View Full Version : Manu retired one year too early Man

We never would've lost to the lowly Nuggets this year with Manu on the team. Spurs have no one on the team with any heart except for one 2nd year (former) Colorado Guard. But this was his first postseason and his first game 7 and he succumbed to the pressure like young players do.

Instead we had to rely on no show Aldridge and playoff choker DeRozan. Pop was forced to close with the Wombat who did absolutely nothing all series long except bleed points and wave the white flag (Or in this instance white towel) both literally and metaphorically. Manu wins us that game. He might be ancient and missing a testicle but Manu wins us that game 7. Just by his energy, his hustle, his play and veteran savvy, his heart and tenacity. He wins us the game by making a key shot or taking a key charge or making an amazing pass that no one else could make.

I know it's a moot point but it was just so frustrating to watch this team this year, with their inconsistency and lack of accountability. But even with all of that, we had a chance to have home court and a very very good chance to win the 1st round.

In the long run I think by having Manu we would've gotten home court just bc we wouldn't have to play Forbes point guard for so many minutes or make DeRozan play 40 minutes a night while creating every offensive play. We ran him ragged and we paid a steep price for it in January and February. Manu would've taken some of the pressure off Demar and DeRozan could just go do what he was made to do which is score the basketball. I think we would've won more games if we had Manu this year and had home court in the playoffs as well.

My rant is over :lol but seriously I miss Ginobili

Well that happens when you are going to get 2 million banging your body while you see a washed up 37 year old scrub getting 16 million a year.

Manu was one of a kind and of course was missed.

I was just thinking about Manu the other day when John Havlicek died.

Manu reminded me of Havlicek more than any other NBA player since.

Manu played a lot like Havlicek -- clever, crafty, tough, winning -- Manu was every bit the player Hondo was.

That said, may the Great Hondo Havlicek rest in peace.

we definitely beat Denver with Manu on the team. I think Belinelli would have been the odd man out

SMH That slow developing pic n' roll that toothpick midgets like Wombat and 'Baby Curry' were powerless to combat.

Manu would've been a giant upgrade just on that one thing that killed us the most.

Spurs f'ing made Jamaal Murray look like an all-star. Nuggets basically benched Barton cos Spurs were

so powerless against something so simple ran possession after possession.

Hell, we probably beat Denver if Parker was still here

Manu wouldn't have bitched out like White did in Game 7, that's for sure. He also would've had the ball in his hands in our last possession and made a pass for an open three instead of DeRozan having his shit blocked.

Manu was done. He would have been eviscerated by Beasley and Murray..even worse than Wombat.

These nostaglia fans. Theres a reason why je retired :lol

he definitely wouldn't have shot 11.8% from 3 for the series, that's for sure. That alone probably wins us 1 extra game

hard to do worse than 0-7 from 3 and a plus minus of -21 tbh. I think Mills finished with like a total of -100 for the series. Even if Ginobili had -80 and shot 1-7 in threes, that's still better than Mills. Mills was historically bad

We wouldnt have played Denver because we woiuldve been a higher seed, probably wouldve been like a 5 seed and played Houston :lol

Player fan troll take.

Manu didn't retire b/c he had nothing in the tank. He retired cos he didn't want to play on a non championship contender. Though if he could've known how things would've shaped up this season, he might've given it another go.

Heck, forget about game 7. The game 2 debacle doesn't happen with Manu righting the ship to end the 3rd and start the 4th.

Having Manu would have probably been the difference between a first round exit and a WCF appearance.

Keepin' it real

Agreed. Too early but I think what Kawhi did last year put a bad taste in his mouth.

Let the man retire and enjoy his life now, Spurs fans let it go... He retired on time, next phase of his life started and he needs to enjoy that.
