Saints wasted Ingram's potential, no?
How do you figure? He was a Pro Bowler for the Saints too. Ingram finally got in shape in year 3 and took off from there.

It was his own fault he wasn’t. He was out of shape and injury prone his first couple of years. And they had guys like Pierre Thomas, Chris Ivory, and Sproles who were more reliable.

did they? he had some good years for them, and kamara is an elite talent. if anything baltimore is underusing him considering the alternative is putting lamar at risk. gave ingram a decently sized contract to be the guy but his involvement has waned in recent weeks.
He had Adrian Peterson potential to run for big yards out of the gate.

At the time it looked like it, but he turned it around and almost became the team’s all-time leading rusher. Though Latavious Murray has been a beast the last two games, he lacks Ingram’s explosiveness.

ah, i think i misread ur post.
but early in ingram's career he looked like a bust, so i dont think it was in the cards for him to be a worldbeater from the get go. he then had a resurgence and put up big numbers. but kamara's talent was obvious and they had to get him involved too. plus you know with brees they were never going to be a team giving a RB 300 touches or anything like that

i still dont understand ravens usage of mark ingram. he's proven to be a solid receiving back too (has had three 45+ catch seasons), and for a team that plays as run-game heavy as baltimore, you'd think they'd have a big screen game. ingram has 12 catches on the year.
theres no reason he should only have 8 carries so far today, given his productivity.

It truly was a jinx because the Patriots didn't get back into the game with their play, tbh. They couldn't move the ball really outside of the 2 minute drive, and almost every QB (Krap Cousins notwithstanding) can move the ball in a 2 minute drive against prevent defense. They got incredibly lucky with not one, but 2 once-in-a-blue-moon flukes.

ravens must not think lamar is a a long term qb with the way they seem intent on running him into the ground. i mean its not like read options to the outside where he can run out or slide. he's running up the middle and taking a pounding, and they do that pretty frequently

RG3 not nearly as elusive as lamar, never was. was probably as fast a straight line runner before injuries. lamar combines wilson's elusiveness with prime rg3's speed. and he's stronger than either.

not sure about that... RG3 had legit 4.3x speed and he was very quick and elusive in 2012, gave the Cowboys and DeMarcus Ware all sorts of problems. Got out of sacks and gained first downs both with his legs and short arm throws. Huge nuisance. He probably would be a slight step down from Lamar at this point because he's played minimal NFL snaps in the past few seasons, but he's probably the best the Ravens could hope for in a backup.

Eh... that would probably be the best other choice, but Kaep has even more rust than RG3 though. It'd be an interesting dynamism, but I don't think they just scrap RG3 for him at this point unless RG3 retires or something. Admittedly, it was majority his fault for making such a big stink and then turning down some contracts that weren't the dollar value he wanted circa 2017. that's legitimate, and i think i've spoken to that point too. i just find it absurd when people (usually conservatives who know jack shit about football like darrin) say things like "kaep's not out of the league because of his politics, its because he's a terrible player"

Well those guys probably didn't watch football in 2012 or 2013, when he was 4-0 against Aaron Rodgers including dousing him in the playoff twice for 300 combined rushing yards and 400 combined passing yards, gave the Legion of Boom fits with his running between tight holes and that signature rocket throw back to the middle across his body on the move that was surprisingly accurate and the same type of play we all love up Mahomes for today.
He definitely wasn't terrible in his prime, the problem is that he wasn't particularly effective in 2016 (albeit with a bad/gutted shell of a team) and hasn't played an NFL snap ever since.

ravens got a huge call tbh... big question is why they are wasting downs giving gus edwards and justice hill the ball when ingram has been their best player today (1 crucial fumble though)
Edwards was a beast last year and had a TD tonight IIRC. Hill is there because he's a great receiver and probably the best in space (or at least that's the hope). One of the main ways to make a run-first/second team work is by spreading touches around as much as possible. In the same way you think Jackson should take fewer hits, Ingram is aging and doesn't need to do everything.

i hear you. edwards did have a TD today (ingram came off the field after his 50+ yard scamper to catch his breath). i dont have an issue with spelling him when needed, but he doesnt have the workload to justify as much relief as they are giving him. edwards hasn't been nearly as effective as ingram this year, and before today, ingram's screen game usage had been virtually non-existent to this point, something he was fantastic at with new orleans. even when kamara emerged as a weapon in the 2017 season, ingram put up 50 catches.
when the ravens picked him up, i thought in this offense, he'd be used a lot more creatively. he's still on pace for over 1100 rushing yards, so i might be being a bit harsh, but it catches my eye every time i watch a ravens game. ingram is already 30, and unless you're counting on a frank gore career, he probably doesnt have more than 2-3 serviceable seasons left in him, and the guaranteed money in his contract wont go beyond that anyway. might as well use him.

It's gonna be a balance between him running enough to open up the game and throwing enough to keep teams from committing to the run. He played well enough to win, but he hasn't really had a team commit wholely to stopping the run who wasn't the Dolphins. I think the Ravens would have a hard time beating the Pats if they meet in the playoffs unless Jackson takes another step as a passer.

I think Ingram was there to be a dependable jack-of-all-trades guy with a great track record. Edwards and Hill are both young backs, and the team has had a few flashes in the pan like West and Allen disappoint after having great opening seasons. Having Ingram means the offense doesn't give away what it's doing. If it's Hill, you think they're passing, Edwards, running. Ingram, you don't know.

Yeah, they've squeaked out a couple of games. That the remaining match-up with Baltimore is in MD is a real boon.
I didn't think the Browns were going to be good this year, but it's crazy how bad they are. I will never question Tony Dungy's HoF status again, because Tampa is pretty much Cleveland South, but for about a decade, they were a top team. Now that they're fully past the Dungy era, they're right back to being awful no matter how many good/great players they get or who their coach is.

Yeah, that second year was terrible for him. Fumbled, lost confidence. The life for a fringe roster guy is crazy. The same thing could have befallen Edwards this season had the Ravens counted on him to be the bell-cow. That's why they got Ingram. He was cheap enough to where they could afford him even if Gus had played well, but you knew Mark wasn't going to disappear. He's been even better than expected, but I think ideally they want Hill to become the main threat out of the backfield (besides Jackson of course).

Eh, it was like the opposite of the KC loss. Like in the Chiefs game, Baltimore had a chance to win at the end, but it really wasn't close. With Cleveland, it was a blow-out, but that's only because the Ravens melted down at the end trying to chase the lead. The biggest reason why the Ravens lost was because the guys they were playing (Peanut, Young and Jefferson chiefly) sucked at covering over the middle and in general played really undisciplined ball. They've been way better recently because the new guys (Fort, Bynes Clark) are able to play their positions and not make wholes with undisciplined play.
I'm not trying to say the Cleveland game didn't matter, but it's definitely a different team now than it was when they played in Week Four.

imo thats the real value of an every down/all purpose back. its not that they're getting 28 touches, its that defenses dont get queues. its also why the freeman/coleman backfied in atlanta worked so well. neither one was getting 28 touches, but neither one of them gave away the play call by their being on the field. same thing this year with breida/coleman in SF. its also why its refreshing to see the pats run the ball with james white every now and again

To your point, it's still way too much of a giveaway depending on when Michel/White are on the field. Michel is also such a shitty receiver that when they try to pass with him on the field it hurts their offense. The only benefit to the RBBC approach is that you can argue it keeps the running backs fresh, but that's grossly outweighed by the benefits of a three-down all purpose back.

I'm so fucking glad O'Brien figured this out about Watson before it was too late. He was horribly stubborn and wanted run the plays he wanted to run instead of playing to Watson's strengths. The short passing game is not only keeping Watson clean, it's setting up the run. He's also getting much more creative with misdirection.
In the first four weeks Watson was sacked 18 times. In the past five he's only been sacked 7. He was sacked only once yesterday and that's with two starting offensive linemen out. Whatever Watson said to him after the Carolina loss apparently stuck.

There are times when you don't care if the other team knows that it's run or pass. Gus being bigger might make him better in short-yardage situations. Hill being a dynamic play-maker might make him more effective in third-and-long. It also helps that Jackson is such a good runner that he can do well in any formation and that their TEs are also such good receivers. That means that even if one of the other backs is out there, you don't know what play it is.

another good RZ stop. Love that the defense kept their composure and didn't let the fluke Barkley play-du-jour turn into 6 or 7 points.

I don't see enough for DPI either, but with the way this has gone against the Cowboys, it is justified 100%.

the reward of forcing them to get a 2 point conversion isn't that big, whereas forcing them to score on 2 separate possessions is a massive swing.

i typically do too, but it think cowboys just wanted to run some clock, and zeke had been ripping chunks all game. he's averaging 6 ypc despite his longest run of the game only being 19.

you don't "run some clock" when you're up less than 1 score, tbh. Now you're up 12 so you "run some clock".

cooper does a lot of things really well, but winning contested balls has never been his strength. his route running and speed usually allow him to separate enough where its not a concern

Mara/Packerfag tried their best to pay off these refs. Unbelievable that that faggot beaner #71 Hernandez has started every fight, but the Cowboys ended up with all 4 out of 4 dead ball unsportsmanlike/unnecessary roughness calls. Wtf

Accurate. but a 1st round pick who is 6'2" 215 needs to learn it. I would expect Cole Beasley to not win contested balls, but surprisingly 5'7" 175 Edelman is better than Cooper at winning contested balls

shaky start for dallas, but they cleaned up. giants predictably unraveled while the cowboys played pretty solid and mistake free after that opening gaffe. not an overly impressive performance, but took care of business against a team they should beat.

good week indeed. raiders won, bears lost (we get their 1st).
next week is gonna have a lot of crappy games besides the primetime ones
thursday night is chargers-raiders
sunday night is vikings-cowboys
monday night is seahawks-niners
cant see one appealing game in the other slots tbh ... i guess carolina - green bay is decent. chiefs-titans? :lol

I know Monday Night Football hasn't had the best games or matchups, I mean the Jets and Giants are going to be on MNF more than the Patriots, Chiefs, and Cowboys. Even the Bengals, Dolphins, and Redskins get MNF spots.
But 5 or maybe 6 of the next 7 MNF matchups should be intriguing.
Seahawks @ 49ers
Chiefs @ Chargers
Ravens @ Rams
Vikings @ Seahawks
Giants @ Eagles
Colts @ Saints
Packers @ Vikings

Just keep handing it off. Fuck it isn't quantum physics. They just gave a down away when they could have handed to zeke again
Yep this was a throwback to 2011-2013 era GarrettBot play calling where they’d gash teams with the run only to waste a drive by getting cute and calling unnecessary passing plays

tbh Cowboy fans always talk about the Patriots and how they've benefited from a weak AFC East during the Brady/Belichick era but the NFC East has been about as shitty during The Bot's entire tenure with the exception of the 2017 Eagles. The division really hasn't fielded multiple teams capable of deep playoff runs since the mid-late 00's
