the Witcher 3 came out in 2015. your lists are fail
Cyberpunk is one of the most hyped games because of Witcher 3

Dying Light was good, it was like a side quest of Witcher 3

I gotta say 2017 was by the best year though with NieR Automata, Persona 5, Yakuza 0, Super Mario Odyssey, Horizon Zero Dawn, Zelda BOTW, and Nioh. Though 2013 and 2015 were really incredible too.

i haven't played a bunch of games which may end up cracking that list, like witcher 3, skyrim, nier automata (very early in the game right now), dark souls/sekiro, etc

i know skyrim is said to be fantastic but honestly portal 2 is one of the greatest games i've ever played... would take a lot to displace that on my list

Portal 2 was amazing but Elder Scrolls Skyrim was one the very few games I'd rate 10/10. Seeing neither a Portal nor Elder Scrolls game this gen is easily my biggest disappointment of this era.

Not sure I'm even interested in Elder Scrolls anymore after the shitshow Fallout has been going through.

Yeah kind of wondering if it'll be another Mass Effect Andromeda, or worse. Bethesda went from my fav dev last gen to my least this gen.

2014: (Was I alive? I don't remember any games in 2014)

Haha 2014 and 2016 were by far the worst two years this decade. 2014 was so weak I was thinking of maybe putting Far Cry 4 as my GOTY. OK series, but the last few years have been good enough that I never even touched Far Cry 5.

Picking a single game ain’t fair so fuck yo format BB I’m going multiple choice in here. Scrolling through the Wiki page and I just get reminded of how many good games came out the same year.

2010: Heavy Rain, God of War 3

-Heavy Rain’s story is very good and the branching path and plethora of different endings makes this game one of my personal favorites.

-GOW3 to this day remains one of my hardest earned platinum to date. Zeus is by far the hardest boss in the whole series.

2011:

-Batman Arkham City

Need I say more?

Uncharted 3

2012:

-Dishonored

Being a Thief's fan this was a no brainer. You could say this was more than a spiritual successor to it.

2013

-GTA 5
-Thomas Was Alone
-Bit Trip Runner 2
-Metro Last Light
-Remember Me

The year of the Indie Games crave tbh. I dont think I bought a single triple A game that year besides of course GTA 5. I threw in Metro and Remember in there but tecnically I played those games years later. A couple of plats me.

2014:

-Thief

Fun ass game. Played it in a thousand ways and everytime experienced something different. My favorite playthrough was complete stealth.

2015:

-Arkham Knight
-Project Cars

2016:

-Uncharted 4
-Dishonored 2

2017:

-Nier Automata

2018:

-God of War 4

The GOAT, conversation over.

-Detroit Become Human

2019:

This year has been dogshit. I bought a bunch of games like Sekiro, Kingdom Hearts 3, Ace Combat 7 and so and so but I have yet to play two out of those 3.

In all honesty my gaming slowed down around 2015 so I have been playing catch up for years with these games.

I don’t recall which game is which year, tbh...

Memorable games would include:
God of War
GTA V
Uncharted(s)
Red Dead Redemption (1 & 2)
Last of Us
Horizon Zero Dawn
Nier Automata
Skyrim
AC Odyssey
Rise of the Tomb Raider
Some of the CODs... (single player campaigns too short though)
Zelda latest
Super Mario latest

If I had to go top 3 gaming years this decade I'd probably rank them

1. 2017 - NieR Automata, Persona 5, Super Mario Odyssey, Horizon Zero Dawn, Yakuza 0, Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Nioh
2. 2013 - GTA V, Bioshock Infinite, The Last of Us, Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, Tomb Raider
3. 2015 - Bloodborne, Dying Light, The Witcher 3, Fallout 4

Holy fuck 2017 had a killer lineup of games between PS4 and Switch.

It is true though that Cyberpunk has bought itself all the hype on the back of the Witcher series. Game is been too hyped up. Hope it’s good but man, can’t remember a game with this much hype before that actually turned out to be that and more.

RDR2 got way more hype than Cyberpunk. GTA V too. I wasn't an RDR2 fan but a lot of people consider it one of the greatest games ever made. And GTA V is definitely a game that lived up to massive hype.

I don't know much about the last decade outside of name recognition.

You guys can name them by year.

You should watch Zero Punctuation reviews. Dude is funny.

He does this for a living, so he tends to have pretty spot on takes for how mechanics and other elements fit together.

Steam does a mildly good job of allowing previews and so forth.

nier automata giving this a run for its money. theres pros and cons for each game. horizon had a strong story that was pretty big in scope (i cared a lot less about the crap between tribes, but learning the backstory to what happened was fascinating), but nier's is more compelling tbh.

horizon's enemy design and combat was much better. trip wires, elemental attacks, weak points, etc etc.

aloy was a boring mary sue... while the androids are really complex.

i think nier's game and world design is much more imaginative though. horizon definitely looks better on the micro scale, graphically, with small details like grass movement, etc, but it was all just wilderness. areas like the amusement park, the city ruins... much cooler overall. on overall game design, horizon felt more cookie cutter (even though it was great, and the tallneck towers were fucking outstanding), while nier was more innovative with blending genres. even when the camera shifts from dynamic to a static overhead shot was a really fun concept early in the game which i appreciated.

will probably have to let these sink in more at the risk of recency bias, but i've been very impressed with nier despite its combat being lackluster

Nice, I love the storyline after Ending B. If you're ever interested in the backstory the first Nier on PS3 is pretty fucking compelling. Though it's kind of poor graphically and the combat is much better in Automata. It has been a cult hit for years but was definitely a commercial failure, so you won't find it in the $5 bargain bin unless the seller doesn't know what he has. It has a really interesting story about Emil, who just seems like a clown in Automata, but who is actually a really interesting character in the first Nier. So much so that I hope they do another Nier that takes place in the time period between Nier and NieR Automata where you play as Emil. It wouldn't surprise me to see that because Yoko Taro wore an Emil mask for years for all public appearances. Speaking of Yoko Taro and his Emil mask, here is a hilarious talk he gave to Atlus (who makes Persona) right before the launch of Automata. :lol
