View Full Version : The Dot Races have been violated!!!

One of the long standing traditions at Spurs games is the regular running of the dots on the jumbotron. It's basically three different color computer animated dots that race around a track and randomly finish 1st-2nd-3rd. It's a fun little stunt as people cheer on their favorite color "dot". The always funny, "Please, no wagering on the race!" announcment that precludes the bit, is good for a laugh.

But what the hell has happened to it? Valero, which is growing in fame for turning every Diamond Shamrock "Corner store" into some gaudy sea-green/raspa vomit colored ice house has stuck it's nose somewhere it doesn't belong. THEY CHANGED THE GREEN DOT INTO THE SEA_GREEN/RASPA BARF COLOR! AND MORE HORRIFICALLY, THE BLUE DOT IS NOW YELLOW!!! AHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!

What fun is the bit now? How can you turn to the person next to you and say, "I bet the sea-green/raspa upchuck dot wins!" How can you chant, "Go sea-green/raspa puke dot, sea-green/raspa hurl dot, sea-green/raspa chunks dot!" It doesn't work. It never will work. It's blasphemy! Change it back Valero, change it back now! Don't just toss aside tradition for your ugly company colors. Don't ruin a good thing!

I know you'll do the right thing!

Yet another time-honored sports tradition defiled by corporate whoring.

I am sad for the future generations who will not know the splendor that was the dot races. :depressed

Y'all are lucky they only changed the colors, and didn't turn the dot races into the "Hummer H3 Races by Ancira Cadillac/Saab/Hummer" with H3s in "Arctic Blue," "Volcanic Red," and "Longmont Green."

I submitted a guest service request for the DOTS to go back to their normal colors. Let's cross our fingers and let's hope they change them soon.

Do they not do the dot races at Canuckistani hockey games? What do they have? Maple leaf races? Those curling things? Moose?

It amazes me to this day that people cheer for a particular dot in the dot races. The first time I saw it, I was flabbergasted. Now I just try to ignore that segment. :lol

But you are right, shouting "Teal" or "Mustard" isn't the same as "Green" or "Blue". :rolleyes

The AAC in Dallas does a dot race sponsored by Ozarka, and the people there are just as nutty about it as Spurs fans.

My kids love it....so do all of the other little kids I see around me that cheer for it.

The guys have the dancers, the girls have the players, and the kids have the dot races. Fun for the whole family. :)

I;ve stuck with Blue ever since .. he;s da man!! I can;t belive he got downsized!!!
