Wishful thinking, it’s more likely that they want a candidate who’s radical enough to capture the white supremacist vote but isn’t overtly racist to the point where establishment Republicans find it offensive the way they did with King..

and I probably gave establishment Republicans too much credit by saying they were personally offended by King. It’s more the stuff King said was so blatant it couldn’t be explained away as anything other than unadulterated racism, so establishment Republicans had to feign outrage in order to protect themselves.
