Bro, Tony Parker had been playing pro for years. Summer league would have been a step down. Tony Played early because he was a future hall of famer and it was fucking obvious even at 19. Not because of Summer League.

I am traveling and don't have access to the game but with so many saying LIV is a bust need to remember Murray looked pretty pathetic his sophmore SL.
Lonnie looks fine. Great on offense. He's fighting through screens on defense and getting up for rebounds. May appear like he doesn't show enough basketball IQ. Probably what people are griping about around here. When they have him play facilitator he seems uncomfortable(playing the point) and he seems like he lacks instinct off ball defending. But he is contesting shots and staying with his defender that are using screens. People are blowing things out of proportion around here.

I really liked all the rookies tonight for our Spurs.
Maybe Lonnie was saving energy on defense because he knew he had to carry the offensive load. Lmao. He seems smart enough to know he isn't gonna get run with the big team if he doesn't play defense and he even has talked about that being the case in interviews

I don't think that Walker is lazy on defense.
I just think he has very little native ability to play D -- his instincts are extremely bad.
But it could probably be overcome if works really hard at it. (The first step would be the self-awareness to know that he is awful on that end. I don't see that at this point.)

Main guys looked pretty good tbh, some quick thoughts:
-Lonnie looked like he expected to dominate right off the bat and was playing way too up tempo. Settled down and pretty much got whatever he wanted after that. His athleticism is off the charts and if he shows out in a few more SL games, they probably shut him down. Pretty excited for what he'll bring to the club.
-Keldon looked lost, definitely a guy that would benefit from playing in a system and not the free flowing SL shit. He'll be much better with NBA talent around him but I was impressed by his length and he definitely has some dog in him on defense.
-Luka looked as expected. The scouting report on him is that he struggles with bruisers and that was definitely the case. Showed a good first step but struggled against contact and physicality. He adds another 10lbs of muscle and he should be fine. Everything else was pretty exciting tbh.....the aforementioned first step, ball handling, good passing, and a really good shooting stroke. Defensively, he was pretty good as well, very good length and challenged shots when needed. Bulking up should help him defensively as well.
Pretty encouraging kickoff to summer league tbh......

Probably something to that. The Spurs players who have gone to the All Star/Rookie games have always looked out of place, while all the other guys showboat. I remember several who looked good playing with the Spurs, and looked like real dogs in those free-for-alls.
Pretty encouraging kickoff to summer league tbh......
And that's an understatement. Thinking back on some previous years' SL shitshows, this was amazingly good.

Lonnie was like 8/12 from the field. Once he gets defense figured out, sky is the limit.
Keldon’s defense is NBA ready. He needs to be with Chip as much as possible.
Can’t believe Luka is 19. Moves so well and has a shooting stroke. Weight room will be his best friend.
Murray, White, Poetl, Walker, Keldon, Luka is an awesome young core considering the Spurs’ draft range. Spurs may not contend for titles but at least we can watch these guys grow over the next 3-4 years

Luka has insane straight line speed for a big man. Its great to see him drive going to the left a lot, thats going to be effective in the NBA. He definitely needs to work on his strength... There is a lot pf potential there. I think he's going to be a star. He was out of position a lot on defense, but thats natural. Also lacked awareness when there was a loose ball.

Spurs may not contend for titles but at least we can watch these guys grow over the next 3-4 years At the risk of being tarred and feathered, don't forget Forbes. If he sticks around he is a solid young player and while he probably is moving to the bench this year his shooting stroke is sweet and his defensive shortcomings should not be as much a factor if he is playing against the other team's bench guys.

Luka was the most impressive overall. Very well rounded and didn't need the ball in his hands to make an impact. Needs to put on some weight though as he's currently a stringbean.
Lonnie's easily the best athlete. Scored at will in the 4th but looks completely lost and disinterested on defense.
Weatherspoon was a nice surprise. Could be decent value as a 2nd round pick.
Keldon looked and played like a scrub. Not impressed with him at all. Kentucky hypejob.

Been there. Done it. Recently.
It was 7 RB - the announcer just reversed it. The Spurs may have the best-rebounding group of G's in the league.
Lonnie was like 8/12 from the field. Once he gets defense figured out, sky is the limit.
I don't think defense is really something you figure out. He's too active on defense (not in a good way) and overreacts to opponent's moves, putting him in terrible positions. He won't ever be much of a defender, imo.

KJ didn't do much on offense, but he was great on D. When Ahearn got tired of Windler scoring, he assigned KJ to check him in the 2nd half. Windler proceeded to get maybe 2 more buckets the rest of the game off of broken plays. KJ erased him.

Yeah he looked good and played like he belonged. So far making Spurs FO look like geniuses when it comes to drafting. He has the measurables(6'4 with 6'9 wingspan), and he is playing like a natural point guard. He kind of sputtered towards the end of the game, but I like what I saw. I think he would be better defensively then Patty and Bryn but that bar is not to hard to surpass lol.

Liked what I saw out of shaman. A few times he lost his man on d, but it wasn’t too bad imo. Offense, missed some parts of the game but he didn’t look like he forced things. Some of those that he did Force were within the flow of the offense if that makes sense. Didn’t see much of KJ though. But damn.. Lonnie’s J looks smooth.

After getting Gay signed, and adding Carroll, the Spurs have 15 on the roster. So unless they trade Metu for another guard, this is probably it.
You can never have too many guards.

Well, he spent 4 years in college, so it is expected that he has a more polished game as compared to 19 year olds like Johnson and Samanic.
I also hear he has the athleticism too. Do the Spurs have him locked up in a 2-way?

Wow this game got me hyped! Yes it's summer league but the main guys we're looking at had ample time to showcase what they can do. Not sure if it was from Spurs brass or if it was Coach Ahearn that let our main guys play. I don't think we really care about anyone on this squad except the #19, #29, Lonnie and the 2nd rounder. Eubanks played about as well as i thought he would but we all know what the guy has. It'll be up to Spurs brass to determine if this guy will make the big club.
#1 The big winner here was Samanic. This guy can definitely move for a 6-11 guy. The guy has a certain way about him that tells me he's not going to just fall back and be the tall white guy euro not ready for the big time. From the get go you can see that the guy is very coordinated. That's huge for a big guy especially in today's game. I learned a new term today which the announcer pointed out by calling him a "grab-and-go". That alone can separate him from the status quo. Also the guy was not afraid to go at some of the defense and try to dunk. The bad thing was that he traveled a few times and couldn't bulldoze anyone in the paint. He should develop a fade-away in the post which would keep the defense honest.
#2 Don Johnson was a pest as reputed to be. The guy certainly gives the effort and if he can stay away from dumb fouls... can get some PT.
#3 I don't think Lonnie has much left to prove. Clearly the guy can play and is back from his injury. Will Pop let him play?
#4 The 2nd Rounder. Had some 2nd rounder type hustle moments but also some low pick type dumb-ass turnovers.
All in all I'm super excited to see what these guys can do from here on. Samanic (we need a better name to call him BTW) seems to be the one that showed the most in my opinion with his fluidity and semi-means-streak. Of course the inverse of all this can happen tomorrow.

I think LW can be A LOT better at D and not burn as much energy at the same time. Just stay in front of your guy. That's what the coaching staff is paid to do. It should get better with time. He does not excel on defense right now no doubt.
