I don't think you get my meaning either. It's not whether people like illegal immigration or not, it's about how you go about attacking that problem. Demonizing, incarcerating, dehumanizing them or putting together a dog and pony wall might get a minority galvanized, but sane people know you don't need any of that show to actually tackle the problem. A problem that has actually been tackled successfully by any measure until this administration showed up. And that's largely why it's a boogeyman.

The shrinking middle class have nothing to with immigration. Their jobs are actually being sent overseas, or replaced with automation, shit isn't getting done here anymore, and none of them want to be picking strawberries. If anything, the rich are getting way richer, and are also pushing the rest down.

IMO, the "blue wall" is a misnomer, it fell in 2012, and only lasted for 20 years, not dissimilar to the red sea from 68-88. It doesn't mean anything more than both parties had a good run for a while. A good amount of those states in both sides were won by slim margins in either case. I'm pretty sure they'll flip again.

Illegal immigration has been on the decline for over a decade now (ICE numbers), and the middle class has only seen the crunch continue, or even worse, exacerbate. Relatively effective systems like e-verify were put into place and almost nobody uses it.
Why is that? How is that on the immigrant folk? Those employers are not being separated from their families, jailed, and sometimes left to die in prison. (rhetorical, if we're the exceptional nation we claim to be, nobody should).

The Rust belt didn't buy into Trump promises of immigration control, it bought into the promises of stop shipping jobs overseas and end of globalization. The whole idea of globalization stems to counter the exact argument you're making about flooding markets and market destabilization in general.

The notion of 'enlightening' correlates extremely well with religion and other dogmatic approaches, btw. It follows with a sense of superiority that's fundamentally flawed, as it's built upon untestable, rubbish claims.
