View Full Version : Scottie Pippen Says He Would Take TD Over LeBron

I was binge watching some old Tim Duncan videos and full games yesterday, and stumbled on a clip of ESPN First Take from February 14. Stephen A. Smith created his all-time NBA All-Star team, not necessarily the best players at their positions. When Scottie went to critique Stephen A's list he said that he would take TD over LeBron. Then Max Kellerman put his 2 cents in.
I'm getting off the subject a little bit, but I still consider TD the best player of the post-Jordan era, including LeBron. Anyway, you can see the whole video here:

Pip's always had respect for the Spurs. I believed he basically called Kawhi a bitch when he backstabbed us, too.

Different eras are nearly impossible to compare. Bill Russell was the most successful player in the history of the NBA, but he's rarely picked now as a top 5. But in a modern switching defense against a great three point shooting small ball team, he'd be much better than Shaq. If Nash or Bird were playing today, they'd almost definitely double the amount of threes they'd take, which would change their entire approach to the game. If Curry or Harden played in 1965, lots of their hesitation crossover moves and step backs would be whistled as travels, and not be allowed.

Scottie’s always had love for the Spurs tbh, but he’s also a bit of a flip-flopper who said Lebron might be better than Jordan just 3-4 years ago.

I’m not putting LeBron on my top 5 period. He’s lucky to have played in the East. Swept by the Spurs. Lucky to have won with nephew’s missed FT and again sent home packing with the beautiful game. It was Kyrie’s heroics which won against the Dubs. TD has won championships in different eras and types of basketball. Good for Pippen to acknowledge the best PF ever played :toast

Also they may even call those palming/carry violations everybody does today. Kawhi included

To say nothing of the fact that it was a dead ball era.

He calls it his all time list but it is only effective for this current era of play. Stephen A Smith is so frustrating an annoying to listen to. All time would be able to play in ALL eras.
It was difficult to just listen through that video clip. How in the hell do people listen an watch this guy on daily on his radio show an TV segment???

Scottie has always loved Tim. I remember him tweeting after Duncan retired that Tim was his favorite player.

I find it strange that refs in middle school and high school are still calling the game the way the rules are written and kids can't double dribble, palm or any of the other tricks that make the NBA game so exciting today.

Context. A week ago Pippen said Kobe had "the clutch gene" and LeBron did not.
So his cred is slightly above zero.
Maybe Kobme loaned or gave Pippen some money, I don't know.
Taking TD over LeBron is not some huge choice.
And LeBron has kicked ass to the tune of Duncan like performances as in the 2016 Finals. Haters need to refer to that and STFU with all the *Leastern Conference* parroting.

The entire NBA. A LOT of the highlight reel plays today are 100% impossible if the game is called according to the rules. The NBA made a conscious decision to change the way the game is called, but knew the shitstorm it would cause if they tried to officially change the rules.

Did you actually watch him? Because I did. He was a monster. His death had an incredible impact on the league. Adding him to the aging Cetic's lineup would have rejuvenated them and enabled them to compete for years. His passing tanked that franchise with league-wide consequences. Len Bias... wow!

Russell would have been an afterthought in the 90's and early 2000's, but today - you are right, his value would soar again.

Every one should.
TD carried you to 17 straights 50-win season in the West; Lebron is about to miss the fuckin Playoffs in his first attempt..

I have Lebron as my 7th pick if I were able to pick a player to start my franchise. I have Duncan as my 3rd pick. I don't really see Lebrons streak of finals as all that impressive bc he was able to coast in the regular season and save himself for the playoffs while Duncan had to play hard every year he played since 50 wins got him a 7th seed in the west while getting Lebron the 2nd seed in the pathetic east.

It's funny how these arguments get blown up then fizzle down once players fall away. There were several players who had Kobe top 5 all time after 2010 finals, then by his retirement, most have him out of the Top 10. LeBron was the 2nd best player of all time last year, now he's fallen away as he's stopped trying & his team has also.

When you think about the fact that Bird was dominating the league without having one athletic teammate, and then you add Len Bias? Saddest day ever for the league.

Too bad Scottie is way past his prime because he is someone we could use at the 3. Hopefully we can get us an athletic 3 & D via trade or the draft next season.
Not enough 3pt shooting on that team.
If you're building a team to stop today's best teams, you have to probably have some of today's best players.

Yeah, this would be LeBron's 2nd time missing the playoffs. He missed them in his rookie year.

crossovers were around in 65, they just didn't allow the constant palming, double dribbling, and traveling. It's bad when kids are online saying, "how am I supposed to crossover without putting my hands under the ball?". (no I'm not making this up). It's the way they are being taught and refs even in high school are refusing to call it today.
