prison time for white collar crime is always an interesting discussion, and depends on what you think the purpose of prison is.

is it to keep the public safe from threats? if so, then prison is only really needed for violent offenders.

is it punitive? then it absolutely makes sense in the context of white collar crime, as fines dont hurt rich people much

How about as a deterrent to future Richie white collar snakes thinking of doing the same?
The current InJustice system is laughed at by the richies.

I voted similar to Pelican in both Yes and No.
Explaination is, basically I think she weasles out one way or another, does money or physical favors to judge or jury but.....PR conscious judge may give her a few months in Club Fed strictly for PR veneer of it looking like justice. Prolly sentence her to a year or two with a wink nod agreement she's getting out in months.

It makes sense that the privileged would want to look out for one another. That's really the way of the world. Step out of line like Cosby did and they'll throw the book at you still. The Smollette case was blatant even for the elite. They made a mockery out of a mockery.

Well now that money laundering is included in the charges, there's a chance.. Either way it will be minimal, and the feds is known as the resort when it comes to state jails or dept. of corrections. I hope she gets prison time simply for walking into court smiling and shaking the prosecutions hands :lol

You know what I think? A massive overhaul to the prison system. As in, inclusion and desegregation. Include women; stop segregating based on gender. Prisons should be co-ed and gender-blind, even down to the cell level. Just group anybody with anybody based on a computer lotto system.

Do you think the feminists agree?

Don't know how reliable gossip mag Sophie Dweck is but:

Loughlin reportedly having her liarwyers pitch a "No jail time and substancial fine of 2 million."
:lmao substancial :rolleyes. Those two fucktards worth reportedly north of 100 million.

The Fuller House star was already angry with her fashion designer husband, 56, after he recommended they reject the plea deal prosecutors offered in April, says the insider. “Lori was inclined to take the deal, but Mossimo said it would ruin both of their careers.”

Because it's still in progress and they just had a court appearance.
And "to plea or not to plea" may or may not even be on option now. Interesting development.
(Probably shouldn't be, but richies and the InJustice System have a way of cooperating.

Also this is the first news (that I have seen) about whether or not Full House chick considered taking the plea offer previously.

Judge Indira Talwani will get the ball rolling with a Sept 13th sentencing of Felicity Huffman.
Prosecutors want a month behind bars while defense liarwyers are of course calling for no time and spinning a "mom just wanting to help daughters" deflection.

Dad receives 4 months in prison for paying $250K to get son into USC
BOSTON – Devin Sloane, a Los Angles business executive, was sentenced Tuesday to four months in prison for paying $250,000 to get his son accepted into the University of Southern California as a fake water polo recruit.
He is the second parent to be sentenced in Boston federal court in the nation's college admissions scandal after actress Felicity Huffman received 14 days in prison this month.
U.S. District Judge Indira Talwani also sentenced Sloane to 500 hours of community service over two years and a $95,000 fine.
"Just because you’re a good person doesn’t mean you don’t commit a crime when you do those things," Talwani said. “I come back to the action you took in bribing a college official. Bribing a college official is a serious crime. You are not a repeat player, but what you did involved your child."

Federal prosecutors had recommended that Sloane receive one year and a day in prison in addition to a $75,000 fine and 12 months of supervised release. Sloane's lawyers said he should be sentenced to 2,000 hours of community service instead of prison and proposed he launch and oversee a Special Olympics initiative at independent schools.
The judge rejected that idea, noting that Sloane has an exemplary record of community service. "I think those are very good characteristics," she said. "But I don’t understand how it’s punitive."

But Talwani interjected at several moments to disagree with his defense, including when Hochman disputed that Sloane knew Heinel received bribe money. He said his client did not know what Singer did with the money.
“Your client didn’t know how the messy details were being worked out," Talwani said. "But he understood the money was being used to bribe a USC official."
Hochman painted Singer as a "world-class scheme and manipulator" and suggested that Sloane would not have committed the crime if not for Singer. That also drew sharp disagreement from the judge.
"Why is that the question?" Talwani said, noting that she has defendants come before her court regularly who have been offered a “financial route” to sell drugs or commit other crimes. “Why does it matter that somebody invited him?”

all of this for next to nothing... in reality, companies care very little to zero about where you went to school, but rather whether or not you actually have a degree and how many years of work experience you have. Going to USC or Stanford or Ivy league vs. UH-Galveston or Prairie View A&M won't make you more money aside from the fact you may have to relocate to an expensive state like California to make the exact same dollar figure (but COLA adjustments usually don't cover the true cost of living differences, especially state income taxes).

Does "supervised release" mean having to wear the ankle thing 24/7 for a year?

I'd rather just spend the time in jail.

Or she and her husband have or will suck the right cocks and get off. He is purportedly still a regular at his Bel Air Country Club, yakking it up and displaying no worry whatsoever.

Several last week got more time then they thought. But ya still a couple weeks at Club Fed for them.

Full House I agree with you gets a token -month+ and a fine of less then 1% of her worth.

Eh, I'm not sure the school didn't still let those kids in. It's not like there's a student population cap.

And either way, it seems more of a civil suit than a jail time criminal charge. Sue Lori, sue the school. Don't waste tax dollars prosecuting silly elitist shit.

6 months. Longest sentence so far.

Toby MacFarlane, a former real estate and title insurance executive from Del Mar, California.

*U.S. District Judge Nathaniel Gorton stressed that MacFarlane participated in the nationwide admissions scheme led by college consultant Rick Singer "not once, but twice," taking seats at USC away from two deserving students.

*Geezer Bush appointee. Separate judge from the liberal pussy who has performed the other cases so far.

Full House chick and hubby selling their Bel Air house.

Has nothing to do with the federal case, and more about flipping the house for some money. The couple's 12-bedroom home is located in Bel-Air, is in one of the most exclusive areas of Los Angeles. As noted by TMZ, real estate records show that the couple bought the estate in 2015 for $13.9 million. They are asking for $28,650,000, as they've renovated the home over the past five years.

"They've done this for years, selling the family home every three to fives," the webloid says.

Trial not expected until Oct 2020.

LOS ANGELES — Michelle Janavs, heiress to a frozen foods fortune, was sentenced Tuesday to five months in prison for paying $100,000 to fix her daughters’ college entrance exams and agreeing to pay twice that amount to sneak one girl into the University of Southern California by misrepresenting her as an elite beach volleyball player.

Janavs, heiress to a frozen foods fortune, was sentenced Tuesday to five months in prison for paying $100,000 to fix her daughters' college entrance exams and agreeing to pay twice that amount to sneak one girl into the University of Southern California by misrepresenting her as an elite beach volleyball player.
Janavs, a resident of Newport Coast, pleaded guilty in October to conspiring to commit fraud and money laundering, admitting she paid William “Rick” Singer, a Newport Beach college admissions consultant, to rig ACT exams for her daughters and bribe a USC administrator to misrepresent the older girl’s athletic skills.
The five-month term, handed down by U.S. District Judge Nathaniel M. Gorton, came short of the 21 months federal prosecutors had requested. They wanted an enhancement for what they called an abuse of trust, saying Janavs used her status as trustee of her daughters’ school, the Sage Hill School in Newport Beach, “to insulate herself from the fraud.”

Not sure she only gets a month. I think she should though. She didn't directly hurt anyone. Sounding pretty bad for Lori tho.

She hurt the student who did not get in or was weight listed because USC does not have an infinite number of spots for enrollment, her law breaking bribes eliminated a spot that could have gone to someone who had the grades and test scores to be admitted to USC.

So criminal fine her, kick her out and let the student sue her.

Not much different to me than the Astros cheating, imo

Wow that's far less then others with her level of bribe got.

Husband Giannulli getting 5 months.

I figured with their level of cash and lack of morals they would get the sneakiest lawyers money can buy.

There's no guarantee that they'll do any prison time other than checking in and checking out the next day. Thousands of prisoners are getting released due to the overcrowded conditions/coronavirus. They probably took that into consideration when taking the deal.

All gonna depend on how Rona is in August - September.

Giannulli's sentencing hearing is set for Friday August 21 at 11 a.m. and Loughlin's is set for 2:30 p.m. the same day.

Assuming this wasn't staged by her PR people, Becky gets a dose of reality:

Lori Loughlin's Los Angeles home robbed of $1 million of jewelry by masked burglars (msn.com) (https://www.msn.com/en-us/tv/celebrity/lori-loughlin-s-los-angeles-home-robbed-of-1-million-of-jewelry-by-masked-burglars/ar-AASOMWP?ocid=msedgntp)

burglars smashed a bedroom window to gain entry into the home. Nobody was home at the time, and the break-in was later discovered by a housekeeper. Surveillance cameras revealed that the thieves dressed in all black and wore masks over their faces as they stole Loughlin's jewelry box, which was filled with the pricey baubles.
While police were not sure if Loughlin and Giannulli's home was specifically targeted, they do believe the heist was carried out by a South American burglary crew that travels into the country and quickly leaves, according to TMZ.
In response to the burglary, representatives for Loughlin told TMZ that the actress is "thankful no one was hurt," and that Saget's recent passing puts the incident into perspective for her.
