Ok, Sato has come to a S&T deal with the Bulls. Some sources say that the 3 year deal has a partial guarantee in the 3ed year.

The PATFO should try and hijack this deal (although they won't).

Why it works.

For Sato, the 3/30 deal can start as low as 9.5 (5% raises annually) to as high as 10.5 (5% decreases). Assume 10/yr, and the 3ed year partial guarantee for $5M, total guaranteed contract value of $25M.

For WAS, all they are getting is a 2nd round pick (bulls or Grizzlies in 2020), a 2022 2nd round pick swap, and a minor protection (31-36, 6 spots) removed on the bulls 2023 2nd round pick that WAS already owns.

If SAS is willing to trade Forbes ($2,875,000) and Beli ($5,846,154), as a non-taxpaying team, they can take back up to $5m more than they send out = $13.7M. We can pay Sato more over 2 years guaranteed than he will get from CHI. Thus, our 3ed year can be unguaranteed (not impacting PATFO 2021 plans at all). WAS gets 2 expirings that eat minutes for them in this season, and they can move them at the deadline for assets. Both Beli and Forbes will have some value as expiring shooters... SAS would also have to send a 2nd round pick (or 2).

SAS obviously gets 1) Satoranksy - to my mind a significant upgrade over Beli & Forbes : doesn't need as many shots, better ball-mover, better defensively 2) opens a roster spot to pick up another big (which I think they will want to do), and 3) Clears up a bit of a logjam at PG/SG.
