View Full Version : Does Marco Belinelli have value in a trade alone?

Or is he just a sweetener/money filler on a bigger trade?

He is an expiring contract which does add some value. His contract isn't huge and he can space the floor and provide veteran leadership, could help show some of the younger players how to move without the ball. Think we could trade him for a back up center? Centers are relatively cheap these days aren't they? If so which centers fit the bill?

No value. SA at best would be able to dump him for nothing, but likely it would take giving up a pick and/or taking on a longer contract from a player underperforming.

I would trade him for a bag of shit. The other team would probably still say no.

I guess his salary is too small to be of any value as an expiring contract eh? No teams out there that need the small amount of cap space he would provide? Expiring contracts used to be worth something but i guess its less so now with the the increasing cap space over the years.

The only team Marco would have any value on would probably only be the Bucks or Lakers where he would be getting wide open shots with no one around him for 5 seconds. Even then with his shit defense he still would be a net negative.

Unless the dude starts shooting 40% from three, he is not tradeable. That said, if the Spurs bought him out, I bet a team would still sign him. Probably Utah, a team that needs a bench, and specifically, three point shooting from a hypothetical three point shooter.

No value back. Some team may take him, but the Spurs are not going to give a sweetener on an expiring contract. Rudy Gay seems like Spur on the move to me.

Aside from the “addition by subtraction”, is there any pros for a buy out?

I don't think so. I mean, if he has a reduced role and wants to go to a title contender if the Spurs are going no where, then the Spurs should do it for him as a courtesy and if he's willing to get bought out on a fair price. If the Spurs are competitive, he's someone you want on your bench because in the recent past he was a capable three point shooter and playmaker and he is a veteran.

Didn't he do well in his last stint with Philly? Maybe they'd like him back.

They seem to still love him and actually may be able to use him in Philly, so I think yes.

However, Beli actually as the last man off the bench is still good for us. I can totally see the team struggling big time late in some game and the guy provides "something". He definitely still has that. (Actually any end of the bench player could have that.)

This. I was fine with Beli staying as long as he’s playing the Kerr role.
