Good afternoon guys. This is not sone troll act or anything, just my random two cents. I've been a member of this site for yrs now. I've seen Tim an his wife try to make it better an better , but the members are turning so toxic it's dragging this site down. There's no more great dialogue between people about Spurs related issues. Just a bunch of trolls disrespecting each other. Idk who runs this site anymore, but can someone do something about all toxic behavior?? Seriously I don't mean anyone any disrespect, an I'm sure some troll with make fun of my post, but I have to speak up.

Eh, it’s always been pretty troll-y in here. Maybe some of the more solid members drowned them out better when guys like you and I first joined but overall it’s always been fairly negative. So is a faceless message board. Just enjoy what you can and ignore the goofballs, even if they do now make up 80 plus percent of the posters currently :pctoss

ST has always melted down following losses to the Lakers, to be fair. There's been good discussion this season. ST will never be troll free like SpuReport or whatever it was called (does it still exist?) but there's legit Spurs discussion, even if you have to sometimes dig below the top level trolls, IMO.

It’s just the childish name calling and bickering like 12 year old siblings that I can’t stand. The blowing up after games and critisism of players is fine as everyone’s entitled to their opinion- but when the same posters just drag a thread down with their shit flinging at each other it just makes me click away from the site. There are no extra points for winning a fight on the internet- give it up and discuss the topic at hand

You've got to respect the fact that this site allows such freedom of expression. yeah, trolls are annoying and all, but i'll take them any day over asshole message board police. just use the ignore function.
I don’t mind the periodic trolling. It’s par.
But I do hate the multiple troll accounts. It’s ridiculous. Should be one account per poster. The endless troll threads would go way down.

Agreed but slurs, racism, and pornography make me hide this place from my kids... have had to hide signatures and ignore a lot of people. shouldn’t have a place here imo... say what you will but it’s hard to project an image of professionalism with the face of the site and features when the heart of the site is so toxic...
the features are really a great pitch and the content is exceptional, I just doubt people stay when they see the forums... unless all you want is the view, then it should be fine

I appreciate an unmoderated or lightly moderated forum. But the racist and homophobic stuff has got to go. It sure seems like you’re making an honest push to move this site up another notch or two but I don’t see this place reaching the level you want it to reach when anyone “not in the know” opens this forum up to extreme homophobia, attacks of sexual orientation and outright racism.
I think there’s some middle ground you should consider. We can still have free and open dialogue without the hardcore bigotry.
On a scale of 1-10 if your moderating at a 1 move it to a 3. Which is more latitude than 90% of other forums out there. I’m certain participation will rise. Quality participation carries far more value than someone having the freedom to call someone else a bunch of racist slurs.

All we really need is the ability to ignore posters and hide their quotes too. Make them completely disappear. This should extend to hiding threads started by ignored posters. Then if someone says enough stupid stuff, they just get ignored by everyone. Community ban, in effect.
But yeah, you have a point. The level of discourse has certainly gone downhill. It's like some people don't know what it's like to support a team that isn't way above average.

It is crazy how much negativity is on this site sometimes... and its not just after a loss to the Lakers either.
I don't know what could be done about it though other than more bans but they would only make alts so it doesn't matter in the end. I do feel that the site does lose some credibility though when it has a toxic community.
But seriously if it wasn't for some of these trolls though the site would be dead lol. Who would y'all endlessly argue against?

It's not that. The problem is them no longer being that caliber of team is self inflicted/they were screwed to an unprecedented degree.
If they had either a 6th championship or the assets they should have and modernized their approach some, I think most would be fine with the direction, no matter the record.

ST by far has the most knowledgeable Spurs fans on the net. Sure, some trolls are annoying but it's pretty easy to spot them and ignore them. You want this to turn into a Reddit style circle jerk? I got banned for saying Mills is a no defense playing bum. Is that a lie?

So what? Is the solution really to just keep beating the dead horse?
Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it. It's the incessant complaining, the same thing over and over, which is driving this board into the gutter. Believe it or not, it's possible to say some positive things about the players and coaching staff, every single one of them.
If they had either a 6th championship or the assets they should have and modernized their approach some, I think most would be fine with the direction, no matter the record.
The 5 championships they have evidently aren't enough, why would a 6th matter?
What kind of assets "should" the team have had? We can never know what the Spurs were truly offered for Number Two.
The Spurs finished 7th in ORtg last season despite being dead last in 3 point rate.
And yet, here we are.

It's hard to focus on anything else when you just keep coming back to the fact that they have no business being in the situation they're in.
Professional sports is essentially fantasy land and the percentage is closer to the other way around.
Because they could have had a 6th by holding onto Scumbag when they got pathetic offers. The Warriors were due for mileage to catch up and injury to strike and they'd have been best position to capitalized.
Basically every superstar/star who wanted out recently, their team did well in the end. The one who didn't is the one who supposedly had (I'd argue Davis is at least equal) the best player. They should have received at least what the Pelicans did for Davis.
And? It was always going to be fools gold. The bracket broke perfectly and so did the first half of the series, only for them to piss it away anyway.

You think neph would have played for us last year more than 25 games? He would have sat out and made everyone miserable, even you already miserable insufferable "fans."
Try looking at the Spurs run as something to be appreciated rather than defecated upon. That's not to say everything is sunshine and rose petals. But your first inclination should not to be to torch the thing down. This team has achieved unparalleled success in sports history. Good thing you aren't a "fan" of another team like the 76ers or even Celtics or Lakers.

I do. It's easy to say in the off season that he wouldn't have, but ultimately he'd have had no choice. He wouldn't have got paid if he didn't report and he'd have thrown another prime season in the garbage and done irreparable damage to his precious reputation/"brand"/"legacy".
What does that have to do with the current predicament they find themselves in? Let's not act like they're blameless in it. From the archaic style/way they operate to the infamous trade itself; no one had a gun to their head forcing them to do it.
A real fan is willing to criticize their team . . . even if it upsets you apologists.

Whats the point of coming to this forum right now? I mean really? I come out of habit and to read LJ's posts, but really other the stuff he posts there's not much that's good about this site. There are a few other posters who put thoughts into what they post, but its a handful at best. During the offseason a few people post insider nuggets and thats nice too.
Its gotten to where other teams fans respect the Spurs more than the fans posting on this site do. I don't get what some of you enjoy about being so miserable that most of your posts are mocking certain parts of the team. Some of you never actually display anything normal people would consider fandom. I understand thinking that certain players are below average, but at the end of the day they're on the team you're rooting for and they're going to be there so why spend your entire time being miserable about them?
This site has always had plenty of trolling. But back in the day, it wasn't Spurs fans being toxic fucks torwards their own players but rather Mavs fans, Lakers fans, Suns fans, and other "rivals" that would come here and talk shit. Sometimes people would hate on certain players such as Richard Jefferson and Steve Smith but NOTHING like the level of bitching people have now for some of the better players on this team. At some point it just gets fucking insufferable.
Maybe i'm just getting old; thats certainly part of it. But honestly, a larger portion is definitely that there are just too many vocal miserable fucks on this site to make it worth spending all that much time here. I think its a good thing you've put the grades off the forum, LJ, because its good content but anyone coming to see them at least doesn't have to see a bunch of these dipshits who add nothing spewing their bullshit.

:lol Beautiful!
If the price of getting rid of the trolls is homogenizing ST like 99% of the rest of the internet, I don't want any part of it.
I know this much - if I want to get Spurs information, this is the place I go. Tim becoming an assistant? Wondering if Derrick White was injured badly after that fall? Are the Spurs eyeballing some European prospect? Good luck finding as much information anywhwere else.
Recently, TIM has been writing some first-quality articles for the ST home page. So it's possible to go there for "pure" info, and then come here and sift through the troll poop to find other information. There's a lot of history and a lot of humor here. Admittedly, it's the Wild West, and not everyone enjoys the Wild West. But the people who do need a place to go, too.
But if anyone thinks it's really that different than in the deep, dark past, go find some old archived threads. If anything, the trolls were harder to recognize.

:lol tbh. All these old school GTG faggots need to hop on over to the Spurs reddit where they’ll find more comfort in fans that praise Patty Mills for his coffee buying abilities while us over here don’t sugar coat these losers who are just playing for paychecks and don’t really care for the fans themselves.

You can still find discussions in a lot of posts and with certain posters. Sometimes I'll read certain posts and get educated, but most of the time I just come here to complain about the team or get hyped about the team. There are some pretty sad attempts at trolls too, which are actually hilarious.

It’s just the childish name calling and bickering like 12 year old siblings that I can’t stand. The blowing up after games and critisism of players is fine as everyone’s entitled to their opinion- but when the same posters just drag a thread down with their shit flinging at each other it just makes me click away from the site. There are no extra points for winning a fight on the internet- give it up and discuss the topic at hand
i forgot to mention just how much I appreciate the basketball analysis here though- for a true Spurs fan there isn’t anywhere else to find the experience and quality of quite a few of the posters around here. I remember years ago being at Spursreport- this here is levels above in quality. So kudos to those who discuss Bball, and a big thanks to TimVP and Kori for their quality pieces.

If you're looking for a safe space where Spurs fans circlejerk one another about how awesome the team is, you can hop on over to the Spurs reddit page. Any criticism of the team is frowned upon over there. Oh yeah, you're not allowed to say a negative thing about Demar either. Prepare for numerous downvotes if you dare say something derogatory about his game.

Bruh welcome to 2008 when the Ellis clan let certain people run amok unchecked for countless racist toxic bannable posts.

This is a weird thread. There's a few autists in the political forum that are mucking up the place with their constant shot posting. But the overall level of trolling has gone down imho. It's way less trollish than ST circa 2006-2010
This is true to. 9/10 posts was racist trollish crap in that time frame. Then ST got hollowed out and became a dead husk. Now it's trending better somewhat.

Lately there is very little basketball discussion, in fact. The vast majority of comments and posts are insults without any insight on the actual game played (or not) by the Spurs. It is a pity, because there are posters who understand the game and/or have solid opinions on it and offer factual observations. They are worth discussing, that's why I come here, but it is getting more difficult given the hate of some losers.

ST by far has the most knowledgeable Spurs fans on the net. Sure, some trolls are annoying but it's pretty easy to spot them and ignore them. You want this to turn into a Reddit style circle jerk? I got banned for saying Mills is a no defense playing bum. Is that a lie?
Did you clarify your Reddit post with "(no racist) (no homo)"?

LJ and wife Kori pretty much let this site go completely unregulated for years. People took advantage of their leniency and it got pretty raunchy and stupid. The redeeming thing was that the analysis of the players was sometimes very good if you got beyond the fanboy posts. Despite all the respect around the league and from knowledgeable fans across the country for Pop and the FO for presenting a quality product year after year in a very down market town, there has always been an unreasonable amount of disrespect for them despite winning 5 championships and setting records for appearances in the playoffs and 50 win seasons. Even the obvious affection from the team and the Big Three for Pop and the Spurs doesn't distract from their storm and fury. Go figure.
I think the decision by LJ and Kori to bring this site into a for-profit posture after all these years will eventually bring in more people, especially women, who love to talk Spurs and don't need all the other junk. But you may have ST members who just want to drive those folks away so they can control the dialogues. We'll see.

ST has always melted down following losses to the Lakers, to be fair. There's been good discussion this season. ST will never be troll free like SpuReport or whatever it was called (does it still exist?) but there's legit Spurs discussion, even if you have to sometimes dig below the top level trolls, IMO.

Maybe I'm just a butthurt old Spurs fan going from Ginobili(my favorite Spur of all time), Tony, an Timmy to Derozan, Patty, and LaMarcus. There's been nothing to be excited about for awhile so when I come here to what I see as fellow Spurs fans, its nothing but racism, homophobic, toxic behavior. Yes I ignore it, but when you read through post an most of it is all that, you kinda just say fuck it an leave. I mean I'm definitely not the one to try an be politically correct or anything, but it's that bad that even my goofy ass notices it.

I like the idea that the mods pretty much let things go and they are more traffic controllers, making sure Spurs related stuff is here and politics is somewhere else.
But in saying that, 'I hope DD kills himself,' comments is beyond low and I hope more posters call them out for it.

ST is basically more than 50% trash posts (and that's a generous estimate), but there are still a few solid posters who contribute some meaningful takes or solid humor.

LMAO. Sturgeon's Law.
A famous author (Theodore Sturgeon) was asked by a reporter, "How can you write science fiction? Isn't ninety percent of it crap?"
To which Sturgeon replied, "Yes it is... but then, ninety percent of everything is crap."
If half of the posts on ST are crap it's way, way ahead of most of the Internet. And pretty much everything else.

as stated, it was a generous estimate; the real point being that most of the content on this site sucks, but there's still enough to keep it worth my time. but if those handful of decent posters left, this place would be total crap.

ikr. Funny how all of these threads end up being 50% random complaints about apo spam threads (or some other troll -- dabom, etc), and the other 50% is old heads complaining about how GNSFs/NASFs cyber bully. Then there's the filter the trolls using the ignore button comments, and the trolls that insta-reply to those comments.
