View Full Version : ***Official 2019 NFL DRAFT Thread***

spurraider21

Begins Thursday April 25.

There's already a devoted offseason thread, but figured that should be limited to coaching stuff and free agency.

imo the top 3 players in the draft are Nick Bosa, Quinnen Williams, and Josh Allen. Raiders pick at #4, so just hope one of them slides.

Josh Allen gonna be a Niner imo.

Probably worst year for QBs since 2013. Maybe the rest of the draft falls that way, too? Everyone except the Eagles (and possibly Steelers, but they got zero net return for their prize that draft) had a lousy draft haul that year.

Darrell Henderson a RB just ran a 4.36 40, that is cooking for RB's. His stock just went up.

Most in that 4.45-4.60 range.

Josh Rosen trade rumors seem legit and reports coming out that cards will absolutely draft Kyler Murray. Great news for everybody near the top of the draft. Studs will fall

Yep, and Dwayne Haskins is the same exact player, at best. Somewhere between him and EJ Manuel.

Kyler Murray is that X-factor if you're looking for a Vick type QB; but he'll be long gone before Tampa? I'm not sure he'll be great or not but he does have some of that Vick/Russell Wilson game in him.

Otherwise, 2020 has a much better and better well rounded QB class, from Herbert to Tagovailoa.

if rosen is on the block and the jags are to sign foles. i would like the jags to trade a 4th or lower for rosen lol

Why do you want to make a premium pick QB from last year (one with an ego at that) a backup? Also, what makes you think Zona would trade last year's 9th overall (that they traded UP for) for a 4th or lower?

doesnt seem like rosen is going to get a first round pick... if thats the case the pats should definitely target him with a 2nd and a late, or something

well, he is an accurate pocket passer statue type of QB like Brady... Cowboys have one of those in Mike White, albeit lower rent... those guys need perfect coaching and the right Oline to succeed though. But Rosen (and White) both need to fix the sack fumbling issue, if you're going to be a non-mobile pocket passer you need to be able to make the subtle squirm moves in the pocket and be able to throw it from different angles to get the ball off.

Yep.

Rosen probably needs 1-2 years on the bench unlearning all of the bad habits he picked up after one year in a completely dysfunctional situation, but he definitely has potential. Of the Cardinals games I saw he was capable of making throws into really tight windows when he wasn’t getting sacked 2 seconds after the snap.

rosen doesnt look ready tbh and it would help his development to sit for a year or two assuming we get foles for a 2-3 year deal. they would trade him because they literally fired everyone and the new management seems to want to start over with kyler (if the rumors are true). but honestly id trade the jags 2nd round pick but nothing higher.

He needs to be like Brady and compensate for his lack of physical athleticism/mobility by making those subtle shifts in the pocket and pre-snap pass pro audibles like Brady does. Sacks aren't just the fault of the OL, but also the QB. Brady has never had a top 5 ranked OL but he's always near the lowest in the NFL in sacks taken.

Yeah any offensive system requiring Rosen as a rookie or 2nd year QB to be able to make the same pre snap reads that Brady makes is retarded.

It falls more on coaching than it does Rosen, but either way, the Cardinals o-line is just really fucking shitty. When your left tackle whifs on a block and gives the QB less than 2 seconds to throw, it's not a coaching or pre-snap audible problem.

Brady also plays in an offense where he doesn't have to hold the ball very long vs. Rosen who was constantly facing 3rd and 10+ in situations where he would need to have 3-4 seconds of clean pocket time for a play to develop.

if Q and Bosa are gone, i'm good with taking Allen, trading back, and maybe reaching a bit for Ed Oliver. Devin White is a stud but they'd get much better value in a trade back than selecting him at 4.

picking anybody else would be a dud. picking haskins (or another qb besides kyler) would be disastrous.

the back end of the first really depends on the board. if sweat/ferrell/gary are there i think you have to take one. i also like the corners. if they take a RB and WR/TE it would be a pretty poor choice of players from a value perspective. its much more important to hit at DE and CB than RB or WR, and its not like we have some absurd glaring need at those positions to justify it. TE maybe, but i'd rather just take one later. luke wilson is a competent receiving TE on our roster

Pretty much agree with most except reaching for Oliver at 4 would almost be as bad as Haskins at that spot IMO. I'd be thrilled with Allen at 4. I like White a lot but I'd prefer trading with Snyder and getting #15 plus another future 1st back tbh....

Josh Jacobs or Noah Fant with the late 1sts would also be really bad IMO, I'd much rather go secondary with one of those picks and another edge rusher with the other pick like you said....

raiders beat writers have been very lukewarm on allen... they dont think gruden/mayock love him

i really dont like the idea of taking jacobs. i'm ok with using one of those picks on a TE or WR... whether it be Fant or Marquise Brown. but if they use both of those on offense i'd be pissed. #35 should be defense too. chase winovich would be pretty good there. i also like jaylon ferguson

the bills/jets supposedly have a deal in place for the bills to move up to #3 to take Quinnen Williams. odd given that they're in the same division, but the reporters seem confident nonetheless. jets want to move back and take oliver

:lol instant reaction to word that bills want to move up for williams. jets are managing to pull off a bidding war. kudos to them if this is all true.

its unlikely a fourth will get it done tbh... i wouldn't want to move up unless we're getting bosa. at this point best move is to find a team that wants a qb and move down

Jets are gonna take this to the last second as they field trade calls... I'm watching on a stream delay. still hoping we can take Q at 4, or trade down otherwise. if Q is off the board, raiders writers think Mayock/Gruden are taking Oliver. we can trade down a few picks (giants?) and still get him there

josh allen falls to jags?

spurraider21
04-25-2019, 07:52 PM
i mean, i like ferrell...

clelin ferrell is one of the more underrated edge players in the draft. i'd take him over gary 10/10. he does everything well. he can get around the edge, has a lot of counters, and a go-to inside swim move... basically the one reggie white made famous with the big club. he plays the run pretty well too. he has frank clark written all over him and has the frame to bulk up even more. he's not quite as lengthy, but he has some julius peppers to him too. i dont see why he's getting mocked outside the top 15 (some mocks have him falling to the raiders at #24). he's not a combine warrior, but i think he's a safe pick.

if i'm ranking edge players... i'm going Nick Bosa, Josh Allen (i've shared my thoughts on him, i think he's very good but not a 4-3 DE), Montez Sweat, Clelin Ferrell, Brian Burns, Jaylon Ferguson, Zach Allen all above Rashan Gary, but gary looks like he's going to be a top 10 pick.

but they could have easily traded back 10 spots and taken him. i mean even if you aren't getting full value on a trade back, any extra picks would be nice if you're willing to take him at 4 anyway. truly puzzling...

spurraider21

My Niners had the very first black 1000 yard rusher in NFL history in Joe "The Jet" Perry. He was also the first RB to have consecutive 1000 yard seasons.

In their history (1946-2019) they have had..one...stud white RB in Hugh "King" McElhenny. Yep, like Perry he's a HOFer.

The more white players a team has the slower they are when it comes to team speed, which is not good.

Kyler Murray needs to give Russell Wilson a call thanking him for being the reason he is getting a shot.

Dwayne Haskins will be the best of this weak QB class. Have doubts about Murray do think he's simply not smart enought for the pro game. He scored the lowest on that Wonderlic Test at 20. Yes I know Marino 16, but do believe that was a.....fuck this stupid shit on his behalf, knowing he was in without that test.

Don't see Jacobs being the answer for the Raiders when it comes to RB. He simply isn't all that.

The Pats just keep amazing me, they have their next Stanley Morgan now, easy to see why they rule the NFL.

Round two will be the round that really seperates the have/have nots in this draft.

I don't get the logic of going with these undersized "athletic" QBs? Their overall success rate is poor compared to 6'3"+ pocket passers. Russell Wilson's SB win was more a result of his defense than any ensuing paradigm shift. Kyler Murray will bust and then try a Tebow. Book it. Looks like the Raiders drafted like ass, too. No surprise.

opportunity cost. It is easier to draft a new qb every 3 years tha to attempt to build an offensive line that would protect such a a player after he gets the big bucks. While they are cheap, the team tends to do well since they got all that cap to spare, meaning GMs and coaches get to look good since they improved the overall result without a top notch qb. Needless to say, as a pats fan I love it.

Meh draft so far for Houston. All the picks feel like projects in some way. Tytus Howard has a chance to be elite, but it will take some time and Watson needs blockers now. Lonnie Johnson is interesting. Big, physical press corner that can match up well with big receivers.

My favorite pick so far is TE Kahale Warring. He hasn't played a lot of football but he's a ridiculous athlete for 6'5 250. Played six different sports before he got around to football and what limited tape there is on him suggests he has a pretty good feel for the game and the position. Some Travis Kelce comparisons getting tossed around, but I'm not gonna be that guy. We will see how he translates to the pros but I like him a lot...especially since Ryan Griffin got arrested for public intoxication last night and has likely played his last snap in Houston.

He’s a very good cover corner with very good speed. However not physical as a tackler and I wonder how much desire he has as a player. Skipped the bowl game, didn’t meet with any teams. But the talent is there.

I have no idea what Lynch is doing with the draft this year. Besides Bosa (who is going to be awesome), I'm not sure any of the picks made sense. I get that we need a receiver for Jimmy, but this was a weak weak draft of receivers this year, yet we still chose 2 of them with our 2nd and 3rd round picks. Then we got a punter with the 4th pick (and even tho he's the best in the nation) why use a 4th on a punter? Then they drafted a TE? just a strange draft man.

murphy at the top of round 2 is great (dont care for the isabella pick from the rosen trade)... zach allen at the top of round 3 is great, and then hakeem butler at round 4 might be among the bigger steals. deionte thompson at 5 too.

but this draft will always be weighed by murray vs rosen no matter how well or poorly the other picks do

Harry should at least be able to provide what LaFell did in 2014 but probably agreed not a pro bowler. They clearly see something special though because other teams wanted Harry and they could have easily traded down to get more picks which Belichick loves to do.

I like the offensive line picks a lot. They needed a swing tackle to develop in case Wynn doesn’t work or even if he does when Cannon misses 4-6 games with an injury and they have a replacement lined up when Thuney gets a huge deal from Detroit or Miami next year.

Drafting another running back hopefully means Burkhead doesn’t get any more carries either.

It sucks they didn’t get a tight end but the value was never there, all of the good tight ends were reached on too early.

I’ve never seen a team mishandle a QB picked in the top 10 as much as how they mishandled Rosen. They rushed Rosen into the field behind a disaster of an offensive line to run an offense with horrible coaching then they sell low on him after one year of shitty play from him that was caused by their incompetence more than by Rosen himself.

spurraider21

i'm lukewarm on the raiders draft...

i like ferrell a lot as a player (wrote about him fairly extensively pre-draft)... but the value at 4 just wasn't there. even if they didnt get any good trade back deals, still better to take a mediocre one if you're getting ferrell anyway. they botched it, but wound up with a pretty high floor guy who can play the run and pass and has multiple pass rush moves

josh jacobs pick was disappointing. dont like taking RB's in the first unless they're unique talents like barkley/peterson. but he should still easily wind up with 1300+ yards this year, since he's also a great receiver

after that i actually liked the picks we made, but those don't weigh as much as the earlier picks.

abram at safety at the end of the first was nice. karl joseph is on the last year of his deal, joyner is guaranteed only for 2 years. he's a legit strong safety.

trayvon mullen at CB in round 2 was a strong pick. would have preferred greedy but he still projects as a starter, especially on nickel downs.

maxx crosby represents good value in the 4th and gives us another rotational DE. we needed multiple, we got 2.

then took another big/fast corner, a tight end with legit starting potential. renfrow is a slot receiver, which we are pretty thin at (ryan grant). dont care for the last pick, he's probably a practice squad guy

Overall i give it a B-. They made up for a shaky start with solid midround picks on players with value and fitting positional need.

I do know one thing Josh Jacobs wasn't all that, a dumb pick for the Raiders.

Why are my Niners wasting a pick on a TE?

The Giants are stupid.

I do have doubts that Murray is ready for the pro game, he scored a 20 on that Wonderlic test, at 15 he's on twitter calling everyone a queer, he bailed on a contract in baseball, he quit on Texas A&M, he has sucked in every interview and his dad hangs around. I'm pleased with our draft other than the Singletary pick (but I'd love to be proven wrong here), and
Beane made some solid FA acquisitions on affordable deals to help Allen out. Josh looked pretty damn good to finish the season, and if he continues his development then Buffalo should be back in playoff contention come 2020. I'm excited about our defense next season, though...has the potential to be elite if we can get decent DB play outside of Tre White.

Bills had maybe the best draft of any team. Oliver might have a higher ceiling than anyone else in the draft and was a steal where they took him.

The AFC East is going to be brutal in 1-2 years imo. Rosen is by far better than any other prospect Miami has had as a potential Marino replacement and the Bills are putting a really good team around Josh Allen.

Not sure what to make of the Rams' draft.

We addressed some line needs and got help at Linebacker. Looks like the team is happy with what we have in house and adding some pieces may be for depth which was an issue last year. I guess it's up to Notebloom to come in and man the line. Kupp returning may be the best quasi-draft thing going for the team. The drafting of another RB is concerning. Is Gurley going to be this annual question mark? I surely hope not.

Drafting RBs in the first 3 rounds is stupid tbh.

Yeah, the Saints drafting Alvin Kamara in the 3rd round was a horrible pick. lol smh

At least the first 2 rounds

3rd is iffy but he better be damn good and a year 1 major contributor (Kamara, Hunt were)

any GM who drafts a RB in the first round should get a lobotomy... or even better, a lobectomy.

You always point to the Patriots as the epitome of greatness and smart decisions.
Now you're saying their GM is stupid.

You can't have it both ways.

Even Will Hunting hated the Michel pick. It is what it is. Imagine the Patriots with Darius Leonard next to Hightower and Van Noy. Bell cows were available later in the draft. Oh well, they won anyway because the league just sucked last year outside of the Chiefs who had a historically sucky defense.

We’re not talking about Will Hunting. We’re talking about you extolling the Pats one day and contradicting yourself the next. Then qualifying their Super Bowl.

Personally, I think the Michele pick was bad. He’s got an injury history and my guess is that he’ll have knee problems his whole career.

But that hat has nothing to do with taking an RB in the late first round.

That being said, in general, using an early pick on RB is a bad idea. There’s not a lot of separation between the top college RBs. And I don’t think you get any extra wins by taking the #1 RB over the #10 RB. Especially if you have a good O line.

Barkley is an outlier in that he probably is worth a high pick for certain teams. Giants aren’t one of them though. You gotta be in SB contention to make that pick.

Anyway, the point of my post was to point out your consistent vacillation between your opinions.

And if you're in SB contention... it's irrelevant because you're not picking him anyway unless you trade the farm for him which probably pisses away your super bowl anyway.
