But the broader topic is what leadership means today for the modern NBA superstar. In ancient times (like, you know, 15 years ago), leadership meant that NBA stars embraced the challenge of making those around them better. Now, in large part due to the player-movement era that James ushered in when he left Cleveland to team up with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh in Miami in 2010, superstars have been conditioned to give up on their current circumstances and demand better teammates, a new home or both.

"Now it's all about deferring and putting blame on somebody else," one of the Western Conference executives said. "Instead of being like an old-school guy and saying: 'I've got to do a better job. I've got to make my teammates better.' Great players and great leaders, that's what they do. That's what Kobe [Bryant] would've done. That's what Michael Jordan would've done."

:lmao

He’s right tho... if this teammates aren’t playing their hardest in money time it’s time to ship their asses off and get some teammates who know what’s up. Magic drafted/built a roster full of clowns, and nobody wants those clowns on their team, be it the Spurs, Pels or anybody.

LeBron himself hasn’t played his hardest from the beginning of the year :lol

That "Western Conference Executive" guy seems like he shouldn't be an NBA executive, tbh. All his quotes were embarrassing to read.

Nothing he said was wrong except using Kirby as an example of "old school" mentality. Kirby kind of started the disgruntled player movement in the NBA.

Kind of? When player see Kobe can rape, force trades, and stilll get all the credit for five championships and non of the blame for destroying the most storied franchise in league history, it was open season.

lebron tried carrying the cavs early in his career. didnt go anywhere because they were bums, and it's not for his lack of effort. he engineered the move to miami and it worked out, he won 2 rings and they were a juggernaut. went back to cleveland and arranged a new big 3 and won there too. his system worked, so i wouldn't blame him for sticking with it.

and thats why his move to the lakers signaled that he's done trying to win
