I had my knee surgery yesterday and am now inn recovery. I had Timmy's same torn medial meniscus, so hope mine heals as well as his did. I was given general anesthesia for the first time and I was amazed how freaking fast I went out. I was saying something and all of the sudden, lights out. Then they are telling me an hour later as they are wheeling me out of the OR, that I am finished.

My NBA career aspirations are probably over, but I should be able to run, ski and golf again soon.

Maybe I will be ok by poker night.

Hey, my daughter had knee surgery yesterday too! She said she closed her eyes and when she opened them she told them she was ready and they said they were already done. She was so funny when they had her doped up. She's actually been pretty pleasant since she been on the pain meds. I'm glad your back and I hope your feeling better soon.

Jolie? Ehhhh. Her boo-boo kisses are highly overrated. Although she gets props for being a magnet for suppressed lesbians looking for three-ways.

Now, for Alba, I might have to come up with some self-inflicted boo-boos . . . :devil

Yeah. I have no personal experience with athroscopic surgery, but I found it strange that they were willing to risk GA (which is NOT a completely benign procedure), when it can easily be done with local and sedation.

Maybe they figured Jim would turn into a bawling blubberball without it.

I actually told them to just shoot it up with Marcaine and give me some Jack Daniels, but the surgeon who is my neighbor also said that he wants the patient to be completely still and and that when he has had them under local and sedation, they either tighten up of move and he does not like that.

He wants to be able to control the situation and that was ok after he explained it.

BTW, thanks again for the well wishes.

He just didn't want you watching. When you actually get to see them you understand why your knee is so damn sore the next day...

Those scope things look kind of like ice picks. My orthopod gets those suckers in my knee and then focuses on the screen. His hands are going on those things like a sugar loaded 10 year old with a video game controller in each hand...no wonder they hurt so much the same day...

I would think the swelling/stiffness should be completely gone in two weeks if you are doing all your rebab exercises...then you just have to be careful on your footing not to stumble and tweak it.

The rehab exercises seem stupid but they really can make a difference on the final results...

My advice would be to not increase the recommended reps but it doesn't hurt to increase the sets as long as you rest between...are you doing weights or bands?

I have not started anything yet, the rehab center has not called me yet. I am just doing a leg lift straight out and holding for 10 secs and slowly lowering it.

holy shit...your doctor really IS an antique...

My orthopod is the top sports knee guy in SA...and he won't even let you go home without meeting with the rehab people...it's just part of his procedure...he has the appt. set up when he schedules the surgery...and you start the rebab exercises the same day of the surgery...the first few days are really critical on regaining flexibility...

Plus I was so out of it, there was no way that I go anywhere that day.
