Never. They're fake

Occasionally but mostly not. If I see a really sorry looking motherfucker (ie a veteran with one leg) I’ll give him money.

Blake

No way. I saw one with tats on his calves and I know what he'll do with it.

I hardly carry cash any more too. I'm waiting for one to hold up an iPhone with the card swipe

Saw a "veteran" today in a military jacket, sign saying he was a disabled veteran, etc. Funny thing was he had a vietnam campaign ribbon on his jacket and he couldn't have been over 40. Fuck that shit.

Yeah I see the veteran stuff a lot too, the only time I gave money to one was when he literally had one leg since you can’t fake that.

How fucked up does your self esteem have to be to do that? Do you think they get pleasure out of playing people for fools?

One Thanksgiving my wife gave a guy $100 because he had a dog with him. Pissed me off because I see that motherfucker in valero all the time eating at subway while watching shit on his ipad

Ask em if they are hungry.

Y.

Meet me at this fast food place on that corner.

No show.

A few exceptions, but very rare.

I admit to more paying more attention to the dog scenario as well.

Like I said, he had one leg. You can’t fake that. Maybe he used it for drugs, I really don’t care.

very very rarely do i just hand out cash

but if i'm getting fast food and theres a guy outside asking for money, i more often than not offer to buy a sandwich. or one time i was filling gas and somebody was asking for money, i asked if i could get him anything from the convenient store. he wanted water and cigarettes. i just bought him a bottle of water.

several years ago when i used to work part time at a frozen yogurt store, this homeless dude would always come in to beat the heat and we'd just talk if it was slow/empty. one day he told me he was gonna go to burger king and get a sandwich, asked if i wanted anything. i gave him some cash, told him to get himself something and to bring me a chicken sandwich. when he left, i legit thought he'd just take the money, but i didnt care, it was a few bucks. he came back some time later and brought me a sandwich and fries.

so little things like that, yeah i tend to cave. but never to just some guy panhandling

I’ve done similar stuff and every time the answer I get is “no I need money not food”

recently when i had a lunch break during the VA bar exam, i walked to the closest mcdonalds. there was a dude outside asking for money. i kinda ignored him on my way in. on my way out though, i asked him if i could get him something. he was like "yeah a big mac, large fries and large soda"

:lol presumptuous fuck... i did buy him a combo which comes with medium, not large. paid, gave him the receipt and went on my way

:lol i did get spurned by a homeless dude one time and i was lowkey pissed... again during my frozen yogurt job days, after a night shift in the winter i would sometimes walk to starbucks and get some nice hot coffee. i saw a homeless guy sitting out there in the cold (LA cold, so maybe 50's), so i bought an extra hot chocolate and on my way back i offered it to him. he was like NAH IM GOOD and showed me he had a bottle in a paper bag.

Sometimes and only once.

It's easy to spot the squatters asking for money because they're always the same people.

I left the office at 5 in the afternoon a couple of days ago and there was a guy jacking off literally 30 feet from my truck. This is only 5 blocks from the courthouse downtown.

True story, I was walking out of HEB once many years ago and a guy was standing there with his hand out. Obviously someone just put some change there and he didn't have time to pocket it yet, so he put his open hand in my face.. I took two quarters and said "thanks dude!".

Is San Antonio that bad? I live in DC and the homeless population is out of control....more or less everywhere there’s cover from rain you’ll see homeless people camped out.

I got desensitized to that shit really quickly at UCLA, they're fucking all over the place and most of them are fake. The real homeless people yell at you at the bus stop, they don't ask for money. My friend who was a valet parker in Beverley Hills said he saw one who parked his Mercedes in the same garage they used and then would change into some fucked up clothes and go out begging there. Also saw that same fuck begging on Ocean Ave in Santa Monica. Worst was I saw this one "homeless" motherfucker at this popular cookie shop by the school and he had a 12 pack with him and was asking for money. I told him fuck off, I wish I had a 12 pack right now.

Actual homeless people are too busy hustling or stealing for their drug money. Not saying it’s a good thing, but they aren’t shameless enough to stand around begging.

Damn when I was there they weren't on campus but would be all over Westwood Blvd. Always fun to deal with the actual homeless mentally ill ones when I'd ride the Blue Bus to a graveyard shift job I did one summer.

STOLEN VALOR

Last summer it was really Hot so I gave a begger an extra water I had

Frustrating when drivers hold up traffic at the light

In Warsaw I was taking a tour and gypsy child was asking for handout. The tour guide told her to scram (in Polish) and then warned her she'll call the Police. Panhandling is really looked down upon there. Another time Gypsy guy asked me for money and I gave him cigarette instead. We chatted while smoking. I asked him where he was from and how locals treated him. His father was Polish.

I gave 2 chick fil a deluxe sandwiches on two separate days to the same old Mexican guy at 281 and 1604 chick fil a last year when I visited. Better ROI than Spurs tickets tbh. He really appreciated it and needed it.

The same money I spend on Spurs goes to fuckin Forbes salary and those gay ass hoodies he buys

Nah the best scams are played by pros.
I knew a dude once who would dress up in a decent suit, shoes and leather briefcase.
He would go lurk at subway platforms during the AM and PM rushhour and pretend he left his wallet at the coffee shop/cab or whatever
He would easily get 10-20 dollars from fellow passengers who felt he was "one of them"

He was good at it,he was a tall good looking guy and he worked out all the time.
He would even score lots of phone numbers from women who gave him money but he never followed up on them because he easily make 200 hundred bucks a morning and then do it again during evening rushhour on a different platform

He had five bespoke suits he took immaculate care of dude looked like he walked straight out of Goldman Sachs.
Heard he was killed years later down in Florida,he'd gotten into running guns/drugs big time.

I rarely do anymore because there are opportunities for them to find necessities from a number of organizations if they seek them out. Some of the panhandlers don't want to adhere to the rules of some of these shelters, others may be unaware of them, and still others may figure it's a better hustle this way. The conservative fantasy that these people are all making $60K a year on street change is ludicrous though. These are still people in need and many of them are mentally ill.

I'll offer an extra burger or a slice of pizza if it's convenient (and if they accept).

Come to Austin sometime soon if you want to get a feel for what San Francisco must be like. It’s so out of control up here now with tent cities popping up in medians on riverside, overpasses having hundreds of homeless, and random spots behind commercial buildings homing dozens all over the place. I used to be ok giving a buck or two or certainly any leftovers from lunch, but now I don’t bother because it’s gotten so out of control and I don’t want to support it.

It all depends,,,sometimes they see you get out of your car before you see them as you get out of your car. Then, it's dicey...either you don't give them the money and go back and move your car, or, you give them money so your car ain't at risk.
