Who can show me a game roster showing Clark at TE?
Here is an actual game. There we see Clark where, yep....WR.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pcflzu8bKc0
No cards listing him as a TE, no rosters listing him as a TE, no game footage showing him as the starting TE/just WR.
This is actually a SLAMDUNK, not even close. Clark is without question a WR.

1980s all football players were smaller... we had 200 pound MLBs for crying out loud. 300 lbs was considered the upper limit for a huge run stuffing 3-4 nose tackle.

Got this off the Niners site.
However, while looking through the 49ers history, I noticed that there really haven't been that many great tight ends wearing the red, white and gold. As I've said repeatedly, I think Vernon Davis will reach that elite level at some point, but until then, the competition at the all-time TE position is scarce. Accordingly, I've decided to not even hold a vote. Simply put, Brent Jones (http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/J/JoneBr00.htm) is the best tight end in 49ers history and it's not all that close. Jones leads all 49ers tight ends in receptions, yards, touchdowns and Pro Bowl appearances and ranks in the top among all 49ers receivers in receptions, yards and touchdowns.
While Jones was never overrated as a tight end, I don't think he would qualify as underrated. I can't imagine anybody not recognizing the talent of Brent Jones and his major contributions during the 49ers glory days. He earned 3 Super Bowl rings and made four trips to the Pro Bowl. The 49ers had great receivers in Rice and Taylor and a great rushing/receiving threat in Roger Craig, but the importance of Jones to the West Coast offense is considerable. Throw in a streak of 125 consecutive games and you've got not only a franchise great, but an all-time great.
Honorable Mentions: Like I said, there is not a lot in the way of tight end talent in 49ers history. Ted Kwalick (http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/K/KwalTe00.htm) was a 3-time Pro Bowler at tight end in the early 70s, while Russ Francis (http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/F/FranRu00.htm) was the primary TE and immediate predecessor of Brent Jones. I really thought Eric Johnson might have worked his way onto this type of list, but injuries have derailed him and now he's off in New Orleans. If Vernon Davis can continue to improve (he did improve his receptions and yards from year 1 to year 2), I don't see why he won't pass Brent Jones in the 49ers record books. Davis is a receiving tight end who is immensely athletic and could become the primary target of Smith/Hill/whomever. But that's an argument for another day.
Where is Dwight Clark, what.....not even an honorable mention?
Why is he ranked third on that site at WR?
Avant

Judge.....I see Mr. Avant with a mountain of evidence proving that Dwight Clark was a WR. He has everything we could ask for, videos, cards, magazines, newspapers, rosters, WIKI, what more is there? Mr.Blake as nothing close to that, a feeble...Joe said....some obvious mistakes made by some reporters.
How funny was witness Spurraider with his......jump way ahead in the that video showing Clark at WR to ....see there he is at TE....hahaha~~ (the court laughs)
There is nothing left to do here but proclaim Dwight Clark a WR and Mr. Avant was right. I have to ask however....Mr. Blake you didn't know Mr, Avant was a long time Niner fan? He can talk Billy Wilson but can't talk Dwight Clark, think about that.

Ok, here is that dagger in the heart.
George Kittle breaks Vernon Davis’s single season 49ers record for most receiving yards by a tight end
Davis had 965 yards in a season, the most ever by a Niner TE. Dwight Clark has a 1105 season, so if he were a TE that would have been the record, right?
That should put an end to this silliness. All of us who know football knew Clark was never a TE.
Blake, it's time,ok? How about.....ok ok ok I was wrong...ok?

Let's reveiw
Game videos showing Clark at WR, none showing him at TE.
Football cards showing Clark as a WR, none showing him as a TE
Niner rosters listing Clark as the WR, none listing him as a TE.
Clark averaging over 13 yards a reception, that is better than any of the great TE's in decades.
Niner site talking the best Niner TE's, no Clark mentioned.
Same site talking the best Niner WR, Clark at number three.
George Kittle breaking the yards records for a Niner TE, he breaks the 965 yard record held by Vernon Davis, Clark has a 1105 season, if a TE that would have been the record.
All the evidence is there. Who can't see that Dwight Clark was a WR?
Avant
03-19-2019, 03:12 AM
Add
Kellen Winslow was a GREAT TE, his career avg per catch....12.5, his best season 14.5.
He was a far better player than Dwight Clark, yet, here are Clarks numbers...13.3/16.9.....how can that be, hell Winslow is in the Hall of Fame. Could it be....Clark has WR numbers and Winslow has TE, ya think?
And, Clark was a 212 pounder, that's kinda light for TE.
Avant
03-19-2019, 03:25 AM
Tony Gonzalez is considered the greatest TE to ever play the game, his numbers are staggering, BUT......
He averaged 11.4 yards a catch, his best season ever a 12.9.
Clark had that 13.3/16.9.
So Dwight Clark as a TE had more yards than Winslow and Gonzalez per catch? Try..nope. He had a WR average, not a TE.
How could anyone not get this?
NY Times Magazine
https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2018/12/27/magazine/lives-they-lived-dwight-clark.html
The play that led to the pass that led to The Catch was called Sprint Right Option. The primary target was the speedy Freddie Solomon; the second was Dwight Clark, a wide receiver no one except the San Francisco 49ers’ coach, Bill Walsh, thought could be an N.F.L. star. The Clark option rarely worked in practice — Joe Montana would throw the ball too high or too low. Targeting Solomon was typically a better bet, except in the last minute of the fourth quarter on that chilly January night at Candlestick Park in San Francisco, when Solomon slipped on the soggy grass.
It was 1982, and the San Francisco 49ers were still “lovable losers destined to break your heart,” recalls the longtime sportswriter and N.F.L. Network analyst Michael Silver, who grew up a 49ers fan. The Dallas Cowboys, the 49ers’ opponent in that night’s N.F.C. championship game, had dominated the previous decade and reeked of the imperiousness that came with being anointed “America’s Team.”

Former Idaho basketball R.C. Owens could jump. So he lined up right under the crossbar, yep, gonna jump up and bat down a FG. Yep, he batted down a FG. I know that Niner (with the Colts) lore but not where ......

R. C. Owens’ one-of-a-kind field-goal block
A couple of years ago, when R. C. Owens (http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/O/OwenR.00.htm) died, newspapers mentioned the unusual way he’d once blocked a field goal try for the Colts. From his New York Times obituary (http://www.nytimes.com/2012/06/20/sports/football/r-c-owens-wide-receiver-behind-the-alley-oop-dies-at-77.html?_r=0):
In 1962, the 6-foot-3 Owens wowed fans by standing under the goal post at the goal line (goal posts have since been moved to the back of the end zone) and leaping to block a long, line-drive field-goal attempt by the Washington Redskins. The tactic was legislated out of existence.
Unfortunately, none of Owens’ obits featured a photo of his amazing play, perhaps because papers couldn’t find one. I ran into the same problem 25 years ago when I was digging up art for my first book, The Pro Football Chronicle. Nobody had kept the negative — or something.
Too bad. As you can see, R. C. really got up there. He was already on his way down (along with the ball) when this was snapped. Don’t ask me where it came from.
Owens the first Niner to have a 1000 yard season, he and QB Y.A.Tittle famous for the Alley Oop pass. Title throwing oi high, Owens jumping over everyone to snag it.

Dude, Clark was a WR, no need to expose the posters here as know nothings, so slow that roll.
No court ignores video evidence, where is any where he starts at TE?
What about Charles Young, Russ Francis the real TE;s? What about Clarks 13.3 avg per catch, which is better than all the great TE's, well?
Dude, if you are thinkin about going into law, drop that idea.
the court of law weighed the evidence and reached a verdict. you presented your case. it was considered.

Sorry but nobody ignores the facts. The facts prove he was never a TE. The facts show us he played WR.
Obviously the jury wouldn't know a TE or a WR from a LB or a DB.

If we don't see any video proving he played TE we must go with the one proving he played WR.
YES.....he did line up tIght, there is no doubt about that at all, but......he always played a FAR FAR FaR larger % of his game as what he was a WR. He was always listed as a WR, never a TE.

Judge...so we have new evidence, it appears that Dwight Clark was a highly ranked WR in his day, we see a 4th best WR. Now, when looking at him as a TE we see nothing, no mention at all. Well......that pretty much wraps this silliness up, anyone disagree? (everyone agreed).
The final say of this court is this.
Dwight Clark is a WR, so good job Mr Avant, you overwelmed us with evidence proving your side, ever thought of being a lawyer? Anyway.....Mr. Blake, it was as if you never really caught on to what true evidence really is. No video evidence, no rosters, no nothing actually showing Clark being a TE. Trust me....but Joe said......was never going to work, how you thought it would..??? You were shown numerous football cards all reading WR, which you just ignored, when you finally found one that mentioned he played some TE you freaked out, but....you didn't see....WIDE RECEIVER?
Ok, case closed.

There is absolutely no doubt of any kind that Clark was a WR and not a TE. How anyone couldn't see this....???

Right now I;m over on another site a place that talks football first. It is a football forum but does have sub forums.

Now, will you go with what those guys say? Talking a FAR more football knowledgeable gang there....well? Guys there who can talk the history of it all.
Blake, you're just not getting it, YES Clark has lined up as a TE, I mentioned that right off the bat, BUT....he was never known as a TE...what about that aren't you understanding? Dude, all his cards say...WR...for a reason, yep...WR.
Dude, Jmmy Graham lines up out wide all the time, right? But....he is neverr ever called a WR because he isn't, you really don't get this?
Now I showed you that place you mentioned above showing Clark as the number 4 best WR of the 80's and no mention at al as a TE.
Now here is Clark on that same site as the third greatest WR in Niner history. And there is talk of the best Niner TE's numerous places, Clark is never mentiined at all.

In the real world when a guy who can talk the Niners in their AAFC days tells you......Dwight Clark was a WR, people will.....ok thanks. Only here do we see....so what ya have over 55 years following the Niners.
Amazing~~~
The first NFL 1000 yard rusher from one of those HBCU schools (NCA&T) was J.D.Smith a converted college DB. Yep, a Niner.
There has never been any team that had three future Hall of Famer's at RB but the Niners, all there together.
This was...
Joe "Jet" Perry...Compton JC
Hugh "King" McElhenny....Compton JC/Washington
John Henry Johnson ....ASU (a FB)
Their first 1000 yard WR was former Idaho basket baller R. C. Owens, he and QB Y.A.Tittle (and there was C.R. Roberts also...ha~) famous for the Alley Oop pass.
Leo "Lion" Nomellini a lineman and a Hall of Famer as big in the rasslin' biz.
Illinois hurdler Abe Woodson a stud kick returner.
Jim Johnson (HOFer) was the bro of Olympic decathlon gold medalist Rafer Johnson, they grew up in nearby Kingsburgh.
But I don't know what position Dwight Clark played, hahaha~~~~
Who remembers Niners...Gary Lewis, George Mira, Ken Willard? How about....Paul Hofer, Michael Carter, Ricky Patton?
I know what position Dwight Clark played and it wasn't TE.
Hell, according to my Niner clock....10:50 as I sit this whiskey and coke down in this Niner coaster. Wearing a Niner ball cap and sweater. Over there under glass....
Ronnie Lott RC
Joe Montana RC
Jerry Rice RC
Frank Gore RC
Terell Owens RC

Dude, a loser is a guy who ignores all his football cards, actual game footage, a Niner site listing the best Niner TE and he isn't mentioned, a site talking the best WR's of the 80's and he is number 4, then when talking TE's, no mention at all. That is a loser and you lost, why are you STILL failing to realize the obvious? Blake ya got beat accept it, ok man?
Blake, do you really think I only post here? The reason I do post here is because we can talk like this, this isn't allowed anywhere else. And that sucks.

I am trying to get more posters involved which is hard to do with something that simple. How many will....yep, WR?
When I see that's it and nobody else has a take then I will show you that NOBODY said....he was a TE...BUT....only if you promise to.....ok ok ok I was wrong he was not a TE.....deal?
Then there is always....
You go to any football forum on the internet and ask the question....Was Dwight Clark a TE..........watch what happens everywhere you ask that question, you wil read....WR. And if somebody...TE...watch how quickly he gets mugged with...WRONG.
You never even watched any of those videos at all did ya?
Challenge to everyone.
Find any football forum ask if Clark was a TE, if more posters say...TE than WR.....my days here are done, yep....poof~~~ gone.

Here is an actual game, all anyone has to do is watch, BINGO~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pcflzu8bKc0
Only here could this even be debated at all, wow~~~~~~~~~~~~~
See the list of starters, see......WR Dwight Clark?

Watching a replay of last seasons Chiefs vs Pats game, just saw Tyreek Hill line up at RB (which he was in college) and take a pitch out, so he's now a WR/RB?
No he's not.

Blake, I gave you the deal, why aren't you taking it?
Because you don't have the leverage in the deal. I do.
Right now all I have to do is call you a liar and it's done.

I just showed you Niner rosters for every season Clark played, there he is at WR, how about some grunt or something, ok?
Dude, just watch any game on youtube, and there he is....WR.
Do you really think I don't post other places? I just don't want you there.

I challenge anyone to show any actual game footage where Clark was listed as a TE.
Any football card that lists Clark...TE
Any Niner roster that reads Clark TE.
Any video game where Clark is a TE.
Any ranking where he is a TE.
Where is that at?

That right there says it all. Blake, you haven't ever really gotten this at all, and that proves it.
Dude, see where it reads.....WIDE RECEIVER...? That is what he is listed as, ok guy? What about this don't you understand? The guy was NEVER called a TE, never thought of as a TE, never considered to be a TE.........my God guy. Did he once in awhile come in tight.....sure. BUT....the guy never played the TE position.
Are you kidding me?
Talk to me about this, stop ignoring it.

In any actual court of law all that would be needed is actual game footage of Clark playing WR and none of him playing TE. That is all that would matter. I have absolute proof he played WR, Blake has....nothing.
Blake, it really is time you showed Clark playing TE like he did WR in a game, so where is it?
I can show any Niner game from 81-86 knowing it will prove my point, why can't you do that......well?

Blake, here are Niners rosters from 81 to 86, see.....Clarke WR? He ignores them,
Well this freak got his ass totally kicked and it was fun kicking this idiots ass, the guy is beyond stupid if he can;t figure out I know the Niners and Clark was a WR.
Blake, you got whipped son, time to admit it, ok?
Stupid, there is nobody in the world who can talk the Niners on my level, dead serious...................Dwight Clark was a WR.
Talk to me about C.R.Roberts, yep, no clue, want me to take you to school on who he was? That is where I'm at dummy, don't you think I'm going to know about Dwight Clark? Anything about him being a TE is 100% wrong and those who wrote that don't know football. And yes I know more about it than they do being a fan a lot longer.

What did the football card tell you.
"He lined up at tight end"
If it hardly happened, why mention it?
Why have so many media outlets mentioned it?

Blake, what do you think of what I just showed you, well? Talk to me about why on all those rosters we never see Clark at TE......well? Blake, stop ignoring what I'm showing you. So why do we see him only at WR.....well?
I showed you were he's a WR in that Madden game, don't ignore it. What do you think about it....well?
And, do you really think TOPPS would have got it wrong all those years listing him as a....WR?
Dude, post any Niner game video ya want and we will not see Clark as the TE. Not saying he will never come in tight but it real be real obvious he is the WR. Just watch any game and there it is.
Blake, a Niner fan isn't going to know the Dwight Clark story....really?
Blake
03-27-2019, 03:57 PM
In a court of law in this case, documents and expert testimony saying he also played tight end would likely suffice.
I've got both. You lose.

Blake, pay attention.
Nobody is saying the guy never played in tight, I told you I've seen him line up at the TE position a few times...ok guy? Just like Jimmy Graham lines up out wide. BUT....BUT....his position, his roster spot, his pay, had him at the WR position. What about that don't you get? My God guy you really can't figure this out.......really?
I just showed you the guys who did play TE when Clark was there, what did that tell you? The fact we see him listed as a WR for all those years doesn't send a message?
Dude, at no time in his career did Dwight Clark ever come into any game as the TE, ok guy? Would he have a play where he came in tight...sure. But he was always a WR.
Blake, it would be just this simple.
Avante....here are all his games on video watch them for yourselves court. Now where did Clark play?
They would all come back....he was a WR.
Dude. you're whipped. you lost, and everybody knows it. Go ahead Blake.....ok ok ok I was wrong.
No such thing as a WR/TE on any roster.

Montana:
“He’ll do everything you want him to. He’ll block downfield. He’ll come in tight and be a small tight end. He never even questioned it..."

Blake......what is Montana telling us there? Where is....he'll come in.....from? Dude, where is he at to have to....he'll come in.....well?
Dude, are you for real? Montana is saying.........as a WR he'd still come in and play TE if need be......ok? BUT.....as you saw numerous times his position was always....WR. Montana telling you that with...........he'll come in. If he were a TE he's already be there.
Wow~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'm taking the win, it's getting stupid now, Blake got his ass kicked and it was fun doing it.
Blake, ya took a beating son, surprised ya can still type.
Just watch any Niner game from 80-86 and there it is. Dwight Clark WR.
At no time do we ever see....TE Dwight Clark

Dude, what about......just watch actual game footage....don't you get? Where is any game footage where he is the TE?
Go to post 213 in this thread (page 7) there are all those places and more calling Clark a WR.

Thanks.
What is strange and I do get what Blake is saying, is how many times we do read....tight end Dwight Clark. Real easy to see a non Niner fan thinking he was a TE. But....when a known Niner fan of over 50 years tells you......actually he was a WR, honest.....then ya....ok thanks.

Blake, you have never really got this at all, And I've explained it to you a dozen times.
Please pay "close" attention, ok?
I told you early in this YES...YES...YES...Clark came in tight, he played the TE position...ok guy? BUT....at no time was he ever thought of or considered to be a TE....ok guy?
Dude, stop with this silliness, ok? Just look at any actual game footage, why aren't you doing that? The guy never ever stated a game as THE TE...ok Blake? Watch any game he ever played and 98% of the time....WR. Dude, watch any game and there it is.
Blake, ya got beat, time to simply....ok ok I was wrong he was a WR and not a TE.

So why do all of Clarks cards read...WR...well?
