Week 3 game thread:

That was week three, and most of the media agrees the Cowboys are a top 3 talented team in the league with rock bottom coaching at all levels, especially the head coach and special teams.

How do you see the 49ers doing THAT well? I know they have Jimmy G and Kittle, and Shanahan is going to get his chance to shine... but what about that defense other than the starting DL?

I have them going 10-6 or 11-5 and just missing the playoffs due to being 3rd best in their division.

2019-20 NFL MVP – Carson Wentz. The Eagles will have the #1 offense in the NFL in 2019, including by far and away the #1 passing assault. Barring injury, Wentz will earn his first MVP trophy and, at minimum, seriously threaten Peyton Manning's 2013 campaign while outperforming Patrick Mahomes' 2018 season. The chief (pun intended) reason? The Eagles simply have the best and deepest barrage of skill players in the NFL, as well as arguably the best pass-blocking offensive line. Wentz will return to and exceed his 2017 form, and Philadelphia will be routinely scoring in the upper 30s, 40s and 50s and emerge victorious the vast majority of the time.

AFC

AFC North:

Browns 9-7 (4)
Steelers 8-8
Ravens 8-8
Bengals 3-13

AFC South:

Colts 10-6 (3)
Texans 6-10
Jaguars 5-11
Titans 2-14

AFC East:

Patriots 12-4 (2)
Jets 5-11
Bills 5-11
Dolphins 3-13

AFC West:

Chiefs 13-3 (1)
Chargers 11-5 (5)
Broncos 10-6 (6)
Raiders 8-8

NFC

NFC North:

Packers 9-7 (4)
Bears 9-7
Lions 8-8
Vikings 7-9

NFC South:

Panthers 11-5 (3)
Saints 11-5
Falcons 6-10
Buccaneers 2-14

NFC East:

Cowboys 13-3 (1)
Eagles 13-3 (5)
Redskins 4-12
Giants 3-13

NFC West:

Seahawks 12-4 (2)
Rams 12-4 (6)
49ers 10-6
Cardinals 8-8

Eagles at #1 is ridiculous. The list is pretty suspect imo.

How is it ridiculous? They're loaded at just about every position, and have a lot of starting-quality depth, especially on the OL and DL. WR and TE combinations are downright scary. The only fall-out is if Wentz gets injured, and this year around they don't have a starting caliber backup QB.

Speaking of the NFC North

I can't see anyone in their division being very good though if it's not the Bears. could be one of those 9-7 and in years for that division imo.

Watson is a poor decision making scrambler and has arguably the worst OL in the league. That defense is too top heavy in the front 7 and bad on the back end.

The Clapper was your head coach in Week 3 just like he is now.

This team reminds me of your 2010 Chargers. #1 offense in the NFL and also a high top 10 ranked defense, but atrocious coaching, myriad gaffes on special teams, and horrible at situational football. Such great stats but managed to go only 9-7 and missed the playoffs.

Hmm good point

On one hand a Saints victory allows Seattle to rest Week17 but I think they feel confident the 49ers will struggle to win in Seattle so let SF knock down the #1 seed

So basically no Brady or Brees (or Rivers)?

1) Patrick Mahomes
2) Trevor Lawrence
3) Russell Wilson
4) Carson Wentz
5) Aaron Rodgers- he JUST turned 36
6) Lamar Jackson

I'd take Jimmy over Watson too probably. Not sure about Tua, am skeptical of his injury problems.

T-Law is the next big thing in the NFL, greatest QB to come out of college since Peyton Manning (and more athletic than him to boot). He might be ultimately better than Mahomes, seriously. And I hope the Cowboys get him, and it's not too unrealistic if Dak leaves, Cooper Rush is the starter and whoever is the interim coach for 2020 is completely terrible.

Well, the guy I usually have pegged at #4 is Luck, but he quit

Mark Celibate

why are people still high on Carson Wentz? I'm not a huge Prescott fan, but even Dak has outperformed him thus far. Wentz's one good season ended up with his backup taking the baton and winning the Super Bowl anyway

Wentz was dynamite this year before Jackson went down for the season in literally the first drive of week 2. Ever since, Wentz has had zero help at receiver (Jeffery has also been out 70% of the year) and he's pretty much had to spam the tight ends because the other receivers are wet garbage who can't catch or run any reasonably clean routes. Plus key starters on Wentz's OL have missed significant time this year.

FYI, that pre-season prediction was before Luck quit that I had the Colts going 10-6 and dominating the division. I changed it to the Texans after Luck quit.

Legendary 6 touchdown performance by Brees today against the #1 defense in the NFL and Dennis Allen can’t fucking draw up a gameplan to hold that fucking average offense to under 45 points. Pathetic

Both defenses had numerous amounts of injuries especially in the second half which made it easier for the offenses. To me Payton deserves a lot of the blame. Going for two early in the game, using Kamara too much when he looks average and not pounding the ball will Murray who was bullying them. If Murray gets 20+ carries, Saints pull away earlier. Kamara’s fumble was the turning point.

Saints most overrated NFL team of the 2010's

Your team hasn't won anything in 25 years. Enjoy this win. It was a great game, but the Saints aren't done this season. They're gonna win out and still get a first round bye.

Your homefield is a significant advantage. You really need that divisional round home game

I don't think the Saints can win this game.

I think so too. Huge game for Saints too. A loss drops them to #2 seed and likely a date with 49ers/Seahawks in Divisional Round

Man, I was wrong about this. I thought it would be a fairly comfortable win for SF in a defensive struggle.
Imo, it speaks to how good of offensive minds Payton and Shanny are. Even though Payton made some pretty bad decisions.

Maybe that's why Jones is so adamant about letting him finish out the season.

they won a hell of a lot in 2012 and were a fluky muffed punt away from it in 2011 too

Just keep Eli as the starter, he might win the division.
