkable 2009 Track & Field season which culminated at the 2009 USATF National Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships. Love set national record-breaking times of 11.64 in the 100m, 23.37 in the 200m and 50.75 in the 400m dash. It was the first time a boy from the midget age group (11–12 years old) has set three national records in one year. Love was named USA Track & Field (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USA_Track_%26_Field) Youth Athlete of the Year 2009.[1] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bryce_Love#cite_note-USATF-1)
Two years later, Love set new records in the 13–14 yrs group at a meet in Hoschton, Georgia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hoschton,_Georgia). He ran 10.73 in the 100 and 21.83 in the 200 on consecutive days.

Hi hon. Please don’t use that word. I’ve already talked to your sister about it. What grownups do is called coitus.
And I love your dad. I really do. But sometime grownups grow apart. And having big black cock once in a while gives me pleasure.

And if you want me to do your laundry, please wash out your socks before you throw them in the bin. I don’t like handling your crusted ejaculate.

Also, there’s cookies in the pantry. Oreos!
