Leaning Chiefs, I think they'll be able to contain the running attack and force Jimmy into a shootout.

Mahomes' mobility will give SF problems, they struggle against fast QBs.

Yop, but Mahomes also hasn't seen a pass rush like the Niners' yet in his career.

The one thing Chiefs have going for them is that they have proven they can come from behind. I don't see Garoppolo being able to do that. The Niners have no other chance but to get in front early.

Chiefs have gone down early in both their games so far, so there's that. Agree with the overall point though.

And finally, it was a fucking joke in reference to the True Romance scene, how the hell do you dipshits take it so seriously?

The North Africans aren't black though. They are semites, phoenicians, arabs who kept settling westward. The desert to the south kept them safe over the centuries from the actual blaxx.

That was a good scene. But the guy that called him a niggеr got his head blown off in the end.

This has happened over and over during SuperBowls. The flashy, high scoring, pass happy offense getting favoured over the more balanced team but then taking a beatdown.

There's also the nervousness factor. It's easier to hide shaky hands and legs by banging on the run game, than trying to be precise with your passing.

he was always ahead of the curve... McNabb had his accuracy issues for sure, but Reid loved the mobility. Westbrook would be the quintessential "modern" back. then he found LeSean McCoy

even when he got to KC his first order of business was to trade for Alex Smith. a QB who could extend plays. sure, jamaal charles fell into his lap, but he also found Kareem Hunt.

even going back to philly one of his big criticisms was that in big games he'd abandon the run too quick and throw too much, something he still has a tendency to do. he's always been the same. ST has always underrated the fuck out of him.

i dont think spags is some poison pill DC... and they definitely had to make a change to somebody that wouldnt be historically awful like bob sutton had been. i think the mistake was dumping a first to upgrade from dee ford to frank clark while also paying clark.

Ford was a situational pass rusher who was historically terrible against the run to his side last year... there's a reason the 49ers only play him on passing downs. Clark has proved that he can stop the run + get 10+ sacks a year as a pass rusher.

I think the Chiefs wanted to completely overhaul the defense and remove the stink of being so awful last year. Dumping Justin Houston for nothing was also a questionable move but Spags felt he didn't quite fit his scheme and he was very expensive. At some point it was about changing the culture and that meant some sacrificial lambs.

He was probably shaken as many of us were about the gutless play by Titans defense at the end of the 1st Half

What he said should go without saying. The defense is openly discussing it in their meetings. Whitlock made interesting point that Mahomes is helping the sport grow which results in more money in the pockets of players. On the flip side narratives and even players are very important but more important to the NFL is physicality on the field

"In evaluating these two teams, though, there's one significant weakness that stands out: the Chiefs' run defense. Against most teams, the Chiefs are simply too devastating on offense for their 29th-ranked run defense to matter. The 49ers have feasted on those terrible run defenses in 2019, scoring 51 points on the 32nd-ranked Panthers, 31 points on the 30th-ranked Browns and 41 points on the 28th-ranked Bengals. Furthermore, if you were trying to build a defense for Shanahan to exploit in the passing game, you'd want to build one that was overmatched at linebacker and free safety.

The Chiefs have been able to overcome sloppy play on defense and special teams by scoring at an astronomical, unsustainable rate on offense, even by Mahomes' incredible standards. The 49ers won't shut down Mahomes, and I would be worried about a fourth-quarter comeback if the 49ers are winning once the pass rush begins to tire and Reid finds a weakness, but this is the best defense Mahomes has faced during the postseason by a considerable margin. The 49ers should be better along the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball in this game, and that has won football games for a century now. If Mahomes can overcome those advantages and still guide Reid to his first Super Bowl victory, we'll be lucky enough to see it. 49ers 27, Chiefs 23"

Yeah, I think the Chiefs are going to win. Ever since the Colts and Texans and Packers gashed them back-to-back-to-back mid season, the Chiefs learned to stop the run and they've been shutting it down consistently ever since.

The Chiefs run defense has gotten a lot better at the end of the season. In their last 6 games, they've only give up 100+ once (103 to the Chargers).
Also, I think they had an injury to one of their prime run stoppers.

That being said, the 49s run scheme is probably the best in the NFL with both a great blocking FB and TE.

Yeah, I think the Chiefs are going to win. Ever since the Colts and Texans and Packers gashed them back-to-back-to-back mid season, the Chiefs learned to stop the run and they've been shutting it down consistently ever since. I was. It was more I was a Pete Carroll fan and due to my ties with USC and I am firstly an L.A. fan. My allegiance is to L.A., so I also stated here that when L.A. would get a team, I'd throw my fandom into the new or relocated team whoever was here first.

Yes, Chris Jones missed time. Their LBs aren't really dual purpose which is a problem for their defense, but if they can control the run on early downs they can get after the passer on longer D&D situations.

The one place where Shanahan might sting the Chiefs is if he throws in a zinger by running up the middle on say, a 3rd & 8 when all the small and fast guys are on the field... he stung the Packers for the opening TD that way.

One other thing to note is that the Charger's RBs also had over 100 yards receiving. They (49ers) don't target their RBs a ton but I'm sure Shannahan has several of these plays designed. He used Coleman/Freeman pretty efficiently in Atlanta.

Kareem Hunt was putting fools on skates when the played with Mahomes (last year IIRC). Then he has Tyreke Hill who can just out run everybody, inflating Mahomes already good stats. And even his young guys are good (Hardman, and that other dude). Watkins sucks ass, fuck him. But other that that he has a stacked team with an equally good O-Line, led by Fisher who was a 1st rounder.

Watkins sucks ass. He had all the chances in the world to take over when Hill went down early this year and couldn’t catch shit or get open at all, even against the worst CBS. And the defense had some players who went on to do good things after they left KC, so it’s not like they didn’t have talent there (Dee Ford, who is now a double agent on the 9ers, and Marcus Peters IIRC who played ok this year on the Ravens). Sick? Berry got cancer in 2014 and recovered in early 2015.. Do you live under a rock? Berry has had major leg injury problems ever since, and he played 2 games last year and he wasn't on an NFL roster this year. Peters never played at the same time as when Mahomes was the starter, they traded him to the Rams before the 2018 season.

The Chiefs were the LAST (32nd) ranked defense last year, and the singular reason why the Chiefs didn't make the Super Bowl last year.

Yes, Watkins sucks ass, and fortunately the Chiefs front-loaded all his guaranteed money into the first 2 out of 3 years, so he can be cut literally tomorrow with no dead money cap hit. The Chiefs will 100% move on from him as he's a luxury expense for a medium-productivity, fast-but-not-uber-fast guy who plays about 8 full games per season.

Hill has evolved into DeSean Jackson 2.0, and Kelce is a top 3 NFL tight end, but the rest of their roster is just... meh. Their O-line isn't the worst in the NFL but it's below average.

I was talking about my blood pressure level/stress during the game. Against the Eagles it became pretty clear early on that the Patriots were grossly outmatched at every position other than QB and TE, so I had a weird sense of acceptance the whole game that the Patriots would ultimately lose.

Last year it was clear that Goff was struggling but I was worried the Patriots defense would run out of gas the way it did against Mahomes two weeks earlier.

Side note, I truly hope Fox changes their score box thing at the bottom back to one of the ones roughly what it looked like (top left corner) from 2010-2016. It's so stupid to have it at the bottom anyway, it is an eyesore. Their 2017-present one is ultra-vanilla, bland, boring, outright dull and flavorless.

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CtTWp4GVMAAnt6Y.jpg

The top-right corner one (2012-2013) was absolutely perfect, and I hoped at that time that they never were going to change it again, but of course they got retarded and did. However, the 2014-2016 one was not bad, especially when they showed the team's records in 2016.

Then, some dumb fuck upstairs decided to put the score as a big long rectangle on the bottom of the screen, which outright fucked up the entire viewing experience IMO. If I had one wish for Fox, I hope they go back to a nice score bug on the top left corner similar to one of the ones from 2012-2016. If I had a second wish for Fox, I wish they would demote stupid Kevin Burkhardt to fifth-string or lower, his playcalling is downright annoying and gets way too many marquee games in the past few years.

....... but if he was sliding, wouldn't the ball be spotted at the start of the slide? Either way, not a first down.

He started to slide past the first down mark.

Excellent trick play by Reid.

Unlike usually conservatard Reid for going for it on a 4th down, but he made the right decision and the right play call.

First quarter went by with only 3 total offensive possessions, and the first one was a 3 and out. Crazy.

Not at this volume. Nearly every play is a trick play, that’s not sustainable.
