David at 12
Manu at 37
Gervin at 45
Surprised they went with actual impact instead of raw stats, narratives and meaningless individual accomplishments. Pretty damn solid list.

Westbrook, Nash, Kidd, McHale. A bunch of guys Manu could pretty damn well be in front of, but, hey, not gonna nitpick.
I liked this part in particular:
Believe it or not, a blind poll pitting the per-75-possession stats from Manu Ginobili's 10-year peak against the same for Kobe Bryant yielded a 54-46 win for the San Antonio Spurs' super sixth man.

Solid list but Shaq over Duncan is a big no no, Bird too.
Love David Robinson but he’s a bit high. Probably 15-20.
Westbrook way too high, Harden also, Chris Paul wtf. Over Stockton lol
Durant is undervalued but he’s earnt the disrespect by taking the easy route. McHale, Stockton, Kidd, Dirk, Hakeem are too low.

Kinda surprised they put Tim at 7th. That's bascially the lowest position for Duncan that you could make a somewhat reasonable case for. Of course if you ask me he should be top 5 no doubt. LeBron shouldn't be #2, Hakeem should be higher than D-Rob and Shaq and Shaq shouldn't even be Top 10. Steph doesn't belong there either. Kobe is a little too low at 14. Still not too bad of a list if you consider how biased these journalists usually are

If they played under the late-90's rules and refs, GSW wouldn't even have made it to the finals. Karl Malone would have bitch-slapped Draymond, for starters. And before you start crowing about the long ball, Utah had three guys who shot over .400 from distance. But the way the game was called then, if a team didn't have an inside game they couldn't compete. Malone went to the FT line over 10 times a game, under those rules. He would have had 8 or 9 and-1's a game against a team like Golden state. And Stockton/Malone was the best PnR duo ever.

I got a couple of things..
They got Manu ahead of Patrick Ewing.. Uh no.. If Manu is top 50 he is maybe 50. Not 37.. Barkley is not better all time than Malone.. Not even close. 19 is way too high for him..
Yeah Kobe at 14 is really fucked LOL.. I don't get that one?
David at 12 is way too high. He is maybe around 25..
Wilt needs to be top 3 IMO. Nobody dominated the game like he did, in his time..
Duncan is better than Shaq.. He was a better all around player.. Won 1 more ring..
I also don't agree that Bird or Magic is better than Tim..
Yeah MJ is Number 1.. Lebron at 2 meh? I guess.. Top 5 for me..

For the most part, job well done. Sure, like any list, people will quibble with the exact order, but the key to these lists is to have players slotted into the proper range or tier and he mostly did that (Ginobili +9 on Gasol and Curry +5 on Durant are exceptions). I also like that he strayed from clichés (overrating 50s-70s players, Iverson, Thomas, Bryant, Olajuwon, underrating Ginobili, Robinson, Harden, Curry) and recency bias (Scumbag).

My God Lebron is overrated. Dude definitely should not be ahead of Kareem or Magic, and possibly not Duncan(or evenBird, Wilt or Bill R). Modern narrative has decided his only real competition is Jordan for GOAT and somehow that's stuck and now is being solidified without question. Sickening.
Acknowledging that Shaq, not Kobe, was the power behind the Laker's 2000's teams is the best thing about this list.

Yep. Not to mention the fact that when Jordan played, the refs would still blow the whistle over carrying the ball. And they didn't let a shooter leap sideways into a defender and give him a trip to the FT line. Steph and company can get space to shoot much more easily, and when they can't get space the refs give them freebies.
Lefty has been trolling this schtick so long, I wonder if he's started to believe it.

LeBron has all that quickness and ball-handling ability, in a linebacker's body. But he gets credit for what he could have been. Jordan was an assasin.
LeBron fits the narrative of the "new NBA". Having a King around is a money maker, and they are going t have one even if they have to invent him.

MJ traveled like crazy, no calls
Same thing on defense, he was allowed to grab, hold arms, karate kick his opponents
MJ and the Bulls got freebies too, time to drop your nostalgia glasses

Clyde Frazier is probably the most underrated player of all time, but he's still relatively unknown. In his peak years, he was arguably the best back court defender in the league while putting up 20+/6+/6+. He probably would've led the league in steals multiple seasons, but he played before that stat was kept. His 36 pt, 19 assist, 7 rebound, 6 steal performance in Game 7 against the Lakers in the 1970 finals (while defending & outplaying Jerry West) is one of the greatest ever, and gave the Knicks a championship despite their star center Willis Reed barely being able to play due to injury.

MJ traveled like crazy? GTFO. The guy had impeccable footwork and his moves were clean. I agree that he likely got a favorable whistle compared to other guys, and that he played defense illegally, but so did Tim (hand on the offensive player's waist so that you can guide his momentum).

Palming, carrying, traveling, he did it all
But by your logic, MJ couldn’t have played in the 60s as the rules were very strict when it came to dribbling

:lol Says the guy who still has fantasies of having babies with the 87 Lakers. That's not nostalgia or anything - you're just the keeper of Ultimate Truth.
I have to take a little longer view of things. I'm nostalgic for the
Peloponnesian War. I still have a little soft spot for the Crusades, and I'll even drink an occasional beer to the Salem witch trials. But being nostalgic about something from 25 years sort of makes me laugh.
BTW - everyone travels. And they travel about the same amount, depending on how the game is being called. When Jordan played, the refs would still call it - today they won't. Most of the new superstars need to be able to carry the ball for their game to work. Jordan would be even more effective with the ability to cradle the ball while he made his moves. Guys like Steph would be much less effective without it.
No... Jordan didn't travel any more than anyone else in that era. Steph doesn't carry the ball any more than anyone else today - he's just better at taking advantage of the current way the game is called, compared to most of the other guys. I don't know what would happen with Jordan playing by today's rules (I'm speaking ex-Olympia here, not as a deity). But take away the ability to create space with moving screens, and the ability to cradle the ball to make those crazy moves, and Jordan would school the Dubs. And like I said above, allow the physical play of that era and the Stockton/Malone Jazz would completely blow up GSW's game.

- MJ didn’t travel more than any other player in his era, but he got called for it a lot less than anybody else back then
- Steph has excellent handles; sure he travels when doing the Euro step, but who doesn’t ?
- Enough with the physicality.... they called a lot of soft fouls back then too... and it’s harder to defend today because you’re not allowed to hack your opponent so you have to rely on better footwork, movement , positioning, etc etc
Yesterday’s enforcers had jobs in the NBA because they had shitty defense so they had to resort to hard fouls in mid air

Have you ever heard about the "Patrick Ewing theory"?
My Theory is he played in the same conference and era as Jordan.. And if he played with David and Tim, odds are fairly good he'd have a ring or two..
During his prime playing at an MVP level he had 4 seasons with his best shot to win a ring..
92 record was 51-31 Lost in 2nd round to Bulls in 7 games..
93 was a 60 win season. Outplayed Bulls in Reg season had HC and were up 2-0 in ECF. Dropped 4 straight. Charles Smith in game 5 really choked.
94 No Jordan. 57 wins lost in 7 games in the finals to Rockets. Hakeem is better all time and outplayed Ewing. Still were maybe a Starks 3 away from winning in game 6..
95 55-27 lost in 7 games to Pacers, in the 2nd round, this was the missed layup game 7 for Ewing..
By 96 the age was showing and the team was in transition.
But he led the Knicks in a stacked east. And he got close. Bulls/Knicks/Pacers all great teams in the East at that time. Then came the Magic by 95.. Not like the turds Lebron played in the East..

And I’m not even talking about the Charles Smith play
And the East wasn’t that stacked lol
Knicks during the 1st 3peat :Ewing + grocery bagger and scrubs
Cavs : Uncle Joey was guarding Jordan
Pacers : they were a contender after the Bulls 1st three peat
97 Knicks would have beaten Chicago in 97 if not for the suspensions against Miami. They were playing the best basketball during the 97 playoffs
