View Full Version : Why not give Duncan the ball more?

12 shots is not enough for your teams MVP. He should get to the line 8 times every night especially since he can hit his freethrows this year. I know we have Ginobili emerging as a star now but Duncan should still get enough touches to score 25 like in '03. Besides, if he would be allowed to run up his own score it would open up the floor for TP and his new and improved jumper when Duncan starts to get double and triple teamed.

Mavs have won the battle but not the war!

Tony should've played 42 minutes tonight.

Tony should've played 42 minutes tonight.

Agreed.

Nick getting his third foul early killed us, and Nick being in when Tony should've towards the end did too.

Definitely. Especially since NVE is defensively challenged. Harris was kicking his ass.

We went from tie game to 20 down with Nick in there getting lit up by DHarris while Tony sat on the pine.

Sorry, that's on the coaches.

It seems to be a pretty ubiquitous opinion that tony had no business on the bench in the early fourth.

But I think Duncan's touches were okay. Dampier was being moderatley physical...for the 3rd game of teh season? Ain't no thang.

I think TD should have got 20 touches tonight. Last year the suns had 3 all-stars but when they had to beat the Mavs they leaned on their mvp and he produced a couple triple D's in a row.My point is Duncan should have had more attempts because no one was helping TP in the 4th quarter.

Don't underestimate the Mavericks' defense. AJ know's the first step towards stopping the spurs is limiting Duncan's touches. Once he gets the ball in his spots, he shoots it.

He was taking good shots for the most part when he was getting the ball.

that's what i'm saying he was hardly working and he got 18 and 12. If they force fed him the ball more... oh I don't know what the team should have done but gino was stinking it up and TP was hitting everything so mabe they should have split some of gino's touches between TD&P?

i think the only real concern i have is ginobili

hopefully its all becuz of this thigh bruise...but he has indeed been stinking it up.

I loved his last minute hustle, but it was too little too late.

I agree, Duncan needs more touches and shot attempts. 12 shot attempts and what, 0-1 in the fourth quarter is ridiculous, especially considering how well he was doing. Despite this, he still had a great game (18 points, 12 rebounds, 5 assists, 6 blocks), but if he touched it more and took some shots, we might have had a little better chance. Also, Parker should have played a lot of minutes last night considering how well he was doing. Pop needs to keep them in the game.

Am I the only one that thinks Duncan has lost too much weight during the off season? To me he's not as strong as he used to be. It looks like he's lost about 10 pounds or so.

Anyways, his offense was pretty decent, but his defense was not particular good, esp. his rotations. I couldn't even start counting his errors on the defensive rotations last night.

NVE sucks

nve doesn't suck, he was just used wrong. pop should know in advance he is a little trigger happy. if he had played to our strengths, i.e. inside out, that would have been great.

Actually, I was wondering if Manu lost weight. I'm not sure if it was the haircut, or what, but it seems like he lost 10lbs or so.

Hmmm....Gumi, I think something is up. Maybe we should make a trip down to both Manu and Timmy's house, and speak with their wives. It seems to me, the problem may be not enough of good ole fashion home cookin. "Step back from burger, Timmy". :lol

2 seasons ago I thought Duncan was at his ideal playing weight. He must have been around 260-265. He's listed at 260 right now, but I'm pretty sure he's not much more then 250.

Maybe the team doctors advised Duncan to loose several pounds in order to add some years to his game. He's had those ankle problems for 2 years now. It's possible. Maybe he was to heavy and this is his true playing weight.

Not ,maybe.
It is for sure -Tim lost it because of his ankles.
But wait till the PO he will gain some pounds. It is not that tough.

All i can say about this years version of timduncan is like the tim duncan of 98/99, very efficient and very quick with the ball in his hands, he has step up a notch imo in his offensive and timing with the ball, his playin with his back from the ring, towards the ring more swiftly, oh yeh showed sum glimpses of his spin down low :D:D damn just put the mvp trophy, dpoy award, finals ring and finals mvp in the bag and hand it to him. Parker should be givin him more of the ball.

If NVE/FINLEY/BARRY/UDRIH is in the game i like to see them play the in-out system, more easier for these guys to be open and score instead of playin the motion system and fast pace parker loves to play and the gino pick n roll/cut into the lane game with the flashy passes, i dont see these guys catchin the ball :D:D to flashy....

just my 2cents....GO SPURS GO

Hey so duncan shed a few pounds, so whats his actual weight now?? NBA.COM still list him at 260lbs 6'11, or is he just big bones boy?

Agreed.

You guys are making too big of a deal about a regular season loss. Weren't most of you sayign before the season that having such great depth would be ideal because it would give Pop the option to even go as far as not playing some starters on back-to-backs in order to give them a chance to rest. Did you guys forget that Tony played during the summer? And yet you still want him to play 42 minutes on the second night of a back-to-back?

And since when has Tim Duncan been known as a power player?
