Tied Arkansas for SWC championship did not make the NCAA tourney but won the NIT. (26-5 top 20 AP and did not make it to the tourney?)
Arkansas made the final 4 at the NCAA championships. We did not belong... holy crap. They took 32 teams.
This was a good team for the times. Im not sure how we got left out of the NCAA tourny as I dont know the criteria back then.

I went to Texas Tech during the Pat Knight era (when they were bottom feeders of the Big XII). Occasionally these guys would show up to the rec center and never miss a shot. It was ridiculous, but it had to be psychological too. We'd have guards who weren't even starters on a terrible Big XII team show up to the rec center and all of a sudden they're constantly drilling shots from Steph Curry range. Then these guys get into an actual NCAA game and they're bricking open jumpers left and right.

I admit that I didn't know much of what we were getting when he transferred. You can't trust much from these videos, but I got excited by watching some HS YouTube clip of him. That was really the extent of my knowledge on him other than having a good first year at Georgetown. Dude was draining threes left and right, mean-mugging the crowd, hitting the 'stanky leg'/'booty doo' after each made shot etc. I thought we were getting an alpha male type scorer who could dominate games. IT has heard three names that are currently head coaches in college basketball that could be targeted: Chris Beard, Dana Altman, and Eric Musselman.

The big push from former Texas players will be for Royal Ivey. Ivey is considered an up and coming coach in NBA circles. He is also considered the leader of the Texas basketball program among the former players. Guys that will push for Ivey to be the next head coach at Texas should the position open will include T.J. Ford, Kevin Durant, Tristan Thompson and every other former Longhorn playing in the NBA. That’s how much Ivey is liked and respected among the former Texas players. Ivey would have every former Texas player back fully invested in the program, which can be a powerful force in recruiting. There has even been talk of all the former Texas players currently in the NBA or formerly in the NBA purchasing a house together in Austin to be around the program as much as possible if Ivey was the head coach one day. It’s not out of the question that the players would provide part of the financial piece if the job opens and Ivey is next.
While this group of players wants Ivey to be the coach, all they want from Texas is for him to receive an interview if the job comes open. They understand ultimately it will be Chris Del Conte who is held responsible for the decision.

I cannot argue with your statement. However, Beard is far superior to Herman in the area of maturity, game planning, and being able to wear the big boy pants.

I have no idea what happened with Shaka. I really thought he would be an outstanding hire. I wonder if internally he was sabotaged the way Strong was. I know Strong did a lot of it to himself with some piss poor assistants. I am not sure at all about Shaka's staff.

I am just sick and tired of the overall lack of structure for the program since Penders. It is like a bunch of angry ants all over the place on both ends, with no real plan of action or determined outcome. I see very little in the sense of discipline, technique, and individual growth among the players. It is complete anarchy and has been since Penders. I find it rather unfortunate because we have had some damn fine players.

Beard is definitely the best hire for UT, but it shouldn't be a foregone conclusion that he'll replicate that same success. I don't know why it didn't happen with Smart. I know that for whatever reason his teams at Texas never ran that same kind of 1-2-2 press they did at VCU which gave teams fits.

IMO this is what led to them having to move on from Barnes when they did. I always thought Barnes was a great coach when motivating scrappy players with a chip on their shoulder. Similar to how Beard was able to elevate good players to great things. Their best year was obviously the Final Four year where they were stopped by Carmelo Anthony and then peaked somewhere around 08/09. But then he started getting in 5 star guys like Avery Bradley, Tristan Thomson, etc but wasn't able to do much with it.

I love the Horns, but the diva bullshit is beyond this world from the school's athletes. Not only the athletes, but the society around them as well. Stop acting like UT is so freaking awesome and above everyone else, when all it does is consistently underachieving. I have spent almost my entire life watching the football, basketball, baseball, softball, volleyball, and track teams underachieve. Now, I have also seen some great successes as well. However, the biggest underachievers come from football and basketball. There is no excuse for use to not consistently be a top 5-10 football program on a yearly basis....OU is. We consistently lose to shit programs and get massacred far too often by decent or good school. It is quite embarrassing. Also, no excuse for Jodie Conradt to only have 1 Title, her teams were awesome, and UConn was not the power it has been for the last 25 years. Our men should be winning 2-3 games at least in March.

Following Beard's career, he's done what most coaches would do. Started off DII, and then once he had success there he jumped to UALR. Had a great season there, and then went up the next rung to Texas Tech so it only makes sense that he'd look for the next opportunity. They put $ into everything.
Texas, as bad as they are right now, would have a chance to win the SEC in BB.

UT is absolutely horrid offensively.
They have zero for a PG (if the Tenn game illustrates who they put on the floor.)
This is a horrid distribution of players offensively.
Very good on D until they get too far up.

That game is the first full game I have watched and imo this is not a good team, at all. Its so damn hard to score because I dont think they have a guard on the floor who can beat the opponent's guard off the dribble. Does Beard realize he has no PG? They play hard but damn, its excruciating watching them try to score.
