Its laughable to say that this team lacks talent or isn't a very good team. They're 4-2 and have been competitive in the 2 losses with their best player barely playing 25 minutes a game. There's plenty of talent here and they'll be a playoff team in a very deep West with a ton of youth.

Imagine being so fucking stupid that you have no idea how to manage minutes/rotations so Dejounte closes games. :lol

Good news: we've been competitive against arguably the 2 best teams in the West
Bad news: DeRozan and Aldridge are our "stars," so this is pretty much our ceiling until White and Murray break out
We still have a little problem, lack of human material, but Pop "intentionally" harming the team is something I consider even worse.

He was fine. He got a fast break dunk off a nice pass from Murray and he hit a jumper. I thought his D was solid. Probably deserved more minutes.
I was just saying that he's been a rebounding machine. Tonight he scores, and he only gets 2 boards.

Sucks that we lost but was a fairly entertaining game.
Apparently this is the youngest team of the Pop era. Which is a good sign as we can almost hang with the loaded Clippers and Lakers. Not sure LMA and DeRozan will be around, but team could have a bright future.
The sooner LMA and Derozan are gone, the better. You can just see the hunger and passion from White and Murray. Can’t say the same for the former

Having a couple of legit stars on a team lets the role players play a lot looser. That's just fact. Those guys don't have to bail out DDR and Aldridge.
Well said. Real stars don't need to get bailed out. That's what makes them stars.

It makes too much sense to start Rudy and alternate Carroll and Lyles based on matchups (though Id rather just give those mins to Demarre).

He's hit 1 shot outside of the paint all season long. That's already bad for a modern NBA starting lineup. Pairing that with non-shooters like DeJounte (still streaky) and the Depression is laughable. If fucking LMA wasn't such a pussy on the boards, there'd be literally no need for Lyles to see minutes on this roster.

It's pretty sad when your starting 6'11" player gets out-rebounded by the PG and DeRozan.
If you go back and look at that game, the Spurs tied it up and it was LMA with his head up his ass that lost the Spurs 2-3 loose balls and turned the tide back to the Lakers. He was complacent for most of the game, but there was absolutely no sense of urgency down the stretch.

LMA frustrated me more than I can remember this game. We could have won that game. DD, White, Murray all had surges of points. Gay was given us a steady amount of baskets. We really needed LMA to be the rock of offense. He didn't post up, he didn't rebound. He was okay contesting shots. It was a bad performance. Their role players were hitting shots. Ours weren't, and yet with LMA playing like a turd, it was tied game with a few minutes left. FFS LMA.
Also, on Pop. This was game Carroll had to play. Our role players weren't hitting their shots. He should have played Caroll and Gay together, then let DD bully the guards.

Spurs were down 19 at one point and battled back, and honestly could’ve won the game if KCP doesn’t have a career game against us and Pop doesn’t sub out DJ with 3 min left (goddammit Pop). I give them props for that.
With that said, this game was frustrating. I knew Patty and Bryn would struggle tonight as they always do against good defensive teams with great length, as I stated in my pre-game post. I did not, however, expect Aldridge and DeRozan, our 2 Max players, to combine for 22 pts & 5 turnovers. That can’t happen. Those two have to be better.
I also didn’t expect Pop to think DeMar guarding AD in the post multiple times was a good idea. There was even one play where this occurred and it didn’t happen on a switch.. Ridiculous. KCP Having a career game against us also fucked us too.
Oh well. Onto the next one. Hopefully Pop is better moving forward, though I doubt it. We meet the Lakers again in 3 weeks at their place, which will be even tougher to win of course.

His defense has been surprisingly good too, imo. Surprisingly good IQ on offense too. I think he'll look a lot better when his three starts falling. Even if he shoots it in the ~30% range like he has in his worst years, that would still be a massive improvement over the 0fer he's shooting right now. If he get closer to the 40% range, like in his best years, he'll be real solid for us.
He's hit 1 shot outside of the paint all season long. That's already bad for a modern NBA starting lineup. He's still taking them and is still bringing his defender out. Don't think it's fair to compare him to guys who literally aren't guarded at the three point line.
I'd honestly be more worried if his shot was falling but he was looking weak in all other aspects. Law of averages says that his shot should eventually start falling.

Lyles is an awful player and awful fit in the SL. SA cannot afford a no offense player in that spot and that’s what he is. He’s literally just a warm body that doesn’t do anything positive or above average - at least not things that matter.
If you grade him on a curve it doesn’t look bad but he’s not an NBA player let alone a starter. It was and is an awful signing and most of us called it the moment it happened.
But Sa doesn’t have much of a choice with the roster they built. Sa has been content staying in neutral for a few years now. Not willing to rebuild and not willing to up the aggression to truly give themselves a better chance to win. It’s purgatory at the moment with several poor Fa decisions

Problem is Sa has been down double digits in half the games. So it’s not some noble effort to fight back; it’s a legit problem where they are not playing well.

I hope a white is ok.
He got steamrolled twice and that Howard foul.
End of the game he was limping around.

Six games in who's been good consistently?
1) Murray
2) White
3) Derozan
4) Gay
5) ???
Even spots 3 and 4 are a stretch. And like someone said earlier they're 4-2 with closes losses to LAs. Go figure.

They had the same problem last year as well and they never addressed it. Not likely to be addressed this year either. Like you said, PATFO are content to stay in basketball purgatory, which comes with being granted tenure unfortunately.

The new "Big 3" lead by Pop was 8-30 tonight.
Along with their usual nails defense.

-3 of the 4 wins were barely squeaked out (two of those being against lottery teams). The only decisive win was against a borderline "NBA" team.
-The two "stars" have disappeared against real competition.
-The two real stars have played exactly 5 seconds together.
-Marco is shooting 15% from 3 and is still a regular rotation player
-Their top FA signing in the summer has played less minutes this entire season than Marco played this game
-Lonnie Walker after being dominant and shut down in the summer league has been relegated to garbage time
-The starting lineup / rotation makes absolutely zero sense and the team is routinely having to come back from double digits
-The new coach's challenge rule hasn't even been thought about
-Dejounte is on a minutes restriction but those minutes have inexplicably been managed in a way that he doesn't close out games
-Derrick White who was referred to as their most important player last season plays a few more minutes than Trey Lyles on average
-Speaking of Lyles, a guy who has complained about practice and has been garbage his career is gifted a starting role where he has proceed to gone 0% from 3pt line while other guys on the team have been called out publicly for being non-competitive

Murray has a lot of fight in him. Almost won this game by himself. He's not going to enjoy playing with some
of these non-competitive/no heart dudes. It will wear on him eventually.

The 4-2 start is such fools gold. None of those wins were because the Spurs played flat out better and the only dominating win was against G leaguers and they could easily be 2-4 if Lillard and Beal made their game winning shots.

About that time to start bumping the Gutless Worms thread.
Spurs are a good team. They'll get a Top 4 seed as is, although probably first round fodder again. The ceiling becomes much higher if Pop stops being such a faggot with rotations. Big if though.

:lmao At DeRozan defending Scumbag, James and even Davis, while Carroll barely plays (why was he even signed then?). Not that he's the answer, but if you were to do a podium of all the stupid, irrational things we've seen out of this franchise in recent years, this is probably neck and neck for silver with Mills defending Durant (in a playoff game) and Scumbag.
It's embarrassing, pathetic and tells you everything you need to know about what's wrong with this roster construction.

Poeltl has to become tougher and to play with more confidence. Basketball court isn‘t the right place to be the nice guy. He needs to add some muscle and learn to shoot a bit at least.
Poeltl & White have the same problem: They are afraid to make mistakes. There won‘t be any progression until they let loose and make some *** plays instead of always trying to make the right move.

Jazz - ONeale
Clippers - Harkless and....#2
Lakers - Danny and....Lebron
76ers - Thybulle and Simmons
Heat - Butler and Winslow
Celtics - Brown and Ojeleye
Raptors - Rondae, OG, Johnson
Hawks - Hunter
Magic - Isaac, Aminu
Nets - Prince, Temple
Wolves - RoCo, Graham
Pelicans - Ingram
Grizz - Crowder, Solomon, Kyle, Iggy (?)
Thunder - Bazley, Nader, Roberson, Diallo
Spurs - Demar or using one of our all-D point guards in positions where they will be physically disadvantaged, as the coach would rather have Marco on court than use Carroll.
