This summer's Spurs Summer Team will feature the new crop of rookies selected in the 2019 NBA Draft (Luka Samanic, Keldon Johnson, Quinndary Weatherspoon) as well as second year players such as Lonnie Walker IV and Chimezie Metu.

MGM Resorts NBA Summer League 2019 will be an 11-day, 83-game competition that opens with all 32 teams playing four preliminary games each. The top eight teams are then seeded in a tournament, which culminates with a Championship Game on July 15. Teams that do not qualify for the tournament will each play a consolation game. Every team will play at least five games and as many as seven at NBA Summer League.

Happens a lot. Last year had White, Walker, Metu and Eubanks. 2016 had Kyle, Simmons, Murray, Forbes and Archidiacano.

It's generally thought Luka has a higher ceiling than Keldon but for summer league and this upcoming season, who do you think is the stronger performer? I am getting more and more excited about KJ. Luka looked like a man among boys in the one game he played at the combine. If that wasn't a fluke, I expect him to play well in summer league. KJ is likely to be a player who feasts off good ball-movement and that probably won't be there during summer league.

You do get that Milutinov was a top3 defensive Center in Euroleague last year and has been starting in Euroleague for 2 years straight at 25mpg?
And he's 24 years old? And he has received a contract offer from Barcelona for 2.3Mill$ in a 3 year contract (that's including taxes so it's basically a 3/13 contract).
What he can and can't do is well known by now.And no,he's not going to play in the SL just so the Spurs can trade his rights.:lol

The most pressing question is can anyone earn a legit training-camp shot with a good performance? I don't think it can happen if there isn't a trade, but Eubanks might be able to make a push against Metu, who could move himself from near-lock to toss-up/leaning cut if he sucks it up again.

I've liked what I've seen from Blake Ahearn, tbh. The Spurs probably wish his forehead was a little bigger but I think he could get promoted to assistant this season. Summer league is a deceptively great way to tell whether a coach knows what he/she is doing. My all-time favorite summer league coach was Bud ... and that translated rather well to the NBA :tu

Ahearn was one of those guys who always had the basketball mind, but just didn't have the physical talent to make it in the NBA. You always hope something will click, but it just can't The Spurs shop for coaches the same way they shop for players.

Thanks for the update. I don't mind Roach, but I think missing out on Perkins was a mistake. The Spurs should have put him on a 2-way as soon as the draft was over, IMO. We'll see soon enough, but I'm expecting to have a big fat I-told-you-so.

IMO, my only concern is can Galen Robinson keep the ball safe in play and feed Samanic, Johnson, Metu and Weatherspoon. No Arcidiacono, but hopefully as good as Cotton.

Yeah 6’10 with 7’1 wingspan very athletic can play good defense and is big enough not to get destroyed by Denver bigs. Your right as far as his shooting his free throw was 51% his sophomore year but at least was able to raise it to 68% his junior year. Also he was second in class for rebounds per -40 minutes so great rebounder and defensive player type of player. Wow so unlike the Spurs to get an athlete I like and definitely hoping Chip gets to work his magic on him.

So far the summer league seems void of a small forward. What is it with Small forwards? Are they that hard to find? Where is Ben Moore, I hear the Spurs were high on him, would love to see what he could do? Even bring back Jaron Blossomgame. Need to fill any remaining spots with tall small forwards. I agree. The only game I’ve seen him play (it was the DEN RS game where the spurs won by a point), he was hustling playing solid D, while not forcing the issue on offense. If a 3rd stringer does that consistently, can’t really ask for more. He’s the typical off the bench, not very skilled energizer bunny that does enough to help his team any way he can. And that’s not a bad thing imho

I am hoping that they can move Belli or Bertans and bring in a good vet. As far as last slot I really like Ben Moore I know the Spurs are high on him so we’ll see what happens. I also hope that they allow Metu and Eubanks to battle it out for last slot. I think with Luka signing Metu might be the odd man out??

Yes, that's pretty normal. The Spurs' releasing their roster as early as they did this time isn't their norm. A lot of times it was just one or two days before the start of play.

I really do not think Metu has to worry about getting cut this offseason because of the need to groom a 4. We have Gay and Bertans who are legit ahead of Metu at the 4. Bertans may not stay and is not the best fit for now. Prefer Bertans at the 3. Unless Spurs can pick up a legit 4 in the offseason with more upside than miles and can contribute right away I don't see Spurs dropping Metu after putting so much work into him. They likely give him until year 3 to start contributing.

Samanic could make Metu expendable right away if he can contribute right away but it appear Samanic may not be ready for next 2 years. By then, LMA and Gay are likely gone having need for more young bigs to groom in the Spurs system, i.e. Metu. Unless Metu wants to talk and try out other programs, keeping Metu is smart. AFAIK, the jumbotron games are usually preseason games (not SL games or regular season games) that aren't televised anywhere . But the NBA decides to send the jumbotron feed to people outside of the US for some reason so people who stream those games are using an international LP account.

I'm in the US so I don't know anything about those preseason jumbotron games and their availability to certain countries. It would be weird to only allow certain countries access while others get shafted but we get shafted here in the US when it comes to preseason games so I wouldn't put it past them to do it. To answer your question, I don't know. :lol Maybe they use those jumbotron feed games to benchmark their systems and servers before the regular season gets into gear. Honestly, it's always baffled me.
