:cry Kittle
Best tight end in the NFL.

Kelce is the runner up but he wouldn't have scored there, likely would have been stopped around the 10. Kittle has legit WR speed.

So the strategy for the Packers defense is to not defend the best receiver (TE) on the 49ers' roster. Got it. The Packers are screwed.

And they're still going to lose. Haha.

49ers have been just such a well composed team all season long. I'd be happy if they won the championship this year, tbh. As long as it's not New England.

like, it's 10pm, I'm still upset about the way that game ended but it is what it is at this point, and I'm happy about how the night game went, so I'm definitely not skipping work or anything lol.

Cowboys are still gonna win that division, pretty much a guaranteed playoff birth because have you seen how bad the Eagles offense has been? so the team, with a lot of free agents to be including the QB1, HC, WR1 and CB1, will be ultimately judged on how they do in the playoffs.

:lol Belichick mindfucking The Bot on that back-to-back punting penalty sequence was hilarious. First, they run the strange formation where nobody was back to receive it....Bot gets confused and just takes a delay of game. Then the Pats do it again and the Cowboys clumsily rush their gunners in to block but get an illegal shift and march it back another five yards.

problem for minnesota is if they lose in seattle next week almost impossible to win the division even if they beat the packers Week 16.

Yah on second thought I think it kinda isn't even close. Those 3-straight NFC Title Game Niners are underrated in historical sense. Almost very much so. But that is what occurs with average QB play.

How many offensive players from 2019 start on the 2011 or 2012 team? Jimmy obviously but Kittle isn't an enormous upgrade over Vernon & Walker. Even at FB Miller was pro bowl caliber.

Defensively as spurraiderer mentioned the physicality - Whitner. I haven't watched enough 49er games recently to fully comment but seems Donte, Goldson and Rogers are tough to beat in comparison. But that secondary was over-powered against the run and struggled against Eli and Flacco.

In hindsight how ironic that the team that actually broke thru into the SB was the weakest W-L at 11-5-1

Maybe underrated edge - Shanahan over Harbaugh? Kyle seems far more innovative while Jim was focused on installing an attitude & confidence

spurraider21

Dline is better now whereas the LB's were better in 2012. Niners Dline has more sacks now, collectively, than the 12' Dline had in the entire season. This years D also already has more sacks (39) than the entire 12' team had over the full season (38.) Shanahan > Harbaugh. RBBC > Gore. Kittle > VD. Jimmy > Kunta Kinte. 12' Oline > 19'. 19' Secondary (11 picks so far) > 12' (14 total). Defensive scheme is better this year, too. Niners usually rush 4 and drop everyone else back. In 12' it was a 3-4 and functioned a lot differently. Finally, the 19' team has already forced more fumbles (16) than the 12' team did (14.)

So yeah, on paper and the eye test I think this year is better. However, the NFC is much stronger this season and the Niners may not even win a playoff game, much less make the SB. Also, running Qbs are their kryptonite. Be very interesting to see if Saleh has learned anything from Kyler Murray and, to a lesser extent, RW running all over the place against them. They play the Ravens next week. Lamar reminds me a lot of Kraep, and even has Greg Roman as his OC. Roman was also the OC in 12'. I expect Lamar to crash and burn in the same way as BLM did as his career goes on.

Edit: Roman was the Niner OC in 12'.

2019 offense is cleaner, better executing than 2011 had. as robz said, the reliability of frank gore was nice, esp running behind staley and prime iupati. but its not like we've really seen the niners struggling getting that yard. juszczyk and kittle are elite blockers in their own right (so was vernon).

ed lover points out that this D struggles with running qb's but thats where the linebackers i i brought up would come in handy. i just said their front was more physical back in 2011, not that the team was better top to bottom

Agree about the LB's. 3-4 is much better at containing that type of threat. I still disagree about the physical take. In a 3-4 all those guys really need to do up front is occupy blockers and space, while the LB's make the plays. Remember that Aldon was an outside LB in that scheme rather than a classic edge rusher. While he would occasionally get down in a 3 point stance, he was mostly upright and would move from side to side depending on the situation. I actually had to go and look up the names of the Niner front 3 that year. Isaac Sopoaga, Ray McDonald, and Justin Smith. Smith was definitely nasty, but the other guys were just there to be fat and take up space. Smith had also lost a step by then and wasn't what he was. Imo, you can't say they were more physical when this years bunch is so much more productive. They fuckin eat Olines alive. Bosa has 7 sacks. Armstead has 8. Dee Ford has 6.5 (and didn't play last night,) while Buckner has 5. Who do you double? It's the best Dline in the NFL, hands down. Bosa absolutely trucked that poor RT twice last night, and they made ARod look old and slow... While blitzing on maybe 10% of the plays, if not less. If they stay healthy and stay together they have the potential to be all time great.

Nobody has contained them, only tricked them. Kingsbury and his faggot gimmick offense, which does all kinds of misdirection stuff, along with their midget, overrated QB, were perfect for the overly aggressive Niner D. I'll give him credit for exploiting them. Twice. Seahawks also did well, so the template is there. Screens, quick releases, misdirection, and good ole unpredictable ninja ball where the QB does some athletic, Serengeti type shit, can exploit this. Which is why the Ravens game is must see TV. I actually think the Ravens will win, tbh. Early, east coast start plus Lamar might be too much unless the Niners get out in front> Think Saleh has to blitz a lot more, particularly from the edge, if the Niners want to win.

Niner initial push is as good as I've seen in a while. All four of those guys were often 2-3 yards in the backfield at the same time last night, and every time I watch them. Would kill for that type of tenacity on my teams Dline

Ravens will likely win for the reasons you stated plus the game is sandwiched between two NFC hurdles. I only ask for 2/3 in this gauntlet. But lose the finale in Seattle and these games are all but pointless.

Justin Smith wasn't the same after tearing his triceps against the Patriots. NE made a big come back falling short and the defense in general was never the same in 2012, had to outscore opponents. Which is argument in favor of Harbaugh making the QB switch.

Ed Lover
11-25-2019, 04:58 AM
Harbaugh making the QB switch.

I remember thinking he had to as well back then. But I also remember thinking that Kaep would get found out... And so he did. The Ravens are incredibly similar to that Niner team, and will end up having the same problems. Eventually there will be enough film, and there's no way in hell the Pats will make the same mistakes twice should they meet again in the playoffs. At Foxboro. In January. Ravens strength, as usual, is on their O/D lines and controlling the ball. But if they get behind and can't run...

That said, I haven't seen the Ravens that much this year and I have a bias against running QB's. History backs me up in this bias. Lamar will eventually have to play from behind and win a game with his arm when its do or die. i don't think he can. I also think they've been the beneficiary of a shitty AFC north and getting some favorable scheduling. I might be wrong but I doubt it. Be interesting to see how the Rams fare against them tonight. Wouldn't be surprised at all if they win. Rams D is still very, very good. They just have Goff and a wholly inferior Oline to what they had last year. lol, imagine paying Jared Goff all that money

Kaepernick had an unorthodox baseball throwing motion that he supposedly worked to fix but he ultimately lacked touch on his passes. It was all fastballs. He especially struggled on throws along the sidelines which made those constant end zone fades moronic. I remember a 49er fan broke down the data and Kaep to Crabtree fade route in the end zone had awful success rate. But they keep running that crap and in the most important playoff moments.

the DL is better and deeper this year, the LBs were better in 2011-2013. the secondary, better this year. Offense better this year. Alex Smith offenses can be stopped with man and hard flat defense because he won't beat you deep. Kaepernick was tougher to stop because he could do everything... run, scramble, throw short, throw deep, but his accuracy was really inconsistent which ultimately hurt the Niners at critical times.

There's no shame in not thinking Jackson would be this good of a passer already -- I certainly didn't believe it until training camp.
