Which player, that never played for the Spurs during the Tim Duncan era, do you feel, should have been a Spur at some point in his career?

That ment, not just mentioning stars.

I start with Shane Battier and Grant Hill (the later 3+D version). Who else?

Andrei Kirilenko. The guy was awesome-- versatile, played defense, had a few 5,5,5,5,5 games...

Jason Kidd. He talks openly about regretting his decision not to join the Spurs in '03 as a free agent. That probably would've added a couple of rings. Popovich has said he would've started Kidd and Parker together. That would have been ridiculous.

Jermaine O'Neal. Fucking Larry Bird lied to his ass and told him he wouldn't fire Isaiah Thomas, re-signed him, and then fired Thomas anyway. He would have signed with us in 2003 after Kidd passed if he would have known that Bird was going to fire his friend and mentor. Peak 25 YO Jermaine O'Neal to pair with Tim.

I always thought Battier would have been a good fit.

How about a prime Zach Randolph? I always wanted to see Duncan have a legit C on the court with him. Can you imagine what Duncan and Randolph together would have done to the league - especially with Bowen playing perimeter D?

No. He was an insecure little prick when he was first in the league, trashing DRob every chance he got. He also forged the Hollywood trail that LeBron eventually traveled. He never would have played in SA. He fancied himself a rapper and movie star.

Battier i agree, Scola when he first came to the NBA yes, Kidd i disagree, i don't like him as a character, Batum no, overrated imo even when he was younger. I would like young Chris Paul more than Kidd. I really liked Chauncey Billups back then as well, his high IQ.

Corey Maggette back in 2008 was close to signing here and then he signed with the Warriors. I remember people were so pissed it didn't follow through and we got Roger Mason instead.

I always thought Marcus Camby would be nice to play next to Tim and I remember they almost traded for him in 09 for Hill, Bowen, and Oberto? Almost the same package they used months later to get RJ.

Then we almost had Caron Butler when the rumors about the Spurs amnestying RJ were happening.

So instead they had to sign Marco in the summer of 2013.

After getting rejected by Kidd, the Spurs made an offer of nearly the same $$$ that New Orleans was offering to PJ BROWN, I think it was 4/32

It wasn't a great offer for the Spurs, it was obvious that Brown would decline out of starting quality by year 3 or sooner due to his age, but he was the choice before Rasho.

His reason for staying at the time was that he was from Louisiana and family reasons

And sure enough they traded him away before his deal was up

Basically every time a player stays for family reasons they end up getting traded anyway. Korver's wife loved Atlanta, traded before deal was finished. PJ Brown and his family? Traded before expiring. Kidd's wife and her media career in New York? Traded.

Yeah, Shaq the celebrity is a pretty funny guy, if not a bit oversensitive (his whole "RINGS" shtick with Barkley is old).

Shaq the player was pretty insufferable. And he never would've teamed up with Big Dave or stayed in San Antonio.

Gerald Wallace, Anderson Verajo (sp), Primoz Brezec, Eduardo Najera, Al Horford, Andrei Kirilenko, older Gary Payton. I think all of these guys either fit the Spurs character or playing style. Heard we were supposed to sign Najera but he declined. Stupid jackass

I really hoped Pau would have signed with us when he signed that deal with the Bulls. He was playing at an all star level and we probably could have made a championship run.

I would have liked to see Luol Deng with us. Going further back maybe Allan Houston without that huge contract tho.

I thought the Barkley trade blew up when Cummings blew out his knee in a pickup game when trade talks were going on.
While we probably get a ring with Robinson and Barkley, we also would have had Barkley in 96 when Robinson got hurt. With Barkley here, we probably still make the playoffs, never get in the lottery, never win it and never draft Duncan.

He was my dream player to acquire for a really long time (at that time), and with us, he would have had a Manu type of career. He played elite defence, he grabbed rebounds, shared the ball, attacked the basket, and made his threes or at least, he would have with the Spurs shot 36% in his final year, and around 33% early in his career.

Yup, his 2 sons, his mom, Duncan being his favorite player, Spurs being a winning franchise, him being from Texas and playing for the Long Horns all was a factor I think
