If Forbes doesn't score 25 on 13 shots, the Spurs probably lose that game . . .Or maybe Lonnie would have dropped 50. I don't have to speculate about how bad Forbes' defense was down the stretch. And I still say if he hadn't fouled out, the Rockets would have scored again to win the game.

Count on it. He's back in the locker room telling himself that benching Lonnie made him the player he was tonight.
I have never agreed with giving Beli minutes over Walker, but Pop does have a hell of a track record with developing players. I don't think its likely, but I don't think its impossible that Pop has handled Lonnie in the best way possible. More than likely Pop is just on a severe decline given how he loves to run Patty and Forbes out there but he does have a history with getting the best out of players.
I guess I just don't want to believe he's on the decline even though the signs are all there.

I just wish we had a coach who was over himself, and I wonder what this team would have been like from the beginning of the season under such a coach. As you noted, a truly schizophrenic team. How does a team play with such intensity against the Clips and Rockettes and, honestly, nobody else - including the Pisstons in between?
The old man’s refusal to put any 2 of Dijon, Derrick and Lonnie in the game at the same time until absolutely forced to when Bryn fouled out tells me he hasn’t gotten over himself yet.

I want to keep the streak alive, tbh. I don't care if we get swept in the first round, this is the record breaking season.
It is not that hard either, really. 7th and 8th seed will probably make it with records of around .500. Make some moves. Get a 3&D guy and/or a stretch 4. Lose some of the deadweight. Knock some sense into Pop's head and pound that rock.
ZeusWillJudge
12-03-2019, 11:53 PM
He was a positive tonight. Normally I'd agree with you but he played his ass off tonight.I don't understand some of you. The argument against Forbes isn't his offense (as long as he doesn't put the ball on the floor anyway). It's defense. He's a damn HOV lane for scorers. In a close game or O/T like this, he's a damn liability every single time the opponent has the ball. I'm glad he hit shots tonight, but he shouldn't be in the game in situations like that, period.

And Bryn showed enough for Pop to continue to rationalize his minutes.
The confirmation was Pop’s stubborn refusal to play 2 of Derrick, Dijon or Lonnie together until absolutely forced to when Bryn fouled out. Not putting all 3 of those guys in to close this game was insanity. Pop gonna continue doing Pop things.

THIS, except that I firmly believe that he's also cost us games by being a chucker more than has won us games by chucking. And even when his chucking works, his defense is still horrendous.

I'm not talking about his offense. I was specifically talking about how many times he was iso'd vs Westbrook and on Harden in the 4th and OT and magically managed to stay in front of them more often than not. My issue with his D is always that he gets beat and reaches. Tonight, by and large, he was just reaching which contributed to his fouling out. Again, normally I'm cursing his D, but FOR TONIGHT, he deserves some credit. Be big enough to give him a bit of kudos because we all know the kid normally takes lots of well deserved criticism.

You can when you have 4 guards when he's not expected to score like most of the 4th and OT, or when the go big with LA the duo creates a decent defensive wall.

LOL. Two fouls in less than a minute, in the last 2 minutes of 2OT, including the one that finally fouled him out - the stupid elbow tap on Harden with the shot clock running out that gave the Rockets the lead. Sorry, we'll have to agree to disagree.

Poeltl was a beast. Seems like I even remember him guarding Harden out on the perimeter in the last minutes, and doing a good job of getting a miss without fouling. A couple of games ago he was so terrible on the perimeter. Great game for him.

Why didn't Walker have the ball in his hands every possession in the overtimes? If he had, we would've won more easily. So we almost found a way to ignore our best player on his career night. Jesus.

The best part of this win, after Walker breaking out, is :lol James Harden getting his shit shut down. I don't care that he scored 50 - half those were food stamps, and we all know Harden is a faggot who lives at the charity stripe. But we finally figured out how to guard this piece of shit.
:lol Getting his shit rejected by an Austrian time and time again
:lol Missing that wide open dunk
:lol Failing to score on the last play of 4Q, OT, and OT2
:lol Every crucial play is an offensive foul
:lol Murray literally defending Harden with his back turned and walking away from him on the last play, because that's literally the best way to defend this faggot

it's insane how much better this team looks without LMA. maybe he's up for trade?
This guy didn't watch game. Man spurs were heading for a big loss then Lonnie turned it around in the 3rd and made it his own. That's coming off da bench.
Cool story bro.

It was Lonnies individual D that contained Harden too. Jacob was always there to back him.
Lonnie took pride on both ends.
Someone post a gif of his steal and runaway dunk pls. It was a huge play and throw down was with authority

Or maybe Lonnie would have dropped 50. I don't have to speculate about how bad Forbes' defense was down the stretch. And I still say if he hadn't fouled out, the Rockets would have scored again to win the game.
Agree with this sentiment. It was a blessing in disguise that he fouled out because at that time of game spurs simply needed stops.
He did hit at high rate however and had the three going. Which is his job to do.

TBH, I'm surprised I went to the trouble of finding a game stream when I checked the box score and it was 107-115 with under two minutes left. I wish I would've caught the full fourth quarter. But I'll be the IV highlights are on YT now.

Credit to refs too for disallowing a made dunk by Harden. Never seen an obvious miss like that. Haha
Still take the win however. Lonnies breakout party. Best win of the season. Hopefully a stepping stone.
As pop said before the game... they have taken notice . After this game pop won't forget Lonnie Walker.

I don't understand some of you.
Exactly! Ppl don't get it... All the statistics prove what we are seeing... When he scores, he is LESS of a liability... But he is ALWAYS a liability and has a negative impact on the team

I don't know if this will turn the season around, but if it does that long 3 that Lonnie nailed at the end of regulation should get replayed for years. That was fearless.

Knicks, anybody? The real question is not whether we are good or bad, but why did we play with real intensity against the Clips and the Rockettes and look like an over-50 team at the YMCA the rest of the season so far?
Because that's what bad teams do! We used to play against teams that treated the game like a playoff game... When we lost to them it was like whatever... But to them it was everything... Then they went back to sucking vs everyone else

Maybe because they're mediocre team that has one of worst defenses in league, but also have the ability to go off every now and then when their offense isn't chained to DeRozan and Aldridge. And yeah, sometimes you catch a good team at the wrong time, like duncan2k5 says.

This team has the ingredients to be a decent team. The problem is Pops lineups. Its fucking criminal we don't get to see Lonnie, White, and Murray play together. The defense would be outstanding.
Pop came up on defensive first lineups, and now he can't divorce himself from Forbes. Its incredible.
You can’t blame Forbes in this game, he’s been incredible !

Do you remember the 3 that Tim drilled in Phoenix, and what that meant? All I said was that Lonnie came down with purpose and drilled that shot. I haven't seen anyone else on this roster doing that. And games like this can turn around a season. Which part of that do you not like?

I said that IF it turns the season around and they get into the playoffs. And from that, you get "powerhouse"? Stop going out of your way to be an asshole. That was a big shot by Lonnie. And he wasn't just chucking - he knew exactly what it took to win that game, and he took it on himself to do it. Don't turn it into some commentary on the other weak sucks that got the team to the 7-14 record.
No, squeaking into the playoffs isn't good enough. But after this start, it would be a hell of a turnaround. At least Lonnie isn't laying down.

Exactly, that’s all we’re playing for this season tbh.

Interestingly, I think Pop has a similar mindset to both of you. I think Pop sees players like DeRozan and Aldridge as set in their ways, talented to be sure, but unable to call on the same stuff players Pop has coached in the past were able to, and so Pop is trying to steer players like Murray, White and Walker away from that and more toward what the Big 3 (and Leonard) ultimately became.
How much of that Pop was ultimately responsible for is arguable, but what isn't is that Duncan, Parker, Ginobili and Leonard were open to being coached in that manner and improved to some extent as a result. If Murray, White and Walker are as well, once the team is in their hands I think the Spurs will be in much better shape.

Leaves a bench of Mills, Forbes, Beli/Lonnie, Gay, and whoever the hell else you want to throw out there.
We know Patty, Bryn, and Marco ain't bringing any defense. Lonnie is athletic but still prone to mistakes. Carroll still doesn't seem to know what the hell to do out there. Eubanks and Metu are glorified GLeague players.
Lyles is actually the best defender of those leftovers, and that's saying something.
The problem isn't that Pop doesn't want to start the best defense...the problem is he has no defense behind them.
stop bitching...
stop bitching...
