Many of the things most people complained about PATFO still hold true:

-Giving Pau that contract extension. This one was so bad that we are still paying the man to play for another team.
-Overpaying for Mills.
-Not signing a defensive minded wing.
-The Kawhi trade (DeRozan will have to play like he did against the Warriors for the entirety of his contract to change this fact. Especially in the playoffs. One or two regular season games here and there aren't going to cut it)

And some other things, which are things that many fans were asking for months in advance and Pop finally did it:

We haven’t even seen this team in the playoffs yet. All they did was win at home where they have an elite record barely beating contenders (like when they nearly blew the Denver game) and beat two lottery teams on the road, wow championship is coming soon.

A lot of people had reason to doubt this team's ability to be much more than a lottery team the way they started out. 11-14 and getting crushed in their losses. It didn't look good. Do I really have to give you examples to support my point? I actually feel you are right, we should have done better based off our expectations but when you look at the data league wide, we’ve been pretty solid. Top to bottom roster wise, where do you think we rank now as well as those years? Not performance/production based but player wise ( we do more with less ). it is enough to look at the last 5 drafts: who picked who, and which player developed into a legitimate starter (no need to pick a bench warmer, obviously, as it is easier to just call up a mature player from Euroleague or a jungster from G-league). Several were not picked by lottery teams.
And some lottery teams picked in the lottery losers like:

2017 Fulk, Ntilikina, Smith Jr, Monk
2016 Bender, Dunn, Papagiannis, Valentine
2015 Okafor, Hezonja, Kaminsky, Cameron Payne (that was hilarious)
2014 J.Parker, Stauskas, Vonleh, McDermott, Warren

In the same drafts, were picked out of the lottery (1st round only):

DeRozan's contract is underwater, which means that they are going to have to give up value to get out of it. They already tried to unload Aldridge for value, and couldn't get it.
