It's confusing as hell already but I guess it's to be expected with the Lost guy running things. I can't think of a more densely packed premiere. I'll probably wait until the end of the run and binge it over a few days. Sitting with so many loose ends and questions a week at a time would make me not give a shit after awhile.

Based more on the comic and not the movie in case you were wondering. Sequel-ish but establishes events even before the original masks. A lot of WTFs in the world-building but interesting and things do make something approaching logical sense.

I never read the book but i've been told the movie and book are pretty much identical except instead of a nuclear bomb there's a fake intergalactic squid that kills millions, explaining the baby squid rain scene.

I'd say read the 3rd and 4th file,, they're quick interesting reads and you're pretty much set to watch the show, as they fill in gaps from the 85 book to the present show. Any confusing shit is confusing for hardcore book lovers too. Just like leftovers lol.

I dug the first episode. It'll be fun to re-watch the season on a binge. I think LOST was a total overrated abortion but The Leftovers was a masterpiece, so I told myself I'd give this guy's next show a chance no matter what.

I'm in for the long haul. Definitely getting Leftovers vibes. NIN are becoming the gold standard by which to use music to make even average acting and editing evoke emotions. There were some scenes I tried imagining without the score, it just wouldn't work. Overall a great cohesive show.

Didn’t like that the show took a stance on Ozy’s actions. Putting him in jail was a weak move writing-wise. Looking Glass’s arch started strong and fell flat, was expecting something more meaningful with him being the Rorschach of the timeline. don’t get why Will was absent for the end when he was the best character. Should’ve left Manhattan out of it or in the background, all knowing character like that has no motive to be mixed up in any of this storyline, and as a result Angela unmasking him and him getting caught was all forced.

but yeah, def a fun watch. Nothing stands to the source material in quality, but the Will’s origin story episode and Looking Glass’s episode were super great.

Maybe I'll give it another shot.It's a sequel (with a lot of prequel material) to the comic more than the movie, but the differences aren't terribly great. If you know about the squid, you're good. As I said before, the premiere is so jam packed with new and different stuff it's a bit overwhelming-- but everything does get sussed out in due time. For that reason it really is best to binge while you can carry everything going on in your head. Episode 1 is rewatchable for its sheer audacity and episode 6 is rewatchable for all the detail you could never get completely in one viewing.

I'm sad it's over bc it was a fun world we could have learned more about, more looking glass centric episodes would have been dope, but I respect the decision to leave it be.
