Houston Police Sgt. Christopher Brewster, 32, was shot and killed (https://www.houstonchronicle.com/news/houston-texas/article/Breaking-Houston-police-officer-shot-in-east-14890120.php?utm_campaign=chron&utm_source=article&utm_medium=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.chron.com%2Fnews%2Fho uston-texas%2Fhouston%2Farticle%2FAcevedo-blames-legislators-after-Houston-sergeant-14892837.php)Saturday night on a domestic violence call.

The man who shot him with semi-automatic pistol had a long criminal history,
including domestic assault, and
he had two guns with him during the assault on his girlfriend that Brewster responded to.

Houston Police Department Chief Art Acevedo is seeing Brewster buried, and

he's enraged (https://twitter.com/mrkmully/status/1204081105508413441) at the men who are continuing to allow this to happen.

"We all know in law enforcement that one of the biggest reasons that

the Senate, Mitch McConnell and John Cornyn and Ted Cruz and others are not getting into a room and

having a conference committee with the House and getting the Violence Against Women Act, is because

the NRA doesn't like the fact that we want to take firearms out of the hands of boyfriends that abuse their girlfriends,"

"And who killed our sergeant?

A boyfriend abusing his girlfriend.

So you're either

here for women and children and our daughters and our sisters and our aunts,

or

you're here for the NRA."

"So I don't want to see their little smug faces :lol about how much they care about law enforcement

when I'm burying a sergeant because they don't want to piss off the NRA.

Make up your minds, whose side are you on?" Acevedo said.

"Gun manufacturers?

The gun lobby?

Or the children who are getting gunned down in this country every single day? [….]

Who are you coming to work for?"

Then I'm there for the NRA. Done deal. Easier than picking the Patriots over the Bengals this Sunday.

gun violence in this country is just a total disgrace and Trump says he's going to do something and he does nothing. I thought he said he wasn't going to beg for special interest money, but he does pretty much whatever the NRA wants to get their money.
