Ty Jerome
School: Virginia
Position: PG/SG
Age: 21
Height: 6-foot-5
Weight: 195
Wingspan: 6-foot-3
Draft Range: 20 to 40
Why: Fantastic decision-maker and above average ball-handler; very rarely turns the ball over. Quality passer, particularly on the move. Compact shooting stroke should transition well to the NBA -- likely a three-point threat on Day 1. Good touch from midrange and near the paint. Already has advanced skills in the pick-and-roll. Defensively, he's fundamentally sound, competes, uses his length well and rebounds at an above average rate for a point guard.
Why Not: Painfully unathletic: not fast, doesn't have quick feet, can't jump. It's unlikely he'd ever be able to drive to the basket and score on the NBA level -- he will always need screens in order create any space on the offensive end. Using his length was enough to survive defensively in college but would be hunted down and isolated against on the pro level. Might have to play SG on defense if he can't keep up with lead guards. Relatively low ceiling due to his physical shortcomings.
Spurs Fit: Wouldn't need time in Austin but could play there due to the glut of PGs on the roster. Long-term, could form an interesting rotation with White, Murray and Walker where they all take turns running the offense.
Spurs Comparison - Ceiling: Bigger, Better Shooting Jacque Vaughn
Spurs Comparison - Floor: Nico Laprovittola
