I don't know how long I can stay on the fence between skepticism and excitement over the course of a whole year.

Probably going to be a shit story with good action like the original, tbh. Will watch in theaters though :lol

T:lolp Gun...one of the cheesiest, most over acted blockbusters of all time. Back when Bill Simmons was just coming into his prime he wrote an NFL season preview that contains one of the best scene by scene Top Gun breakdowns ever written.

My favorite part is him describing Tom Cruise's face when he can't summon tears after Goose dies...fucking spot on.:lol He's also right about Kelly McGillis.

This movie will do well no matter how bad the plot is(spoiler...it will be very bad). Like The Force Awakens, they will heavy hand the nostalgia and make all those people who were raised on Top Gun walk out of the theater feeling like 1986 again.

Sure. But that’s how the movies were in the 80s. Rocky III and IV, Rambos etc. Scarface, Terminator. Karate Kid. Even Platoon, as good as it was...there’s an underlying cheesiness that you can tell when it was made. Of course Tom Cruise means that a movie will be particularly cheesy. But no less entertaining to watch at the time.

It was just the era.

It was, but none of them laid it on as thick as Top Gun did. It's almost every scene.

Val Kilmer was great in the original. Too bad he fell off the wagon

Why tho

Does that even have to be asked? It’s always about money.
You can probably guarantee all the original TG fans buy tickets. Plus take their kids. That’s probably the baseline. If it gets any buzz and brings in some new blood, then it’s going to be huge.

As long as it’s politically correct and he’s not strafing Muslims, then it’s going to do very well.

They gonna have the trainies spar with live missiles again? That'd be super.
