I really thought he would make an appearance tonight, and maybe take turn guarding nephew, besides that’s why Spurs got him for his defense. Is he in the dog house with Pop? Why bring in this guy and not play him? Anybody knows?

Good question. They have him for 3 years too.

Pop would rather feed minutes to Fake Stallone and the FIBA HOF'er...

Makes no sense why he isn't playing. Possibility is that he's in the doghouse. Either came into camp out of shape or had an argument with another player/coach.

Maybe dealing with an injury?

I’ll bet he pissed off Pop behind the scenes.

Feel like i'm repeating myself now but really weird that he isn't play, let alone starting over Lyles. He was signed to be a 3 and D 3/4 for a team that desperately needed one and he's not even playing. The Lyles experiment is starting to go south; he's a stretch 4 who looks afraid to shoot, its pump fakes and drives the rim only to pass it.
At the very least, bench Beli and have Carroll be the backup to DDR.

2 years, really, the 3rd year is a small guarantee that probably isn't going to be picked up, that assumes that he makes it to year 3 with the Spurs.

Felt like we would've heard something like that. He's been on 8 teams, I haven't heard of any locker room issues regarding him in the past.
Maybe dealing with an injury?
Probably would've heard that too, and it would be on the injury report- one would think.

Someone suggested before that it's preferrable to see what Lyles can do before we go with Carroll but to not have him sniff at least 1 minute of action shows he must not be picking up on the system whatsoever in practices or he caused some lockeroom drama. Even Cunningham and Pondexter sniffed some minutes after 4 games into the season last year. It's cause for concern.

Doesn't get minutes against bad teams, doesn't get minutes against good teams.
Maybe he's the new Jackie Butler.
Spurs will have to trade the rights to Milutinov to get off his contract. As Milutinov produces in his rookie year on his way to a fine career, Pop will once again pretend like he's powerless in the organization and remark how trading Milutinov made him sick to his stomach.

he should know the system from Coach Bud in Atlanta ... it is really strange

If he doesn’t get any burn tonight il start to wonder. The lack of playing combined with some of his body language on the sidelines has me wondering if something has gone down behind closed doors.

The fact the beat writers are not asking about makes me believe Spurs are not happy with him. Maybe something personal is going on that they do not want out in public.

With any other franchise that would make sense. But Pop has the Spurs’ beat writers so cowed the answer is simple fear. They are too intimidated to ask. I don’t think it is collusion. That would mean that Pop has taken them into his confidence.

That’s why I don’t understand why a lot of people here bash Jabari Young like he was terrible (because of the Kawhi situation) but at least he asked some questions a lot of reporters were afraid to ask. We probably would have been had a question about Carroll. These other reporters don’t want to question anything.

Jabari was just a toadie for different folks: The Group. His shit was no more reliable than anyone else's. He hasn't worked for a local outlet in a couple of years, but AFAIK, he's still on the Spurs beat for The Athletic, and can be considered one of the non-question asking media types.

If Carroll supports Trump, then no wonder the system is too complicated for him.

So you have no issues with the other scrubs currently in the rotation then?

He looked like crap in the preseason. Maybe he's hurt.

This. Even if you don’t think Lonnie is ready to take Beli’s minutes, it’s hard to argue that Beli should be out there instead of Carroll.

I complained about Pop not playing him after the first game. I officially apologize. This guy didn’t look like an NBA player. Completely lost and moved slower than Marco.
Great contract too.

Thought he looked decent, some rust after sitting on the bench. Had to be told were to stand on offense but mostly good on defense. Kept close to his man and contested shots.

He seems a bit lost but has the tools and should be a good defensive player once he’s acclimated.

Makes sense, he's a PF in the modern NBA and has played most of his minutes at the 4 the last two seasons. If Lyles doesn't pan out then Gay may start and Carroll may take his spot off the bench or visa versa.

Carroll looked too skinny to be a PF.
Not sure he can handle the board game from the PF spot.

He's not incredible on the glass but seems alright. Gang rebounding is why the Spurs are 4th in total rebounding so it shouldn't be to big of an issue. He's a good defender and very high volume shooter from 3, who can also draw fouls and occasionally attack the basket. Really hope he gets a spot in the rotation.
