According to CNN (https://www.debatepolitics.com/redirect-to/?redirect=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.cnn.com%2F2019%2F05%2F 24%2Fpolitics%2Ffederal-judge-trump-border-wall%2Findex.html), federal judge Haywood Gilliam has ruled that Trump cannot use money from the Defense Department to build his wall along the border with Mexico. The reason given is that this is Trump’s way of attempting to circumvent separation of powers and find a loophole in Congress’s decision not to fund the wall.

What do you think of this decision—and Trump’s continual attempts to build the wall, regardless of the funding source?

He tried to get Mexico to fund it and failed. Then he tried to get Congress to fund it and failed. So now he wants to take money out of the defense funds.

Surely we need that money for the situation with Iran he just declared a national emergency? Trump’s priorities are … complicated, to say the least.

Power of the purse lies with Congress, phony baloney emergencies (hopefully) notwithstanding.
