Surviving the Game is great. Very underrated film.
I can remember The Hitcher scaring the shit out of me as a kid and of course, Blade Runner introduced him as one of the most formidable villains of our time. We lost a good one for sure.

STG used to be on HBO a lot in the 90s, and I'd watch it every damn time. Busey's dog story ftw.

lol at a MCU fan calling other movies overrated
Bladerunner and Hitcher are the obvious Rutger Hauer classics. I particularly like the early movies he did with Paul Verhoeven(director of Robocop/Total Recall/Starship Troopers). Flesh and Blood is probably the most accessible being in English. A brutal film set in medieval Europe - lots of goofiness, lots of raping, nudity and violence(Verhoeven film after all). Jennifer Jason Leigh is naked in it quite a bit. Soldier of Orange is a solid war drama, kinda like a demo for Starship Troopers - about a group of Dutch college kids that get caught up in WW2. Some join the resistance, some join the Nazis. Turkish Delight is Hauer's film debut - it's probably Verhoeven's least violent film being a romantic drama.
He was also in a lot of sci-fi B-movies, some genuinely very decent for their genre(Split Second), others absolute junk(Omega Doom). My favorite of these is Blood of Heroes. A post-apocalyptic sports film where they play a primitive form of football. It sounds ridiculous but it's actually very entertaining. There was also that HBO film from the 90s - Fatherland. Alternate history film that takes place 20 years after the Nazis won WW2. Interesting movie but I've heard it's a poor adaptation of the book(never read it).

Just watched this last night and I strongly recommend that if you have fond memories of this movie to NOT go back and watch it again.
It's really bad. Most of that is due to the script and director. Interestingly enough, the director, Ernest Dickerson, has gone on to do some great work in The Wire, Bosch, and others.
But Surving the Game is just bad.
But, the cast is pretty amazing. Hauer, Busey, F. Murray Abraham, John McGinley, Charles Dutton. Ice T just does Ice T.
The best scene as DD mentioned, is Gary Busey explaining how he got a scar on his face. They fucked up making him the first one to go.
The other guys are great too but not enough to justify watching the movie.
Hauer is excellent as well. 4/10 due to the cast and acting.

I may not have given it a fair enough shot, but I couldn't get into Blade Runner. Maybe it's a time piece, like you had to be there type of thing.
