View Full Version : Spurs have it rough right out of gate

After 2 home games, the Spurs will have 5 games in 5 different cities in 8 days against some pretty good teams(4 playoff teams). I guess this is a good way for the team to bond....a sort of a foxhole mentality. It is a must that they win their 2 home games prior to this long trip, then hope for 2 wins on the road trip at worst and 3-4 at best.

I don't suspect we'll get off to a good start until Pop gets used to a rotation. I'm okay with dropping a few games early as long as we can come together to get a rotation that works. I fear the team is pressing a bit right now just through the preseason games. Other teams will be fired up to play us, so I expect a slow start the first 10 or 15 games.

atleast the spurs will have an excuse to start slow

actually looking at the games
they are all games they should win

dallas is the toughest team but they should beat them
cavs do not worry me. they have lots of new players and will need more time to gel

If Spurs won every game that they "should" win, they will be 78-4.

This is the NBA, the home teams win their fair share. The Spurs will do well to start out 5-2.

Granted, it's a five game road trip to start off the season. But, the only tough games there are at Dallas and at Washington (more so because it's an early game on a road back-to-back). Cleveland at home might be a little tough just because they'll be jacked up to play the Spurs and Mike Brown is very familiar with them. But, as someone already predicted, it's still likely a 5-2 start, if not better. That should be acceptable considering a look at the schedule.

You think so? I"m now too worried about it. It's not like they're playing the top dogs of the East. I expect 6-1

Lower tier Eastern Conference playoff teams mostly (those don't count when talking about "playoff teams"). And this just means we get more home games later when we hit our stride. Besides, there's only one back-to-back on the road trip. No worries.

--------don't be surprised if the spurs start this season really really slow, with a shitty record, maybe even slightly below 500

i see this team having a very slow start, slower than normal

mostly because everyone will be gunning for and gearing towards us, least of all because of fitting in the new guys and getting lineups straight.

We'll start making up good ground in late december.

Okay, wait, I don't get it.

First I keep hearing how great and powerful and almighty the Spurs are, and how they've already won the 2006 and 2007 Championships.

Now they're going to "have it rough" because of an early-season 5-game roadie?

Make up your minds.

Also, this is incorrect:

If Spurs won every game that they "should" win, they will be 78-4.

They'd be 82-0.

No, at Miami, Indy, Detroit and at Houston in their 2nd game in Houston, the Spurs will be the dogs.

If the Spurs keep giving up 28 points in quarters, they are going to have lots of rough games.

An early challenge will be good for them. It all balances out in the long run. And who is to say that those opponents will or will not be prepared to face the Spurs? I think that its all about the playoffs, anyway. Regular season is just one long tune up.

5-2 would be great.

4-3 wouldn't be so bad.

I think we'll see one of those two records.

Spurs have absolutely no reason to start slow. Why do you have to "tinker" to see what works when you just won a championship. Just use the dam players that won it all last year.

Jimcs50

Mission accomplished at home.

Now, the Spurs need to improve on first quarter defense, and just keep improving. The best player so far is Tony Parker. He has been simply fantastic in the first two games. He needs to ply with the same intensity on the road. I might be imagining it, but he looks even quicker this year than last year.

Lebron noticed this too:

"He's quick as hell," James said. "He's probably the quickest guy in our league along with Allen Iverson. He put pressure on our defense, got into the lane and made layups all night. We weren't able to come across to block any of his shots or even contest any of his shots. That's something we need to work on and get better at."

These are not your daddy's Spurs. This team can flat out run with any team, and last night they looked simply unstopable in their running game.

Coach Brown was shaking his head a few times after SA used maybe 5 secs to score on some plays.

"That separation is something they do, quarter after quarter," Brown said. "They let you stick around a little, think you can run with them, then they kick it up another notch."

Can SA run as effectively on this long road trip?

I can not wait til I see Finley play Dallas next game. Will he score 50 on them? :lol

Looks like the Spurs faired about as well as I had hoped for.

3-2 is not too bad.
