Alternative headline: Multi-millionaire with multiple mansions refusing to pay his workers a living wage: The Bernie Sanders story

the commies over at Reason make this reasonable point:
Some background: Sanders' operation announced in March that it would be the first presidential campaign in American history to have all low-level employees represented by a union. The contract that the union signed with the campaign promises $36,000 in salary (https://www.npr.org/2019/05/08/721560528/sanders-campaign-workers-ratify-union-contract) (and full health care benefits) for the lowest-level field workers. The workers now say they are earning less than $15 an hour when you calculate how much they make while toiling for 60 hours or more each week to help get Sanders elected. But they agreed to be paid a set salary rather than an hourly rate, so the criticism should be taken with more than a few grains of salt. Maybe joining the union didn't quite go the way they planned.https://reason.com/2019/07/19/bernie-sanders-gets-a-lesson-in-what-a-15-minimum-wage-would-mean/

I misled that the workers were upset about their pay. Thats what I did. They want to renegotiate their deal.
Makes sense they're upset and they have every right to ask for a better deal: that's what unions are for, right?
Which other candidates' staff have union representation?

yea theyre upset with the sub $15 an hour deal they got from mister. #fightfor15 and its no big deal he pays them less than $15 of course because....reasons, etc.
once again this all makes Bernie look good somehow I'm just too biased to see it

yeah, well they shouldn't have signed up for salary pay if they wanted a guaranteed hourly rate.
lol calling the offer to cut hours to 40/week to get to a $15/hr equivalent "Bernie attacking his workers"
AaronY
07-22-2019, 10:29 AM
confused here..also they dont get overtime for going over 40 hours? So Bernie is against overtime as well? sounds like another non-issue just popped up
Its a shame Bernie's 2020 campaign is already looking like its over before it started because would love to deal with these non-issues for the next 8 months or so

more wishcasting from the worker's friend, AaronY.
Bernie its still a retard for going the union route and creating this monster.
He gets what he deserves for poking the bear. He should've paid them their 15/hr from the get go and stop this nonsense from becoming a problem.
The kicker is that while he fights his own union from getting their due, other candidates such as Booker, Gillibrand(:lol) are already paying their people their 15 bucks.

The problem comes not from the 36K salary nor the 15 per hour minimum wage. It comes from substituting salaried/exempt employees in to save overtime wage payout. Companies Bernie rails against do this regularly, even if at a micro-level. Manager A has 3 exempt employees and 10 non-exempt employees. His exempt employees are capable of doing the work of the non-exempt, but their job duties list them as having professional or managerial exemptions. Manager A decides this is an "emergency" situation, a button he's going to press far too often according to the Department of Labor, and orders the hourly/non-exempt worker to stop working at 40 hours, and for the salaried/exempt worker to fill in "just for now". That becomes a margin of wage/work savings for Bernie and pretending the agreement of 36K doesn't take into account that it represents a 40 hour work week, is just having your cake and eating it too.
In the end it's wasted anyhow, he doesn't have a chance in hell. He was cucked by a woman who couldn't beat an orange reality TV guy who was recorded saying "grab them by the pussy".

so workers agreed to get paid 36,000 per year instead of going on an hourly basis. in a 40 hour work week, that would be over 15/hour
but as workers ended up working over 40 hours per week, their "hourly rate" dropped below 15. bernie offered to increase pay such that they would get 15/hour, union rejected it. bernie then offered to set an hour cap to make sure nobody earns less than 15. union rejected it
conclusion: BERNIE HATES $15/hour WAGES

bernie should've spoke up for them at that very moment. he didn't, he let them work 60 hrs a week instead on salary minimizing their hourly payout like the true pos socialist commie that he is.

Anyone who’s ever worked for a presidential campaign knows that you’re working well in excess of 40 hours a week. The fact he offered them a 40 hour cap is definitely a more generous deal than any other candidate is offering.

I wonder if they were scheduled to work over 40 hours knowing at some point they are almost working off the clock or if they volunteered to do the extra hours. If they complained sounds like the former
