I was thinking the same thing..Seems the crowd gave up on them long ago in the game...I also loved hearing how it took all nite to get the field in shape after the LSU game last nite....Get used to this LSU, because your going to have a year of doing this if they play on your field next year.....

The sad thing is all you guys posting are dead on, but Tagliabue will take that half assed turn out and spin it as a great show and want to keep the Saints in Baton Rouge for next year for all 8 games. I have a feeling even though LSU might not want them in there Tags might make them an offer they can't refuse or some back door cash deal to the School to cooperate. I'm sure they won't care having some shwoogies work overnight to fix the field up :spin

Hey girl, were they doing their usual booing they do???..I thought i heard alot of boos on the Saints, unless i was hearing things.......
Well, they had Ricky Williams to boo as well, so most of it was during defense because that way they could boo both and save energy. Seems the effort was being made by CBS to support the Louisiana angle and keep the volume meters turned off so we couldn't hear much. After the first quarter, I didn't hear much noise and by the fourth...well many had left. The signs really pissed me off. Forget the Alamo. Camera guy kept showing it.
On the news last night, I heard a comment by Tag and a quote from Blanco and LSU. Missing was a comment or mention of any kind from Benson. They ended the piece by saying things were still not settled, but Tag was going on about the Saints leading the rebuilding of New Orleans. Nothing on a facility other than using LSU.
No one really knows what's been going on with Benson and Hardberger. The lack of comments from Benson while Phil blabbered on is telling. They may have met, but Benson is smart enough to keep a lid on it until he knows more. However, the camera and CBS played this thing right so that the fans in Louisiana, who bitch a lot, got their glory day and now may prove to be insufferable.

Wait a minute...I have been told in almost every thread that I have posted in on this forum that our (my) priorities are out order and that I shouldn't worry about the Saints because there are more important things to worry about.
Now when 61,000 show up to support the team it isn't enough for some people :rolleyes
Not to mention that paying $150 to watch a quarterback who can't even hold on to the ball without fumbling it could hardly be considered worth it.
This team sucks....they are 2-6, had 52 unanswered points scored against them in G.B, Couldn't score a TD against the Dolphins who aren't exactly the elite in the league.
Oh yea and there were several thousand season ticket holders (reported by local news station last night) that could not even get in to the game because the ticket office was so swamped with season ticket holders trying to pick up their season tickets for Tiger Stadium.
I think 61,000 was pretty decent all things considering.

I considered posting this in the Saints forum so many of you despise, but I thought you guys might enjoy it.
So I went to the ESPN Club in Disneyworld's Boardwalk over the weekend, and the featured player that was taking questions on site when we were there was Falcons kicker Todd Peterson. The host bantered back and forth with him for a little while, then opened the floor up for questions. One guy, a Falcons fan, asked him something about the UGA kicker and then nobody had any questions. The host implored the audience to speak up, so I stood up and asked if he had ever had a chance to rekick a shank to win a game after a defensive holding call like the mulligan he got in San Antonio.
He was quiet for a little bit, and then just burst out laughing and told us a story about he was lining up for a fifty yarder to win a game when he was in Seattle and Oakland got thirty yards worth of penalties before the snap, and then he banked in the 20-something yarder off the upright.

Hey, we got hit upside the head when our San Antonio numbers were in the 59,000-60,000 some odd numbers. Turn about is fair play. LOL
Oh and if you spent $150 for a ticket, don't bark about Aaron's performance. You paid to see it. In all fairness, it wasn't his fault. IMHO, a Dolphin should NOT have been in his face on every down, behind the O Line. Haz should tear up the line for failing to cover the rush.

Well the $150 was for ticket, parking, beer, etc. You're right it isn't all Brooks fault, the line was terrible. But after watching Brooks for however many years now....I know he is not going to get the Saints anywhere.
Brooks should have the sense to know that he is getting blitzed on every down so he should call a hot route to one of his outlets....never happens, never.
It is frustrating watching Brooks every game and the comparing what he did to what Delhome did the same day. One of the worst decisions the Saints ever made (ok well maybe in the last 10 years).

I just wish that they would let the saints play a full season in San Antonio next year. I think that is the first step to San Antonio getting a team(not the saints). If after they play a full season here, New Orleans has been able to rebuild the city and the facility they should go back. if they go back to NO and it does not work out, then everything is fair game.
there will be no disaster the team will be in New orleans and then SA can go after them if they want.
However, I just think the leaugue should see this as an opportunity to test a new market and see what kind of support they get. they very rarely get that opportunity, they should take advantage of it when the do. Who knows houston may be ready to get rid of the texans pretty soon.

San Antonio has been smacked by LA Saints fans since the team got here. Maybe you didn't but others did. That's pretty much over, so whatever.
As for Aaron's playing, most QBs do what their coaches tell them. Long gone are the days of Joe Montana who had more options. QBs today are simply trained differently, don't pull out as many tricks as they could/should, IMHO.
I'm from Louisiana. I've lived here for a very long time, but I've been back and forth for many years for games. I've been watching Aaron live and in person for some time. I know the frustration at them not doing better than 8-8. And I know all about letting Jake leave. They didn't cut him you know. He exercised an option. And went to the Super Bowl. Amazing, right? Jake did well. I'm pleased for him. But, until Aaron has what Jake has, I won't compare them. It's not fair.

But we still come back, every year and love them all over again. And San Antoinio, you can not understand why we boo the Saints because they are not YOUR team and you do not have the history with them that we have. That's great that you don't boo them, but if you have ever been to a Saints game in your 20 years of being a Saints fan you would know that there has always been booing. After you've been let down over and over and over again, it's a natural reaction. It has nothing to do with how you were raised. It's about demanding results. We Saints fans have a right to boo our team if they deserve it. San Antonio can't boo the Saints now because they're trying to keep them. Once the honeymoon phase is over and after 30 plus years of disappointing seasons, we'll see how many cheers they get when they run the ball on 3rd and 20 in the fourth quarter when they're down by a billion points.

I think that's debatable.
Benson owns the team. But the NFL owns the game. They have only given permission for "The New Orleans Saints" to play in New Orleans. Benson needs the league's permission to play home games anywhere else.
It's an interesting connundrum for Benson, in that by forcing legal action on New Orleans (who cannot supply the necessary facilities) he may end up with no place to play (though I would expect Tag to blink before that occured)
exstatic
11-01-2005, 10:22 PM
Tagliabue serves at the leisure of the owners, and can ill afford to be seen as bullying one of them, lest they all gang up and Selig him. His role is really that of an arbiter, spokesman, and concensus builder among the ownership group. In the final analysis, he is an employee.
The Saints will play where Tom wants them to next year and beyond.

Wow. A few things really need clearing up.
#1. Turnstile attendance at Baton Rouge was 62,000. If you actually believe that the Alamodome was full for the Falcons game, it's still only 3,000 less. And it's quite a bit more than the Bills game. I was at the Falcons game and saw with my own eyes that it was maybe 90% full as reported by some. I'm guessing 60,000 attended that game.
Add to that the 8,000 free tickets that Tom Benson gave away, plus corporate tickets (Baton Rouge does not have any big corporations, New Orleans at least had a few) and Baton Rouge absolutely smoked San Antonio. Baton Rouge is maybe 1/10th the size of New Orleans and is an LSU town. Baton Rouge has a little brother complex to New Orleans anyway and many dislike the Saints franchise.
I do not expect the numbers to stay up at Baton Rouge simply because of the Saints ineptitude and the fact that many are still homeless/jobless and don't have the money to go to all four. Regardless, Baton Rouge still outperformed San Antonio, at least once.
And if you want to talk fan support... let's get in to how many empty seats were at the SBC Center last night. The stadium was half empty when the final buzzer sounded and was never more than 85% full from what I saw. On opening night, with a ring presentation, after a title year. Wow. Great job. You guys really are in a position to trash Baton Rouge's attendance. Not.
#2. Tagliabue already has "laid the smack down" on Benson. He made him play 4 games in Baton Rouge. He essentially forced him to sit down with himself and Governer Blanco and negotiate this past Sunday. If you think Benson is calling the shots here you are gravely mistaken.
If Benson were running things he wouldn't be running around trying to punch cameramen. That's his tantrum because he's not getting his way.

The discussion is starting to become moot. Unless S.A. can pull a new stadium out of its ass, like today, it's out of the running.
It looks like the New Orleans Saints are going to stay the New Orleans Saints for a while.
Now we get to see whether San Antonians pout.

Regardless it's pretty weak for you guys to be running smack on the Saints fans and the Baton Rouge fans given all of the will-call and line issues at Tiger Stadium, the historical support a crappy franchise has been given, and the fact that Spurs fans aren't exactly world-beaters either. I'm a Spurs fan too. I've gotten playoff tickets a day before tipoff for face value off of Ticketmaster.

Wow. A few things really need clearing up.
Enlighten Me.
So far okay. It's the longest I've agreed with you.
Add to that the 8,000 free tickets that Tom Benson gave away, plus corporate tickets (Baton Rouge does not have any big corporations, New Orleans at least had a few)
Still with you.....
and Baton Rouge absolutely smoked San Antonio. Baton Rouge is maybe 1/10th the size of New Orleans and is an LSU town. Baton Rouge has a little brother complex to New Orleans anyway and many dislike the Saints franchise.
Starting to get shaky in here, prepare for meltdown in 5...4...3....2..1.....
I do not expect the numbers to stay up at Baton Rouge
OOOOHHHHHH NOOOOOO!!!!!!
But all this time you have said that Baton Rouge and New Orleans can support it.....Have you finally seen the light...Welcome.
KILLSHOT COMING IN ......5.......4.......3......2......1.....

simply because of the Saints ineptitude and the fact that many are still homeless/jobless and don't have the money to go to all four. Regardless, Baton Rouge still outperformed San Antonio, at least once.
SO KEEP THE TEAM IN BATON ROUGE AND NEW ORLEANS DESPITE ADMITTING TO BEING ABLE TO SUPPORT IT. THE DAM HAS BROKEN.....
:owned :owned :owned :owned :owned
And if you want to talk fan support... let's get in to how many empty seats were at the SBC Center last night.
Funny, I didn't see you there in the stands. What section where you sitting in?

That Loose Cannon guy got severely owned. Another reason for empty seats at SBC is because of scalpers. I think the Nuggets series last playoffs you could get tix the day before. I got one for Game 4 of the Suns series the day of the game but that's because Ticketmaster releases a few in the afternoon. Otherwise you were screwed if you didn't get in the first minute they went on sale or were a season ticket holder with first dibs.
The real attendance test for BR will be the next couple of games after the novelty has worn off. Same for SA. At least LC admits that people won't be able to afford more games. That's a big reality for La.

Section N23. Southwest endzone, very top row of the lower level.
REMIND ME HOW FULL TIGER STADIUM WAS AT THE END OF THE SAINTS GAME?
What does that have to do with anything?
- How full was the Spurs game at the end on Tuesday?
- The Saints are not a Baton Rouge team. Baton Rouge is an LSU town. If the Spurs played in Austin and laid an absolute egg, and were down by 20, the stadium would be 4/5 empty. What does that have to do with San Antonio's support for the Spurs? Nobody is saying the Saints should play in Baton Rouge permanently.
- Despite your self-claimed "ownage", you aren't even addressing the real facts here. The Saints are #10 all time in attendance in the NFL. In New Orleans. Not Baton Rouge. The fact that Baton Rouge SOLD more tickets than San Antonio did for either of their games is just "lagniappe" on top of the fact that New Orleans has proven time and time again that it can and will support the Saints.
You haven't owned shit. Despite your little minions huddling around your balls for another taste of your incredible use of HUGE FONTS and disconnected logic, you did not make one valid point in your post.

I don't believe in the mantra of "he who has the biggest font owns all", as someone here apparently does :). Apparently I was owned by the "rhetorical" question of where I sat in Baton Rouge. I gave an answer. If that makes my friend here "owned" so be it but I'm not going to go around with my dick out trumpeting how much ownage I just spewed. When you know, you know.

I never said the city of San Antonio can't support the Spurs.
I said that the fan support is not exactly "rabid". This has been brought up year after year by the Spurs organization and the San Antonio media.
The entire point that you have missed completely is that anyone here criticizing fan support of the Saints over the years is barking up the wrong tree.

I would disagree with that...if nothing else look at the Spurs board in this forum. This is the same fan base that was there when the Spurs were bad. you get 400,000 people to a river parade for the championships and 5000 at the airport after a second round series win. As someone who has lived in San Antonio all my life and been a Spurs fan almost as long...I can say with much certainty that we are very rabid, very loyal fans.

Samikey, there are a group of diehards in every fan base. Even Jacksonville. Or Toronto. Those on a message board represent that die-hard, informed group.
Bottom line is that fan support comes up almost, if not, every year when talking about the Spurs. There is no denying that. I've been a Spurs fan my entire life and have actually had to defend our support of the team in the past to Mavs fans and others.
Anyway, I don't want to get into a debate about Spurs fans. Like I've said several times, I am a Spurs fan. Bottom line is that Saints fans and Spurs fans have put up comparable support for two totally different franchises - one great, one miserable - for years. The trashing of Louisiana Saints fans needs to stop.
samikeyp
11-04-2005, 01:38 PM
You are correct...although the depth of the loyal fans extend beyond the message board, I was merely using the ones here as an example. I was not trying to imply that only the rabid fans are here. I should have worded that better.
Fan support has never been an issue here in SA...although I can't speak for what happens outside San Antonio. In fact when talk of moving arose in the past...it was that fan support that was championed as a big reason to stay.
The trashing of Louisiana Saints fans needs to stop.
I agree...as does the trashing of San Antonians and Spurs fans. Except Hardberger...he has brought it on himself.

SaintsReport should stop bashing San Antonio for everything we do and are. They need to stop coming here to do it, too. People found out about SR and wanted to hang out with Saints fans, then were slammed, splattered, kicked, then banned. You cannot say them same has happened here...unless you came here to continue a fight that started there. You'll get words back at you, but you won't get banned.
So, now we know which teams you like. Great. You want to get along? Stop arguing.
