For my 1st foray into the working world at age 12 I got myself 2 jobs.

*Delivering the paper after school - I had 3 routes. It took 2 1/2hrs and 3 return trips home (cause I had to carry those papers in a bag over my shoulder.... which reminds me: sunday was a bitch!) I averaged about $80 a week including tips.

*Shoveling snow. I took over an older kid's neighborhood hook-ups when he got a "real" job at a music store. I had about 8 solid cutomers. $35 for driveways, $10 for frontwalk and stoop, and and extra $5 included the sidewalk.

----------------------------
after that it was just a long progression of "under the counter" type jobs.
babysitting
housesitting
dogwalking
house cleaning
late night janitorial
even balancing the books at a small engine repair buisness in Victoria. they paid me with cash and favors.

the day I turned 16 I got my 1st "paycheck" job. busgirl @ Siesta restaurant. I had never made so little money in my life. :lol

Mine was 16 working at Mr. Gatti's. I got fired 3 months later for punching a hispanic high school drop out that they were training as a shift manager. He told me to go back and cut his pizza. I told him to kiss my ass. He tried to push me (with a 500+ degree over a few feet behind me). He might have weighted about 120 or so, so I knocked his out right at the buffet table in front of all the customers.

The big boss brought me back to his office and said they had to let me go for doing that in public, so I stole a Coke on the way out the back door.

I spent 8 hours a day cleaning hundreds of coups...shoveling piles of chicken shit, as well as collecting and tossing out chickens after falling dead from heart attacks. The absolute nastiest job ever.

I failed my drug test after two weeks, so I turned to a feed mill in Caledonia. There I got to mix and bag goat feed, chicken feed, and calf crackle....all this in the sub-zero winter weather. Thank God for Carhartz. To top it off, once a year we got to climb down into the silos and clean out the hundreds of pounds of mouldy feed. I've never had so many nosebleeds and bronchial infections in one year than the 365 days I spent at that hellhole.

Walked around while everyone was setting up, had a one of those big rubbermaid tubs on wheels, and wheeled it around and sold sodas and bottles of water out of.

100 degrees in Pomona California and Phoenix AZ.

Button man for the mob, the work was quick and you got the added pleasure of listening to people beg for their lives before you put a bullet in the back of the brain. The job really taught me alot of people skills that I now utilize as a counselor!

My first actual (unofficial) job was babysitting. I even kept kids whose parents worked all day, so it was like a full-time job.

But my first official job was working for a photography studio (like Olan Mills, but not them...although I did work for them on my second job because they bought this other place out :lol ) as a telemarketer. That was 34 years ago, and I still don't like to talk on the phone :depressed .

my 1st job was at mcdonalds.

i mean, my big bad stepdad (at the time) used to give me some change for cleaning out the garage and the flea infested shed in the back...that sucked.

McDonalds was better. I just worked sat and sunday.

11am-5pm.

I made chumpchange. Started at 4.25 an hour.

But by the time i left 1 year later? I think it was 4.41. Chaaaaching.

And to think i gave it all up to goto college....what a fool i was.

Oh yeah, and i got caught stealing a chicken nugget and the manager made me spit it out and he wrote me up. :lmao

Then one time I messed up and accidentally sent a buyer one of the blue wheelchairs instead of a black one and he left negative rep points without even emailing me. Yeah, I fucked his sister in retaliation. Hey, what's a man to do?

We've all had a "first job"...What was yours :)

Tell us about it.

I bagged groceries at Meijer. Had the job for 4 months and I hated it. I walked there everyday after school, about a 5-mile round-trip, and spent 3 hours or so bagging groceries or pushing carts. When they told me I had to forfeit the week I was going to Washington, D.C. because they screwed up the time request off, I quit. Soaking $800 and countless hours selling raffle tickets for a once-in-a-lifetime trip or keep my $5.25-an-hour job when I'm 14? I was blowing my money on magazines and action figurines, it's not like I needed the money.

I've since worked for the same company five years later, and they haven't changed all that much. That stint was only for about 3 months in the Seafood department. Wake up at 6:30 in the morning and gut fish for eight hours at $6.00 an hour. Wasn't exactly my ideal j-o-b.

So if you're living in the mid-west (Indiana, Michigan, and Illinois) don't get a job at Meijer. The union is more concerned about the 15 minute breaks than the work conditions for the employees.

If we're talking about odd jobs, I guess my first job was when I was 9 - I made $100 helping my much older cousins re-shingle a roof. My job was essentially to walk around the house picking up old shingles thrown off the roof in a Michigan August - 90-degree heat and 100% humidity. The air is as thick as a swamp.

When I was 12, I started babysitting - 10 bucks every other weekend to watch my 2-, 4-, and 5-year-old cousins, and another 25 dollars a week mowing lawns at my Uncle's house and his neighbor across the street.
