View Full Version : One of the best docs I've seen ever - the Jinx

I'm sure I'm very late to this. I don't remember ever hearing about this when it (the doc) came out although I vaguely remember the story in the news.
Fascinating 6 part documentary about Robert Hurst and unsolved murder/missing person cases.

Unbelievable. If you haven't seen it, watch it. But don't research anything about the story beforehand.

I was just going to watch a couple episodes a night but once I started it yesterday, I stayed up until 2 so I could finish it.
I don't know how I couldn't have heard about this and watched it sooner.

It's close to a 10/10 for me.

I'm not sure. It was put out by HBO years ago and I watched it on Hulu (with the HBO add on).

No, I haven't checked out LCU. I keep putting it off for some reason. It's good?

10/10??!?!? No sir. Drags way the fuck on. The ending is a 10/10 because it was so unplanned and gives an ending. You're mistaking a 1 in 1,000 chance ending for an entire series. Still a solid series, its about a 7.5/10.

Yea man its pretty good. You should watch it and drop a review when you get some time.

His nervous burp and blinking in the last episode was hilarious as hell

And the always sunny episode that spoofed that was equally as funny

Drags on? I never felt that way. Even before the end, I was thinking this is one of the most enthralling docs I've seen.
I might have had it at an 8 until the ending which clearly took it to a 10 for me.

Thought they did a great job of intertwining his past life with new events.

Yeah, I started to lose interest towards the end. I almost missed the ending just due to viewing fatigue (getting tired of it per se).

I liked Wild Country. It seemed just a little long but it was chock full of archival footage that helped make it worth the watch.

pretty crazy wasn't it? not that i want to get into politics, in this thread especially, but it's def a view into how a group of people can change a city/state/country into their ideological pov. a sign labeled "better dead than red" caught my eye however i thought, "this isn't about communism but...".

either way, very interesting. i saw a really good scientology docu last week too with tons of L. Ron footage i've never seen before. cults are so odd seeing how so many fall for their bs which is so perplexing.

oh, and pav, did you hear, "buddhafields", mentioned in Wild Country? "buddhafields" is the name of the compound of those in the docu Holy Hell.

Holy Hell is insanity too run by a gay ex actor who had tons of schooling in hypnotherapy, psychology, etc... sick documentary to say the least.

as well, all these people tend to end up in hawaii for some reason.

another good docu i saw the past week was The Woman Who Wasn't There and that crazy shit about this girl Gypsy called Mommy Dead and Dearest.

If you're looking for a cool documentary series that is really outside the box, I recommend the Hyper Hard Boiled Gourmet report.

The closest thing I can compare it to is if you took like Anthony Bourdain's show and put more of the Bizarre Food focus on it and weave in a gritty doc on street life in 3rd world countries and since it's Japanese, there's a floating commentating japense head that serves as some comic relief.

It's total crash TV, but so damn different but satisfying and gives a whole lot to the viewer and you see how much food ties a culture together. Highly recommend just for being different.

I still haven't seen Wild Country or The Woman Who Wasn't There. I may check out the latter as it's just one movie right?

Mommy Dead and Dearest was insane. I hope someone does a follow up on her life when she gets out.
BTW...in looking for her release date, I see that Hulu put out a dramatization of the story this last March. It has pretty good RT reviews.

Holy Hell was a good one as well. Can't believe that fucker was still trying to do the same thing again.

Looking for a good copy of the original Manson doc a dude filmed right after the murders with interviews of the family members. Some footage showed up on a Fox show recently and I wanted to go to the source.

The Act was great. Highly recommended.

Incredible acting that will unfortunately lose all of the awards to Meryl Streep and Big Little Lies.

yes the latter is just one movie and not a series like Wild Country.

i was mentioning Mommy Dead and Dearest to a friend and she said, "i've seen that but it wasn't titled that and wasn't a documentary". that's when i went online and found quite a few iterations of tv "docu's" about gypsy and her mother. i never heard of this shit before and just watched it for the hell of it. guess a lot of people have heard of them.

Holy Hell was so perplexing but so are all cults imo. i just can't wrap my brain around how so many can become so gullible. a friend i saw it with kept asking me why some get "the knowledge" and others don't that have been in the cult for yrs. i simply said, "have you noticed the pattern of who is getting "the knowledge"" but my friend couldn't comprehend the question i asked. it was clear just by the look of that cult leader what "the knowledge" was. :lmao

oh another docu i saw recently was Tickled and that shit was super wild and super weird.

i wouldn't mind seeing that. started a tv show lastnight called Mindhunters and the main character brings manson up in the first few episodes. so far the show seems decent but in no way is it a documentary. it just made me want to watch more on manson considering all i knew of him prior to his cultish ways was his folk music.

the scientology docu i saw was impessive due to its rare footage of L. Ron Hubbard. i like seeing actual old footage instead of dramatizations and i imagine you do too. :tu

Even Millennial Messiah wouldn't accept them as a birthday gift with the receipt as he wouldn't want to be seen with such low-rent shit fatherless inner-city kids use to cover their dirty ears on cold days.

Well, I've already told you about the (real) stories about the little shithead Mexican kid I offered them to for cutting my yard and that pawn shops wont give you shit for them because their shelves are filled with them. One of the few products Andy would be correct in saying are complete shit and not worth the money.

Lol. You’re full of it.

You get more base from a street corner hustler for $200 than you get from a pair of Beats. Also, you're safer walking through the ghetto with a pair of Beats on than having a pocket full of drugs. Nobody will jump you for something they can't pawn and that everyone already has an extra pair of.

Not sure what to make of it all. I guess I lean to the side that he wasn't guilty. Or at least guilty of everything they said.
