View Full Version : Why hasn't Popovich produced anything since Duncan/Kawhi left?

Popovich barely made the playoffs the last two years AND he had stars. Popovich has never gotten out of the first round without Kawhi and/or Duncan AND he missed the playoffs his first year when he had David Robinson.

Because coaching is pretty inconsequential in the NBA.

Yep. Nick fuckin' Nurse is going to the NBA Finals because he has the best (playoffs) player in the East. Simple as that.

Because Pop is nothing without Tim or Kawhi carrying him.

People wouldn’t know who Pop is if Tim never played for the Spurs

30th in 3pt attempts. Embarrassing considering the fact the team was the best 3pt shooting team in the league.
He's a shit coach and was a laughable in game adjuster this year. This is what happens when Hall of fame anchors aren't there to carry you liver spot filled hand.

Yeah, I remember when Pop replaced Bob Hill (who was a pretty good coach) and I was like "who?" We're supposed to believe that he magically became a GOAT level coach 5-6 years later (after the '03 title, people were calling him the best coach in the NBA)? I think having Tim Duncan, David Robinson, and hitting a couple of homers in the draft with Parker and Manu had more to do with that. I'm not taking anything away from any coach, it's just the reality of basketball. It's a 5 vs. 5, high possession sport, where stars can play 40+ minutes per game. Whoever has the best players is going to win the majority of the time. That's true in any sport, but more so in basketball, since you can more easily involve your best players. Tom Brady can't do anything if the offense doesn't have the ball. You can't send Mike Trout up for 10 straight at bats. Hockey and soccer are too difficult to control possession, etc.

The hate on this forum for Pop is ridiculous. Well because in the NBA the team with the best player wins, not coach!

Also, if not for the refs or injuries, we beat the Nuggets.

I thought it was pretty impressive he produced 48 wins with this roster after Murray went down. I had this as a 38 win team due to their complete shit perimeter defensive talent. Calling DePression a star is laughable.

The Bucks were 2nd in 3PA despite their 2 biggest usage players (Giannis and Bledsoe) being 3pt liabilities. Budenholzer is doing a hell of a job with what he has. Made Middleton an allstar just like he did with Korver and Teague.

I'd trade Pop and those brain dead yes men next to him in a second for Coach Bud.
