Wow! Did Peggy ever hit it on the head. I think back to my days of youth here in Texas. Most people in those days were pretty well self reliant. Most didn't have very much money, including my family. Everyone looked out after their family and friends. Most worked hard, those that had farms or those that worked "in town". We had many black families in my home town and all, white and black got along as friends, I can see some of the younger people saying: yeah, I'll just bet. Well one thing my Grandmother used to peddle (sell) farm produce from the back of her pick-up to many of those blacks and got into trouble with the rationing people during the WWII for not taking the rationing coupons for the butter she sold them. REAL butter, not creamery butter of today. People of today don't realize that the young people of my time (myself and others) did see that it was wrong to treat the black people (Negro's) they way they were treated, and yes we spoke out to our parents and grandparents about it. We didn't demonstrate, except I guess at home. Then the race whores came along along with many others taking up other issues and caused people to take sides. No long slow, yes slow, process of give and take and a true consensus of opinion, just by-God you are with me or agin me. I just wished many people even Teddy boy had taken up singing with the opera, instead of Congress. Forgive my rambling, but I do look back in time to more simple times, and they were more simple, not in thought and enlightenment, but in everyday living. In those days there was a lot of time for reading and thinking. Which we seem to lack now days. I used the example of race not because it is uppermost in my mind, but it seems like one of the things never seems to have gone away in my life. The issue of "equal" rights was settle many years ago, but it seems some just don't want to let go. You can apply this same logic to many things as Peggy said. People want to question all government decisions in everything. Blame government for not taking care of them, when they are quite capable of taking care of themselves. Does everyone now days thing hurricanes, tornado's just started in our lifetime. No they didn't, and people had to take care of themselves and did quite well, thank you. Oh-well enough said. I ramble one.

Nope. But, I do find myself fretting over my children the way she describes -- wanting them to have good memories from childhood because I fear a critical period looming.

The current age is coming to a close. The same winds that started to blow in the late 1920's are starting to blow again, but they are blowing harder and hotter this time.

If this article doesn’t read like the wheels coming off the conservative turnip truck, I don't know what does. As I told you before, conservatism will eventually fall by the way-side right next to Leninism and Marxism. Theoretically, conservatism, or the privatization of what has been traditionally done by government, sounds good, but realistically it just doesn’t work. So, Republicans are left with only social conservatism, which nobody but a few moonbats who post here really want.

What's new is never has a government failed so absolutely following it's own political philosophy with very little opposition from opponents.

We want a big military, social security, homeland security, medicare, criminals in prison, education, etc. We want it all, but we don't want to pay for it. We want wars, disaster relief, and everything else with tax cuts.

Americans like to bitch and moan. Evidence of that is clearly seen in the Political Forum.

You simple twerp! You have no idea what is conservatism, none whatsoever. Conservatism is the fabric which America made what is/was. Not is, because we have gone to the zenith and are now on the downhill side. You wont understand that statement. Why? Because you have no ideas, no belief. Why? Because you and others like you only see the dark side of the planet. You have no idea where this country started and where we went to. You have no idea on what the foundation this country was established. You have thrown out and discarded all principles, you ridicule and make fun of the the fundamental principles of this country. The morals that established this country. Your only thoughts are from the Nixon years, the Bush years and the Clinton years. You are a twerp, and no better than a pimple on a dimm-o-craptic ass. Go back into your hole and brood, I choose to live and honor this country. I choose to tell people like you to kiss my foot and other places where the sun doesn't shine. You are my enemy. You dare to compare conservatism to Leninism and Marxism is an insult to all America.

A twerp is a twerp is a twerp. And a minor eruption on a minor portion of a minor person. Short version: just a pain in the ass to an ass.

Definition of twerp: A person regarded as insignificant and contemptible.

That's where we are now.

Only the glut of savings in the rest of the world is keeping us from feeling the pain of our own insolvency. But once our creditors decide they have better things to do with their money than finance our debt, we are deeply, deeply fucked.

Now, they won't do that until their markets are strong enough to weather the implosion of the U.S. economy... but it's a matter of when, not if.

When it does, we'll be wiped out. We'll be Russia -- an impoverished nation with a huge military.

Yes, it can -- and will happen here.

The bright side for social conservatives is that once our advanced technological society is destroyed and people are poor, starving, and looking for answers, they'll turn back to old-time religion. Whoopee!

Yes, as long as foreign governments keep taking Uncle Sam's checks. Once that stops and the cost of living increases dramatically for average Americans, you'll be surprised how fast people forget about gay marriage.

Oh I think it's probably over. A nation can't lie to itself over and over, year after year, and expect to survive. But we're 'politically correct' to the end.
