I was at the game on Tuesday night, and I had a blast. The one thing that I can't stand, though, is how 3/4 of the crowd leaves with anywhere from 2-5 minutes left in the 4th quarter.

I know this isn't a SA thing, and that is a common trend in all arenas and other sports. I just can't understand it. When is the last time you left a movie before it was over, just because you thought you knew the outcome? No, you paid $7.50 to see the movie and you're gonna stay 'till the end. Well, the game costs way more than $7.50 and people leave with enough time on the clock for something to happen. What if the players quit playing with like 5 minutes left, because they thought the game was in hand? I think its downright disrespectful. They played hard for 48 minutes and only 25% of the fans are there to applaud their efforts when the buzzer sounds and the game is over. If there is a good arguement for leaving (other than traffic), please enlighten me.

There are plenty of reasons to stay the whole time...comebacks, injuries, highlight reel plays that could happen, and those who left early on Tuesday missed Timmy and Horry viciously fighting over a rebound with 3 seconds left. That was funny!!!

That's all I have for now...I just wanted some feedback and some honest opinions on the subject. Thanks.

Oh, Gee!!

In places with a better traffic setup to get in and out, it's not so imperative to get a jump on traffic.

SBC Center's not so great. Frankly, I just say to heck with it and use the P&R.

Downtown arenas are better because there are lots scattered everywhere and dozens of ways in and out. When I go to MMP, once I get to my car I'm out of downtown in 5 minutes.

The funny thing is that people leave early to avoid traffic, but so many do it there is traffic anyway.

When I get to go to games I stay until after the impact player show and have little to no trouble getting out.

I'm like you, I want to see everything.

Because people are morons.

They pay over a hundred bucks to go to a game, yet they leave with 8 minutes left in the 4th, it makes no sense.

Exactly! More people leave before the game is over than when the game is over. There has to be as much, if not more traffic when people leave early.

I get my jump on traffic by leaving after the 1st Quarter every night.

Its not Sunday mass, you know. but I do understand what you say.

What I want to know is many of the seats on the lower levels are empty has anyone ever gone and tried moving down to a better seat?? I know there are some ushers on each entry but I just want to hear from your experience. I have moved down a few rows but not moved down levels down.

Thanks!

They get the DT's because they close the bar in the 4th and have to go to the truck for a beer.

Well, I can't speak for the other 18,794 people who were at the game, but I can tell you why we leave our seats a couple of minutes before the game is over (we do not leave the arena, we watch the remainder of the game on the monitors in the concourse): because my 73-yr old Mom goes to the games with us. It's difficult for her to get up and down the steps to the seats we can afford. So, we try to go early so she doesn't have to deal with the crowd, and we try to start down a couple minutes early so that she has time to catch her breath before we start the sprint for the bus.

I'm sure there are a lot of reasons why people leave early, probably as many reasons as there are people who do that. I think the important thing is making the effort to GO to games when you can afford it and get the opportunity.

Any more questions?

I don't know why the people leave either. We park in lot 6 so it's like a 3 minute walk from the arena doors. It takes no more than 5 minutes to leave the lot for me. The opening game had to have been the longest I have ever waited to leave the SBC center ever and I doubt it was much more than 5 minutes.

:lmao

The only time I've left a little early is if I have one of my kids during the preseason and it's a school night. Oh, and there was one time I ended up leaving early so I could meet a fucking locksmith in the parking lot because I locked my keys in my car. We didn't end up getting out of there until after midnight anyway, so we might as well have stayed.

But come to think of it ... it was preseason and I had my daughter and it was a school night, too. :fro

Otherwise, no ... I would never consider leaving early.

I wouldn't go so far as to complain, it's their money and they can do with it as they wish, if that's coming late, leaving early, or not coming at all, Timmy and Co still get their millions.

Having said that I'd feel bad for the Rockets fans that left with two or three minutes to go with their team down by a dozen or so because TMAC went off and scored that many points in less than a minute and they won the game...

I really recall thinking that because you could see many of the fans had left...

That sounds like a good reason. I wasn't insulting those who do leave their seats early, but you know as well as I do that most people leaving early are not in their 70's or with someone in their 70's. Most people use traffic as the reason, but like someone said, it really only takes a few extra minutes of traffic to stay for the end. You're right, though, going to the games is important...I just don't understand why so many people pay money ($25-$500) to not see how it ends. All I wanted was feedback. Thanks for the responses!

I haven't tried it, but I would recommend NOT trying to go down there near section 101 (where most people enter). Until they get to know you they check everyone's tickets.

I've gotten some pretty decent seats by moving down a few rows when everone else leaves early. The tickers I have usually aren't that bad either so that may have something to do with it but still.

I hated when someone moved down and sat right next to us and started loudly blabbing on their cell phone in the 4th quarter. They were upset because whoever was going to give them a ride had bailed on them. No wonder!

Well it's quite a bit of an exaggeration in the initial post that 3/4 of the crowd left early. It was a number of people but it wasn't even close to half.

I understand that everyone has their reasons for leaving (family, traffic, etc) and that's their right.

But one time, I was at The Forum in L.A. during a game in the playoffs and the game went into overtime and during the break before the OT started about 5,000 people exited. I was dying laughing. It's OVERTIME!

I'm with SpursWoman on the reason of school night being the first thing that came to my mind - although the majority of the $120+ seats in camera view are not occupied by children.

SpursWoman

True, during the fan cams I can tell the camara men face a major dilemma (in the *good* seats) ... they really, really want the pretty girl on camera, but they are torn because she looks absolutely bored out of her mind and talking on the phone.

I remember the flood of humanity heading for the Alamodome exits, crowding the walkway behind the temporary seats in front of the curtain on May 31, 1999 in the last minute of the game that day.

I'm sure many of those people tell the story about how they never gave up on the Spurs and stayed in their seats through to the bitter, bitter end.

Them and those who had already made it out into the concourse.

i can understand it if fans leave the game when their team is clearly going to lose. that usually happens...

but in the spurs case, they were winning and was playing really good.

thats why i found it weird too why the fans left

We're talking like we're the only ones who leave a game early. Isn't this true for most NBA arenas?
