Without Manu:

SA 95 Denver 93

With Manu:

SA 98 Denver 90

Why the difference? The spread is 7.5 points. The barely beat the spread with Manu, and do not cover w/o him.

I will not bet on this game.

If you guys remember, the last time the Spurs passed out their championship rings, the Spurs barely squeeked by Phoenix by 1 point.

I think Pop should remind his team of this fact, otherwise, George Karls' Nuggets will poo poo all over the fans' celebration.

SAN ANTONIO (AP) -- San Antonio coach Gregg Popovich insisted that after the championship rings were handed out, his players would wipe last season from their memories and think only of the games ahead.

Well, the jewelry was distributed before Tuesday night's opener against Phoenix, and the Spurs seemed to forgot too much too soon.

But with time almost gone, they remembered how to win.

Anthony Carter's offensive rebound with 28 seconds to play lifted the Spurs to an 83-82 victory in a game in which San Antonio trailed by as many as 15 points in the opening minutes and led for a total of 46 seconds.

Beware!!!!

I hope Pop reembers this game.

Spurs by 10. Manu won't play. The Spurs will come out hot wanting to prove their worthy-ness after their disappointing final week of the preseason, will be up by 10 after 1st quarter. Denver will get it close in the 2nd and the score will be very close at the half. Spurs have a strong 3rd quarter and have the game in hand by the last 5:00 of the game. Big nights for Duncan & Parker. (At least I hope it goes this way!)

The first one is always makes me a bit nervous, but even if we have to do without Manu, I'm hoping that everyone else steps up. It's time to show the league that we are not incapable of repeating and the best way to do that is to start the season off right...with a win.

This will be good to see how the team play w/o Manu.If they win then Manu didn't deserve the MVP.If they lose then everyone on this forum will ask the question"Can Tim win without Manu?"
The Spurs are too deep to miss Manu's absence, right?? Will we see Manu in a suit?
Do you guys think Manu will play vs the Cavs??

The Spurs wll win with or without Manu. I bet he plays, but has limited minutes. This will open the door for the player of the game....drum roll please...Brent Bary. That's right folks. If Manu doesn't play or plays with limited minutes, Barry will go off.
I believe Nick the Quick and Oberto will have good games. I also believe we will see a fired up Tim Duncan who will go off. Final score will be something like 96-83 Spurs.

I'm nervous, fuck believe, Spurs are a box of chocolates. Remember Game1 of playoff first round!!

You'd think with the top 8 or 9 rotation back that the Spurs could pick up where they left off, with nobody having to learn Pop's system.

Will the Spurs be out-hustled, off-setting the superiority of the Spurs talent and coaching?

Wow, two of you predict the same thing. Since I said to the other poster, I gotta say it to you, you've got something that we have seen a lot of times before. That just sounds like so many of our games.

the ingredient to win the ring is still missing coach Karl.

-----------------------------------------------

The San Antonio Spurs will receive their championship rings before the season opener against the Denver Nuggets. Coach George Karl believes his Nuggets have a chance to be the ones enjoying such a ceremony at this time next year.

"I think people respected what we did," Karl said. "But, right now, everyone thinks they can win a world championship. Fortunately, we have the depth of talent that if we do some things right, we might be able to win a world championship."

Mavs<Spurs
11-01-2005, 09:38 PM
Well, the Chuckster and the Magic man know their basketball. They both agreed that the Spurs were the best team in the NBA both in the regular season and during the postseason.

Problems. Rust, not smooth.

Tim is having to do all the work. Tim is getting tons of attention, double and triple teams. Other players need to step up and put the ball in the hoop.

Parker seems more timid, but he is taking better care of the basketball.

Need better spacing of the floor, like when we were on our run.

Need to do a better job on Earl Boykins. Also, need to block out Camby. Can't allow all of this alley oops.

What's with the walk the ball up the court. We got lots of easy points in transition before.

Manu's injury seems to be hindering his performance because this is not the Manu we saw last year. Poor night for Ginobili so far. Maybe he will turn it around like he did in Game 1 of the Finals.

Shooters must get in open spots and take the shot if Tim is doubled. Tim must force a commitment to a double or take it strong one on one.

Mostly, we are just a team that needs to shake off the rust and get the fundamentals back down, get used to each other. Lots of miscommunication.

I like the time NVE is getting. We can all see that anytime he is on the court is a good thing for us (of course, every player has an off game.).
